It's quite reasonable to like the first few books, because Norman's editors were still trying make sure his book would still turn out normal. Once his editors quit (as the legend goes), though, he was pretty much able to make full-on balls to the wall domination smut.

Probably, but back then I luckily didn't have access to any kind of network. So distribution was limited to a very small circle of friends who called it "cute, but rather silly and badly written". (Or something similar.) Cute/silly may be debatable terms, but I didn't want anything badly written associated with my name, so I reduced it all to entropy, in spite of some people telling me "with a lot of re-working, it could be turned into an acceptable story".
