I took it that it was also a null solution to her problems that she was trying to use to regain some control over her life and her appearance to others. It's why Anon being a rock she can base herself on leads to her shedding this crafted identity and why Anon coming in and trying to control her like everyone else before has causes her to recede deeper. It has nothing to do with 'gender identity', the point is the nonbinary stuff isn't real to begin with.Being non-binary is just a symptom of the greater underlying problems surrounding Fang but to imply that someone's gender identity is something that can be warped by outside influences undermines their worldview.
I also always thought that people misinterpret Trish as being evil. She's vindictive, highly emotional, and a control freak. But from her perspective everything she is doing is to the genuine benefit of her friends. She's a good mirror to Naomi, where Trish is comparatively much more childish and immature, she doesn't recognize how controlling she is, despite her intentions being good. (give me trish romance fanfic i can fix her i can fix her i can fix her)
