I REALLY wanted to get a 6800xt or even a 6800 to replace my old vega 64, and like you I think I was influenced by the power of CONSOOMing. Now that supply has been out for months I'm thinking of just waiting another generation. The two most played games for me this year so far are Star WArs Battlefront, the OG from 2004:

Neither of which require a supercomputer to run.

The R7 cards are all GCN. They support DX12, there is no reason they shouldnt run either RDR2 or HZD. When they say "older AMD cards" They're referring to Evergreen, EG the HD 6000 series and lower, which are unsupported.

What card do you have? It may be time for a OS reinstall, could easily be a software issue instead of hardware.

Vulkan is only used in a handful of titles, and most of those were from iD, who is now owned by microshaft. So I wouldnt count on vulkan seeing widespread use anytime soon.
its a radeon R7 260x and it definitely won't run RDR2. The games even tells me straight up as soon as i hit the launcher that my card is too old to handle it and will have issues, it crashes before even starting even on the lowest settings.

I have an A10-7850k, and it can run RDR2 at 720p. You might need a fresh install of Windows on a SATA SSD.

E: A10-7850k has a r5 250ish iGPU.

I FINALLY found out EVGA is the only one with half a fucking brain and uses a queue system for its auto-notify so that bots and scalpers don't buy every card in fucking existence. How fucking hard is that? Now I don't have to wait for a 3080 TI and pay $1300 or deal with scalpers. All I have to do is check my email. Wow, this is complicated and so hard to do something as revolutionary as reserving a product. Jesus.

I had to fucking google to find it out too. I mean, when people are getting desperate to try and buy graphics cards from fuckin Etsy, you have fucked up. Its actually insane that this situation continues and NVIDIA doesn't do shit about it.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was only miners, but you have to contend with miners AND scalpers. These things should also be captcha'd and limited to one per household to discourage all this shit. There's no excuse for a product that is supposedly 'available' for MONTHS and it is purchasable for nowhere remotely close to its asking price. Not to mention NVIDIA themselves were faggots and sold a vast majority of their stock directly to crypto miners. How about you make a fucking crypto card onstead of this stupid shit.

They may not have the supplies to produce an entirely separate line of cards right now. What I find unbelievable is that these miners will buy a bunch of cards instead of existing SPECIALIZED hardware meant for it.

The problem is ehterium is the second most popular coin and the difference between mining platforms like ASIC and GPUs is small. Plus you can mine it with GPUS. Contrary to popular belief I don't think this is practical in the least and you need multiple cards. So you have a bunch of fucktards thinking its going to make them rich mining these shitty small alternative currencies as well.

I suppose the solution is for them to figure out how to disable mining on their cards, but I doubt they would do that considering the miners make them a lot of money.

Basically what they can do is implement queues, limit cards to 1 per person until they have stock, and have captchas on checkout or cart. Miners still need multiple GPUs to be profitable, so these implementations would stem it. But eventually all mining will require mining specific hardware. You can't mine Bitcoin with GPUs anymore, you need specific hardware.

Here is the game running on a R9 280x, which is a 7970:

And here:s a review of the game running on a RX 260

RDR2 supports GCN 1.0. The 260x is technically Bonaire, and is thus GCN 2.0, same as the 290x hawaii monsters. R* themselves list the r9 280, which is also GCN 1.0, as the minimum specs. Smells like a software issue to me. I could see the game telling you the card is below minimum specs and performance cannot be guaranteed, but to refuse to launch is something else.

I'd recommend what Allakazam said, fresh install of windows 10 on a SSD. Could be a old registry entry from a previous driver is screwing you over. AMD's drivers from the 7000/200/300 series were notoriously shit and did things like that.

I bought a G-Sync monitor so I can't really choose. But the whole scalping/botting issue is out of fucking control. Nearly every major hardware release has been plagued by it. How many times does this have to happen? I'm looking on Ebay and the prices are patently fucking illegal. I'm seeing double MSRP for these cards or they're just sitting there unsold.

The solution is to have a Department of Gaming, which can assess your need for a cutting-edge graphics card and ensure that only Tr\/e Hardcore Gamers are enabled to purchase the best of graphics hardware, with prosecutions for anyone who resells a purchased card without good reason.

Scalping for tickets is illegal in 15 states. I don't know why it is illegal for merchandise as well. There's no excuse for not having a queue for products and allowing bots for scalpers to buy every single product and then re-sell it at insane mark-ups.

Mining by GPU is already going to be decreasing. The GTX 30 series release just happened to be released near an Ether update as well as NVIDIA causing a large problem themselves by not protecting against scalpers and selling a huge chunk of the stock directly to miners (in fucking China, by the way). A paper release is only beneficial in the short term. It is not beneficial to consumers, because why the fuck are manufacturers going to follow MSRP when scalpers are selling it for double or in some cases, triple its cost? So costs for everything goes up, artificially inflating price out of manufacturing. Cards eventually just constantly get bought by scalpers who just want to inflate the price. The demand is so bad people are attempting to sell cards on Etsy and scamming. And this is nearly half a year after release. It is quite literally, more cost effective to sell your entire PC and buy a $1500 pre-built PC with a GTX 3080 in it than even buy one off a scalper. I don't care what sort of good it is, having to fully sell a perfectly good machine and buying a completely new one just for a single piece of hardware is batshit.

