When the bald man shouting "FUCKING PRONOUNS" became the only memorable thing about Bethesda's slopfield, the internet has officially entered the post-woke era, at which point, every piece of progressive propaganda (like this trash) has become nothing but dated and cliche, conformist in its anti-conformism.
Every champagne communist screaming at the fascists, every tranny coping and seething, every anisa's husband dressing like an house-elf and declaring their support of trans right, every corporate mouthpiece replacing legacy characters with niggers, every "profssor" redesigning hero shooters character for Sony's future money-making machine, every UK releasing pro-muslims propaganda and, in that case, every government-funded developer.
All of them are producing crap that is dated before it even releases, deserving nothing but failure and mockery.

Yeah, there's a lot of cute, cozy and "wholesome" games that I'd love to play that are just infested with TQ+ characters. It's inescapable. At least Stardew is relatively free from it, all things considered.
I've had my eye on Coral Island and Fields of Mistria, and both just scream woke, "safe" and unproblematic. But both games also really cater to me as a woman looking to play low energy games with maybe a romantic subplot that isn't explicit but warms my soul, if that makes sense.
It sucks, man. VNs like GVH are all too common if you aren't playing Japanese VNs. Hell, you'll find plenty of politically aware/woke VNs with an animu style made by western devs, games that have solid, conventionally attractive characters that at a glance don't appear to be woke.
You can't fucking escape the brainrot if a game genre even hints at potentially being comfy, cozy or "made for women" because all three words equate to "queer coded" and "by queers, for queers".

I also will NEVER understand people wanting to make ugly, obese or disabled characters in a piece of escapist media. Wheelchairs aren't cool or fun. Being stuck in one is a hindrance and surely it must be depressing to not be able to escape it, even in fiction? I'm ugly, I'm obese, I don't want to play as me in a video game when I spend the rest of my time being obese and ugly.
That gunt slider screams fetish material to me.

Can't say about the first two, but muh Katawa Shoujo was rather good for depictions of cripples.

The point is that for characters to have certain physical or mental disabilities, it has to make some type of sense in the game narrative.
It is part of the story and world, and it has to be in-story believable.

What these companies are doing is making it a point of emphasize to cater to a real-world minority.
The content is made to REPRESENT real people, not because it is part of the game world or narrative.
It is, by definition of what they are doing, 4th-wall and immersion breaking and will always destroy and suspension of disbelief.

Ironic that Wani answered this question and made Olivia's issues with being disabled a major point to her problems with society, where E2 Olivia was fucking miserable and disfuncional after she took a cripple sponsorship, iirc and made it a major triumph when at the end of E4 she stands up using her tail to dance with Inco

Katawa Shojo to be fair did have some pretty stylized animu characters, but its depiction is great because all 5 routes\girls have very realistic and varied levels of dealing with their disability, they aren't doormats, but they aren't just as good as "normal" people, but for the most part, they still overcome and thrive

I LOVED that the Katawa Shoujo anons dared to write interesting characters who just happen to be cripples. You rarely see that in "inclusive" media where a disability is the first and foremost descriptor of a character, quickly followed by pronouns.

Yeah, Wani handling Olivia's disability reminded me of Spiritfarer's nontroversy, because a single person with a disability that left her wheelchairbound complained on twitter (can't find an archive, sorry).
You're not a superhuman for having a disability, nor should you be coddled and put in a glass box. Disabled people suffer from heartache and grief about their situation, but having a disability doesn't make your situation exactly the same as someone elses. The nontroversy was because one of the characters had spent the last year of his life wheelchairbound, and he was happy that the afterlife had granted him the body of an owl humanoid - free to fly, with no wheelchair in sight.
Wow. Imagine that. Being free from your disability after you die.
And this one twitter cunt cried foul because she doesn't feel upset by being wheelchairbound, so a fictional character based on one of the devs' loved ones who actually HATED his wheelchair isn't allowed to feel the opposite.
So stupid.

There's much more to magic. Like you make a golem, but just legs. Or, if we talking modern dnd, an artificer of an armourer variety refits his armor into an exoskeleton. Or his holines ArchBishop Chud of Ilmater who thinks that millions must be cured.

Edit: Oh, there's also GURPS, in which you stack disabilities not because of some ephimerial virtue, but for cold and calculated character points at the character creation.

exactly, there's so many cool and fun ways to overcome a disability in a setting where only your imagination (and possibly your DM) sets the limitations.
Why would you WANT to be an ugly, overweight, deformed, disabled trans-species Black womxn when you could be A DRAGONBORN PILOTING A MECH.

I don't see a problem if people want to play such for whatever reason. However, dnd doesn't have a system for that. Which led to a magic wheelchair, wich basically states that you can act the same way as if you had legs. It's just lazy.

The moment a cheap cure comes out is the moment these people should stop be treated like disabled, because at this point its nomore a matter of them being disabled and more of them refusing to behave like other people. Very much equivalent to a man that refuses to open his own eyes.
