Goodbye Volcano High - "The Future of Gaming", The Parody Game of the Beloved Snoot Game Franchise

You'd think at least as a biproduct of Snoot's popularity that there would be more GVH specific fan content but there just isn't. There's this, one fangame in development and I think thats it.
I can explain it to you with a single image:

Also, mandatory comparison with a game that belongs to the same genre but is actually good and Wani:

I could try to be a faggot and claim that price is the issue here, but the reality is that gvh simply can't build a fanbase solid enoug, firstly becuase it takes itself too seriously, but the game is also trash with cringe writing, and despite the decent character design (for primary characters), the artstyle is not good. so the only people it attracts is retarded, mongoloid californian troons that sucks at videogames and shares at least half a chromatid with a playstation executive.
Yes, I truly believe that it take both the low IQ, extra chromosome 21, the inability to enjoy a videogame unless its cinematic, "muh queer representation" brainrot and even the inability to get past the first stage of celeste even with assist mode enabled for a person to be finally able to unironically enjoy gvh.
Ah, furfags.
There's the faggot leftists ones and the based schizopilled rightist ones.
There's also "normie" furries who don't give a shit about muh representation or HMOAF propaganda, they draw porn of the dinosaur game, and when its time to tag it, they either tag it Snoot Game because it sounds funny/its how they found out about the character they're making porn of, or tag both gvh and Snoot Game.
All with the seething of nanaki and his squad of retard, mongoloid californian troons that shares half a chromatidwith a playstation exective, sucks at videogames and constantly bitch and moan about "muh trasnphobia" and "muh doxxing".

Been hearing rumors that Nanaki groomed a dude into cutting his cock off. Any truth to that or nah?
Hm, dunno about that part. All I know is Nanaki would proudly tweet how they didn't have a job and were mooching from their mother, and the cub porn shit they liked.

I still need to know who doxxed nanaki and why.
Really it has been the only quote-unquote valid argument from him and his retard friends to use against Snoot Game and I bet things didn't go as he described them.

To be honest, I can see it going two ways: 1. Nanaki was dumb enough to somehow leave personal info in the open and thus was easy to track down, which could be possible as again for their zine they included art from the very fangame that they despised or 2. He made up the whole thing as means of trying to garner sympathy because he wasn't exactly winning the argument against Snoot and most of his "arguments" felt like grasping at straws -calling Fangs mother a loli because of her short apperance, claiming Fang shot up the school because she wasn't "fixed" aka remained nonbinary-, so he had to pull this crap as means off "Oh no look, these Snoot fans are SO mean to poor me!"

I'm aware it wasn't very popular but my point was that since GVH is essentially tied to Snoot and Wani being the inspiriation for the latter you'd think there would be some people crossing over and using GVH as a base for fangames even if its just a "lets rewrite it so its good" project.

I unironically enjoyed GVH. Its incredibly flawed and I wouldn't have been able to enjoy it without already being a fan of Snoot but I did have an alright time playing it.

Rezblaze and Nanaki both seem to be to Snoot Game what Dakari-King Mykan was to MLP: They absolutely hate both the work and the fan community, but can't stop themselves from interacting with both.

I don't know if it's a perfect comparison (I'd like to think that Snoot Game is a somewhat less autistic thing to enjoy than MLP), I just couldn't help but notice the similarities.

is actually good
No it isn't, stop lying.

I think that it comes down to the fact that it really just isn't worth it. The characters and setting are largely uninteresting in GVH, especially compared to the version of Volcaldera shown in the Snoot Game universe. The potential just isn't there for GVH in the same way that it is for other "so bad it's good" IPs.

It's far from the worst game ever but it's incredibly boring and uninspired. Very much a dead end in and of itself.

And honestly I think that's the worst thing about GVH. There's not even anything in it with enough potential to carry a conversation.

Seems like being mediocre, in a way, is worse than being so bad its good. At least the latter inspires laughter and parody. Mediocrity just inspires boredom.

I hesitate to even call Snoot Game a parody. No, it's an unofficial remake or "what if" of if GVH was good.

Snoot Game is the original game as far as I'm concerned, the writing is so much better that GVH genuinely feels like a fanfiction starring Snoot Game characters in the author's "Meteor AU" or something. And when you view it from that angle GVH isn't made better by any means but it becomes more understandable in a way.

As far as so bad it's good vs mediocrity goes, yeah, it is better to be atrociously bad than to be minimally competent. But there has to be sincerity. Things that are bad on purpose suck in all cases and aren't even fun to make fun of, but something that is bad on accident but was made with heartfelt sincerity can be fun to poke fun at or discuss because it still has some core ideas or concepts or characters that are good even if the rest of it is bad or the execution of those things was subpar. GVH has a genuinely interesting concept: Highschool kids have to contend with the knowledge that the end of the world is coming in less than 12 months. Some of the characters are okayish they just need some minor rewrites or different handling within the story. The issue is that the plot is gay and retarded and the fantastic setup is totally wasted by said same gay and retarded plot.

When you look at GVH as the fangame and Snoot as the original it becomes more understandable to me. You had a writer with big ideas who wanted to conquer heavy topics, but had no earthly idea how to actually do that and so they just wrote a high school teen gender drama like you see everywhere nowadays.

There is no harm in considering a parody superior to the original, Snoot game is effectively a parody, it outgrew its comedic slights at the original property by alot, but at its heart it makes fun of the retarded premise and its partial raison d'etre is that a bunch of people wanted to make HMOFA works of Fang because goth dino woman

In the release of the Ashfall demo me and a friend who loves Wani have been going through Snoot Game together. For him the first time and for me I've been meaning to replay it anyway.

The tonal shift between the two when put back-to-back is breakneck. It made me more excited for Ashfall because to me it seems that a shift like that is indicitive that there was a very clear creative idea that necessitated such a change in direction. Ashfall feels like it's being poised as more of a spinoff that way than a Wani 2. Which when you consider that Wani really is a standalone game outside of its legacy from Snoot Game it means these games are really each their own thing.

I gotta say, I missed getting hyped for games like this.

As much as I like to sperg about how cool it would be if Cavemanon purchased the rights to GVH, the whole copyright thing does affect their creative direction in a good way. As in, any story that takes place in Volcaldera (or any other location in that universe) has to be a standalone story. The whole thing is an anthology, which is pretty cool.

How does GVH even end? Does everyone die?
With a fade out into the sky. There is never any consequence or finality to anything. It's almost like the game was written at a world record pace because the writer got kicked out and took the story with her last second and they were under obligation from the Canadian government to finish the game--because they were. GVH is interesting only in its relation to Snoot Game. It's not even funny like Life is Strange. It's truly a nothing game.

In the end GVH is a minimally viable product pushed out the door likely to keep Sony off their backs, if it was just that I wouldn't find the game so interesting but with the mid development rewrite and (likely) post-snoot changes there is a game there we never got. There's potential that got squandered and while I don't think GVH was ever going to be good it could've been something a lot more interesting than what was delivered.
