Google’s Chrome extension cull hits more uBlock Origin users - USE FUCKING BRAVE

Google is disabling the original uBlock Origin ad blocker for more Chrome browser users, alongside other extensions that are no longer supported as the browser migrates to its new extension specification, Manifest V3. According to Google, the new standard aims to improve privacy and security, but also removes a feature that some ad blocking extensions relied on to work — a compromise that Mozilla is unwilling to make for its own Firefox browser.

Users online are reporting on Reddit and X that Chrome is removing outdated extensions. In Chrome, a notification window will appear underneath the extensions tab on the browser taskbar with a message encouraging users to remove the impacted add-on, saying it has been turned off and is “no longer supported.” Two buttons are available that allow users to either quickly delete or manage their extensions.

Google’s uBlock Origin phaseout on Chromium-based browsers began in October, but started to have a wider impact in recent weeks. Bleeping Computer has also reported that extensions on staffers devices are being turned off, and Verge staffers have seen similar updates on our own machines.

These changes come as Google migrates Chrome away from the now defunct Manifest V2 specification. Support is being killed not just for uBlock Origin, but for any extension that hasn’t (or is unable to) update to Manifest V3. uBlock Origin users can switch to uBlock Origin Lite, which has more limited filtering capabilities than its predecessor due to Manifest V3’s ad blocking restrictions.

Chrome won’t be the only service affected by the Manifest V3 rollout — other Chromium-based web browsers like Microsoft Edge are also losing V2 support and Brave says it can only offer “limited” support once all Manifest V2 items are removed from the Chrome Web Store. Mozilla says that Firefox will continue offering both extension specifications, however, potentially giving uBlock Origin users a new browser to relocate to.

They already attempted to take it over last year and failed miserably. Ladybird survived cancelation without giving an inch, so I'm confident they are hardened against the transgender menace.
Rumor has it the same Nazis that run Ladybird had an electrical issue in the master bedroom and had to call in a journeyman electrician to fix it. When he couldn't figure it out, they called a master electrician. The misogyny and transphobia is off the charts!!!!

So is Brave going to stop working any day now?
b-b-b-but I'm more than half way to gassing 6 million adds.

Say it ain't so.

damn, was one of the ones that works in win 7, for my old games rig, so libre wolf is it then?
Stock Firefox is gay, but a hardened Firefox is safer than Librewolf. The only non-pozzed browser that I use on desktop is Mullvad, and for Android I use Thor.

Try those out before installing the lion with crypto.

A small minority of global Internet users even use adblockers at all, and Google loses only marginal amounts of money from adblock users.
This sort of penny pinching is the death rattle of a dying company.
That's true but it's also fucked.

Everyone should use an adblocker and all browsers should come with one pre-installed or be a laughing stock.
Everyone should be taught to use one as a teen at the latest.
It represents a complete failure of modern culture that ad-blockers are not completely obvious to everyone.
It's the simplest imaginable thing to install one, takes zero effort, near instant process and improves everything about being online to a massive degree.

If something that simple and that useful and completely beneficial can't be common cultural knowledge then we are simply pathetic.

Seems like there's a bunch of butthurt fags in this thread, lmao.
My mother is still on Chrome, but recently she complained to me that one of the VOD services she uses rolled out ads in its paid plan, similar to what I believe Jewflix and JewTube Red did not too long ago, and it's one of those "pls remoov adblock saar thanks 2 ads we can proovid u kahntent for fr- err a smol fee" types. I had to invoke THE ROSSMANN with "If pirates offer you a better product for free than what you pay for, why pay?". She agreed but decided to grind n' bear it for the moment, promising to come to me once she can't take it anymore.

In the Google vs Firefox debate who really has the most leverage? On one hand Firefox needs Google because Google pays their bills. But Google needs Firefox so that we can keep pretending like they don't have a total monopoly on the web industry and keep the government from suing them. Does Firefox have enough power to tell Google to go fuck itself, or will Google's money win out and make Firefox even faker and gayer?

Shouldn't Null feature a recent article about any new developments instead this one from March? I don't know what has changed, and that's because the article doesn't mention it.
The wrong post is featured so I was confused, too. But why are there so many political articles featured recently? The only lolcow adjacent feature right now is Creator Clash.

Yeah I've noticed that if you have an adblocker installed Youtube detects it and adds fake buffering to the beginning of the video. What the retarded fucking pajeets who coded it that way don't get is that the fake buffering takes at most 8 seconds while the last time I had the misfortune of using a browser that didn't have an adblocker, I was bombarded by 3 back-to-back 15 second unskippable ads that were three times louder than the video. And that was back in 2020, I can't imagine how bad it is now.
I've noticed that Youtube recently has had an issue with showing thumbnails and sometimes just doesn't load more videos when you scroll down your home page.