I haven't bought a card since the 1080, which was during probably the absolute worst mining boom hardware experienced. And nothing has changed. Nobody can go elsewhere because there's only two graphics card manufacturers. There's no competition. Also, combine that with a second boom in mining, I'm finding it insanely difficult to even find 2080s for a good price, as miners went and cleaned those out after 3080s were unavailable. I'm even seeing fucking 1080 Tis going for $700-800, which is fucking crazy. And these older cards aren't even being made anymore. The demand is insane.

Also, AMD cards are better for mining than NVIDIA, so its going to be hell for anyone trying to get one. Scalping and botting is the major issue. Which is solved by EVGA doing its auto-notify. You get in a queue, can only buy one card and its reserved for you. Meaning everyone that wants one will eventually get one. Instead of refreshing a store website every day at 4 am hoping that the three cards they scan in aren't grabbed by some chink botter who will resell them for $1500.

I mean, I appreciate that you don't like it, but why do you expect corporations to do anything about it when doing something about it would be against their interests? Now, I bet they're annoyed that they aren't capturing the full value on those scalper sales (I'm assuming that they're all publicly traded and would avoid 'scalping themselves' through a subsidiary, though I might be being optimistic there), but at least it gives them an excuse to drive RRPs up. That's all advantage for them.

I agree that EVGA's policy is 'good for gamers', but they aren't doing that because they care, they're doing it because it's great publicity.

That was true in the past, with Polaris. Navi is ass at mining(it was designed to be that way, last thing AMD or Sony needs is miners trying to hack the PS5 to mine.)

Navi is publicly traded, sure. Also what you are saying (Navi providing one product and then using scalpers to inflate the value) is actually federally illegal and people have gone to prison for doing that.

Scalpers are parasitic and provide no value to the corporation itself. Scalpers seek to exploit your consumer base for their own ends. They don't offer you anything. In fact, they seek to take advantage of you. Scalpers artificially inflate the prices of items, which drives your consumer base away. People will eventually stop buying or buy less expensive, alternative models or used models. Scalpers offer nothing to a business and are a plague on them, which is why scalping is illegal in a lot of cases.

For example:
All in all, scalpers have already made an estimated $89 million in sales, with an estimated $39 million in profits from reselling these pieces of hardware. eBay and Paypal have each taken an estimated $6.6 million and $2.4 million, respectively, from fees over these sales. Of course, this data only looks at eBay, and not any of the other scalper-ridden marketplaces and selling venues, so this is only a partial outlook at this pervasive problem.

39 million in reselling shit from manufacturers, with Ebay and Paypal taking in massive fees. All with massive negative publicity and people moving on to other devices . Sure, your stock is constantly sold out, so its great for your bottom line, but long term people are just going to stop buying your hardware or move elsewhere. The Playstation is going to take a long time to recover as people move to other consoles.

That was true in the past, with Polaris. Navi is ass at mining(it was designed to be that way, last thing AMD or Sony needs is miners trying to hack the PS5 to mine.)
If the console people had to contend with bots, scalpers AND miners, someone would get shot. Hysterically, the PS5 is in the same position right now. Scalpers are using bots and buying up all the PS5s constantly.

EDIT:
I should also say that scalpers aren't just a problem in tech, they're taking everything from graphics cards, PS5s to lysol wipes and hand sanitizer. I was also wrong. Ticket Scalping is a federal crime. So there's no fucking reason why this shit shouldn't be illegal as well. Obviously this is different if you're using bots to buy cards for mining, but scalping is way more of a problem than miners.

I had to convince my coworker that he doesn't really need to upgrade this gen... i7-9700k, 2080ti, 32 GB of DDR4... same guy who I had to talk him into installing a SSD into that rig. Wanted a 5950x and a 6900x for 1440p gaming. He doesn't do anything but vidya and anime.

I don't understand it, but ok. Personally might get a 5800x and a 6800x used when AM5 drops in a few more years, I really don't need more than a 3600 and a 2060s for what I do right now.

"But the techtubers said this is THE setup to have!"

So I just helped build my brother a budget pc. Has a 1080/60 monitor and the most demanding thing he plays is some old school Company of Heroes.

So I find him a used rx 580 for $120 and a budget 10100 for $95. Everything works great.

Now he gets bored and sends me links to gpus he sees for sale. 1070s all the way up to 5700xts, and I'm like yeah, those are good cards.....but you won't be using that lol.

It's sometimes hard explaining to ppl that depending on what they do, they literally won't see any difference between a $120 and a $400 gpu.

Is upgrading from an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 to a 5000 series CPU whenever they're in stock worth it for my RTX 3080, and if so, what's the best 5000 to go for?

Depends. If you are gaming at 60hz, no it won't make any difference. But if you are gaming at higher refresh rates, say 120 or 144, then a 5600 or 5800 will produce a notable difference in some games.
