While i actually like serifs and think its pretty lame how companies simplify their logos more and more, I think that one is pretty nice. Since google has had its old logo basically forever.

I like how the "e" is crooked like in the original logo though, kind of a cool touch

Did they really put that much thought into the design of their logo? That's pretty crazy. For the most part I can hardly tell the difference between fonts, I just see serif and sans-serif, monospace and non-monospace. And I guess people who are actually knowledgeable about such things could already tell when I said "fonts" instead of "typefaces".

The new logo is okay. I dunno, it just feels "right" to look at somehow. It's geometric but not too geometric.

On an unrelated note, I really wanted to give DuckDuckGo a chance, but right now its autocomplete/search suggestions seems pretty bad compared to Google's. It doesn't give me the phrases I'm looking for nearly as much as Google's one does.

Call me old fashioned,

Okay, you're old-fashioned. Let's just get that out of the way. Now move your walker out of the way. Other people need to travel on this sidewalk.

but the serifs implied some air of legitimacy or the kind of trustworthiness of an old and well-established business.

So the vacuous attire of serifs somehow gave legitimacy to an institution like Google that has been outright evil for longer than the time that it pretended its "Don't Be Evil" motto had any meaning?

This was good why, exactly?

I'll also note serifs are virtually meaningless online, and their usefulness is related to shit printed on paper.

Even when others were changing their logos to match fads at the time, theirs remained static. Kinda crummy to see it go, now it looks like "every other logo".

Okay, I'm a huge fan of Futura. This new font isn't Futura but I like it.

Are you fucking kidding? That's the most important part of their brand. They had fucking giant meetings in huge opulent boardrooms full of people to talk about redesigning their logo. Were you just hatched out of an egg or something?

It reminds me of marketing from the late 70s. I look at it and I am reminded of walking through defunct department stores like Caldors. The rounded letters smell of caramelized mall sugar and sound like Alan Hawkshaw music. It is a safe font that feels like soft vinyl, like children's toys left out on a warm summer's day, artificial but familiar. The slight angle of the "e" give it a playful feel, but not enough to be threatening or immature, but leaves the viewer curious.

Goddamn Synesthesia...

The rainbow G looks like a bootleg version of the old apple logo, and the new search function logo looks like a stranger Chinese knockoff Ebay Logo. It doesn't look all that bad, but I'm not sure how to feel about this.

Font design is a corporate triviality, I didn't notice the redesign until this thread pointed it out.
I thought it was another google doodle or somethin'

Srsly @AnOminous what exactly makes serifs vacuous? Serifs lead the eye - they have authority, tee hee :tomgirl:.
San Serifs on the other hand try to be transparent, casual, and friendly.
Nearly every corporate tech company at this point has adopted a San-serif font design at this point -

Their ubiquity is vacuous.

Having said that I'm neither for or againt this new design, like it matters, they simply want to be fashionable.*yawn*

I prefer the old logo. This one feels depersonalized, and it feels souless. The old Google logo was classy, elegant, yet light and unformal, being a good indicator of the internet at the time.

Fucking hell, I love his muzak. He's one of the guys that makes KPM library worth the price.

Reminds me of

Or some other type of logo I'd see engraved into a neon plastic kid's toy.

Also the 'e' at the end is crooked and it is triggering me. Switching to DuckDuckGo.
It does look like a font CTW would use on The Electric Company.
