1. Background
Carol Feldman was born December 25, 1948 (
link |
archive):
As with her father, FFG’s mother has two conflicting backgrounds. In this case, the conflicting backgrounds determine Carol’s Canadian citizenship status (i.e., naturalized or birthright).
As before, I proceed with the idea that FFG’s narratives about her life shift to position herself as an authority on a given topic.
When FFG needs to have insight into Egyptian culture, her father becomes an Egyptian Greek (otherwise,
just Greek) or (to be discussed later) when she needs to have insight into Syrian culture, she introduces the (alleged) fact that her (alleged) partner is Syrian.
Carol’s citizenship status (and therefore FFG’s claims of being an immigrant) relate to 2 issues: (1) Chantal’s perceived “anti-immigrant” statement (see "Cuba Rage"), (2) (now former friend) Shannon’s husband’s approval of anti-immigrant statements on Facebook. The conflicts themselves are not relevant here (though will be discussed in a future post), only the claim that FFG is an immigrant.
In this case, however, the narrative conflict doesn’t follow exclusively from FFG. Rather, the narrative conflict follows from statements made by FFG and by her brother Chris.
I proceed with the claim that Carol is
not a Canadian immigrant (and therefore FFG is
not a Canadian immigrant – she simply happened to be born on foreign soil). I will, however, consider both claims.
2a. Naturalized Canadian
In the first narrative, a long-standing talking point in the FFG lore: FFG’s mother is a Canadian immigrant. In a July 19 2021 tweet, for instance, FFG claims that her mother was raised in Chicago (
@True native,,
post):
As discussed in the “Harry Feldman” post, this statement RE: Chicago conflicts with statements made by FFG concerning her maternal grandfather. Attempts to reconcile FFG’s statements with the known facts concerning Harry and Adele Feldman failed.
Having said that, if we abstract away from FFG’s claims RE: descent from Montreal’s “Jewish Mafia,” a rough timeline can be established concerning Carol’s background (per this (attempted (half-assed)) narrative, anyway):
FFG’s maternal grandfather travels from NY (possibly by way of Montreal) to Chicago
FFG’s maternal grandfather marries FFG’s maternal grandmother, presumably in the late 1940s.
Carol is born (presumably) in Chicago in 1948 and raised there.
FFG’s maternal grandparents have (at least) 1 additional child, a daughter.
At some point, the Feldmans immigrate to Montreal.
Further point: My beloved, long-suffering first reader pointed out that the tweet says Carol was “raised” in Chicago, not necessarily born in Chicago. It is therefore conceivable Carol was born elsewhere (say, Montreal) and raised in Chicago before eventually settling in Montreal. Regardless, this analysis presents 2 problems: (1) Carol would have Candadian birthright citizenship, (2) FFG has claimed her mother and grandmother (and grandmother’s family) are “from” Chicago.

Little is known about Carol’s sister. FFG has referenced her as “my mother’s sister,” indicating another fraught relationship. FFG describes forced visits to the aunt’s home where the aunt would drink and listen to Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable” repeatedly. The aunt would seem to be a deeply depressed individual.

It is unknown whether the “mother’s sister” is older or younger than Carol. Likewise, it is unknown whether the aunt is alive as of Carol’s passing. If so, it is unknown why she is (as far as I know) unmentioned in relation to Carol's death, whether survivor or preceding dead.
(One troubling aspect of Carol’s illness and death is how little mention there is of family concern/involvement, apart from FFG and to a lesser extent Chris, at least in FFG’s telling. -- a contrst with Chris's narrative will be addressed in a future post).
When Carol and her sister (not to mention her parents), per this narrative, immigrated to Canada is unknown. Given that they all ended up in Canada would suggest some point prior to Carol’s becoming an adult – perhaps adolescence at the latest. Were Carol an adult upon immigrating, it’s not necessarily clear why her father, mother, and sister would also elect to immigrate to Canada rather than remain in the US.
Likewise, Carol’s remaining in Canada rather than returning to the US after her return from Greece in the mid-1980s suggests Carol is a naturalized citizen of Canada (as are the rest of the family).
Given this narrative, FFG would have likely qualified for birthright citizenship per the Citizenship Act, 1976 (RSC 1985, c. C-29), which confers Canadian citizenship on a child born outside of Canada if one of the parents is Canadian (
link). This revised previous legislation which required the Canadian parent to be the father (unless the child was born out of wedlock).
2b. Birthright Citizenship
As discussed in a previous
post, FFG’s brother has claimed their maternal grandparents were “born in Montreal” (NB: while he does not explicitly claim he’s referring to their maternal grandparents, this is the only scenario that makes sense (
link |
archive)):
In this scenario, Carol – whether herself born in Montreal/Canada or in Chicago – automatically qualifies for Canadian citizenship per the Canadian Citizenship Act, 1946, given that her father is a Canadian citizen (
link).
While this doesn’t preclude the possibility of Carol (and her sister?) having been born and raised in Chicago – perhaps the grandparents lived in Chicago for some time – it does cast doubt on FFG’s claim. This is turn raises the question of why she would manufacture such a story?
I have proposed that FFG designs her stories to fill a vacuum, to present herself as an authority, to permit her to speak on a topic, or to establish a relationship that might not otherwise exist. As discussed, when she had no obvious relationship with Nader El Shammy, she introduces the claim that her (Egyptian-born) father and her MENA ex either knew him personally or knew of him through mutual connections (to be discussed), which gave her a unique perspective (even if fraudulent) relative to other reactors.
It would therefore be worth considering FFG’s background with Froggy (i.e.,the person to whom she claimed her mother was from Chicago; see above tweet) and whether that explains FFG attempting to connect herself with the US. This will be considered in a future post.
Regardless of narrative concerning Carol’s background – though I think the evidence favors birthright citizenship – Carol, and therefore FFG, are
not Canadian immigrants.
3. In Greece
FFG claims that her mother moved to Greece and lived there for 10 years. In my previous
post, I proposed that Carol met FFG’s father George (i.e., FFG's father( while the two were in Canada, the two married (either in Canada or later in Greece), and moved to Greece for 10 years, before settling in Montreal after FFG’s birth (and likely before Chris’s birth). In this section, I consider FFG’s claims about her mother’s time in Greece.
While there, FFG claims that Carol became fluent in Greek. Carol would frequent a “bar in Athens… like a coffee shop-, bar-type place called The Plum Pudding, because it was where all the Brits were.”
I have found no evidence of this tavern/café, which is not to say it did not exist.
FFG goes on to say “they’re not Canadian, but they spoke English…. Yeah, of course my mom had like Greek friends there too, but that was her core group. Those were like her real fucking friends in Greece.”

The above claims raise some interesting issues.
Given Carol’s age, she most likely did
not become fluent in Greek.
Evidence for this comes from a stream in which FFG recounts a story concerning her birth in which Carol allegedly received a “husband stitch” from the doctor. Due to a “language barrier,” Carol decides to respond to the doctor by “lunging” at him. It’s unclear why there would be a language barrier were she fluent, particularly as the doctor was likely not speaking to her using complex jargon. This would also raise the question of how Carol had been communicating with medical staff during her pregnancy.

NB: Per the State Department Greek is categorized as a Category III language for native English speakers, which honestly surprised me (
link). This places Greek on par with Georgian and Turkish, 2 notoriously challenging languages for English speakers. Thanks to my first reader and their love of government literature!
Given Carol's “real fucking friends” being English ex-patriots, it’s unlikely she developed many deep personal relationships with the Greek population (not terribly surprising, given Greece’s view of outsiders and particularly Jews, an attitude perhaps more pointed in the 1970s). Apart from FFG’s father, of course.
Finally, it’s interesting that FFG distinguishes her mother as Canadian rather than American, further suggesting that Carol was a citizen of Canada (whether by naturalization or birth) prior to her move to Greece. I will therefore proceed with the claim that Carol’s having been raised in Chicago refers exclusively to childhood, assuming the claim has any legitimacy.
FFG remarks of her mother’s and father’s cross-global moves, “A lot of people in this world get up and go and live on the other side of the world and walk away from the family…. I’m the product of 2 people who did that.”

Purely speculative, but this statement suggests Carol and George experienced (perhaps initiated) estrangement from their families (i.e., “cleaved unto one flesh”). Carol perhaps “walked away” from her family in Canada to be with George. George perhaps “walked away” from his family in Greece to be with Carol in Canada (as previously discussed, however, George also has family in Canada).
By January-February 1984, Carol is 36 and pregnant with FFG. Anne-Marie Feldman is born November 1, 1984.
As to why neither Carol nor her children took George’s surname, I will consider 2 possibilities – (1) name change laws in Quebec, (2) name change laws in Greece – and their consequences.
Were Carol and George married in Quebec, she was not necessarily obligated to take her husband’s surname (assuming she wanted to). By 1976, she did not necessarily have the option (
link).
In Greece in 1983 (i.e., one year before FFG was born), marriage laws were radically changed with the wife required to keep her maiden name. Children born from the union could have either parent’s surname or a hyphenated blend of the two (see source below, p. 57).

Therefore, it’s not surprising FFG has her mother’s name, apart from patriarchal traditions regarding the father’s surname. If anything, it’s surprising Chris – the firstborn (and only) son – also has the mother’s surname.
Alternatively, of course, they were never married. This would of course be surprising for the time -- the proud parents of two bastards and all.
4. In Montreal
That the family elected to settle in Montreal is also an interesting point. FFG regularly describes English as her first language, with the implication being that she had minimal initial exposure to Greek or certainly (Quebecois) French.

This would make sense if Carol had moved to Quebec at a time in which French was not mandatory (pre-1974 or had been born there) and left during the transitional period without pursuing lessons. To what extent either parent is/was fluent in Quebecois French is unknown. This issue is pointed at as to what "inter-language" the two would have in their Montreal home: English, Greek, Q. French?
NB: The following points will be more fully developed in future posts.
FFG has described her mother as a housewife.
FFG has claimed that her mother was an indica enthusiast, like herself and her brother.
NB: In the preceding discussion in the clip cited below, FFG insinuates that this may be related to anxiety (unclear if she’s referring to herself alone, her brother, and/or her mother).

As noted above, Carol dies on September 16, 2023, on Rosh Hashana, approximately 5 months following her diagnosis.

In a future post, I will discuss FFG’s narrative surrounding her mother’s passing. I will also discuss the way FFG introduces her Jewish identity (i.e., in response to claims she’s antisemitic) and how she further discusses it (near exclusively in terms of food, particularly offal).
