plus the integrated ai could be useful for doing research about authors that I'm reading via audio book, before I go to bed at night
Yeah, no, that’s not what the ”integrated AI” is. Microsoft’s AI features on windows are about grabbing all your files, sending them off to Microsoft to become part of the dataset, and to justify this they’re possibly going to use it to make file search better in the future. All the copilot button does at this point is open Edge and go to bing’s copilot website.

Fuck that's wicked gay. I'll just have to use a phone app to talk to gpt or something. I'm trying to get a setup going where I can stop a book and find supplementary sources while driving.

As for the computer, the modality of it is extremely appealing but I see the arm variants for consumer goycattle have horrible compatibility issues with software, which sucks benis, but the Intel variants for corpochads are staggeringly pricy.

Integrated NPUs can be used in theory, but I can't guarantee that any particular software will actually use it and not the CPU or iGPU instead. It's a chicken and egg thing, needs research. You just don't need to worry about NPUs right now, look for useful software instead, and find out what the requirements are if it's actually running locally.

AMD is an actual contender now, and you probably don't need "business" hardware or whatever. You can ignore ARM Snapdragon X Eshit, but ARM might be on the table within a couple years if MediaTek, Nvidia, AMD, and others launch their own Windows on Arm hardware following Qualcomm's exclusivity agreement expiring.

So you want an x86 2-in-1, and maybe 14" max, or does it need to be smaller?

Don’t get an ARM windows laptop. The performance is terrible and the battery life no better than an Intel. They’re Qualcomm chips, the same garbage used in android phones. For laptops you really should be looking at MacBooks, with windows laptops as an absolute worst case fallback solution if you have some software that absolutely cannot run in macOS or a virtual machine like Parallels.

Thereabouts yes. The faster I can deploy and undeploy it, the better. 14 is good, so long as I can drop it safely in my go bag and run when I need to

For example, here's a recent 14" 2-in-1 deal, with a decent Alder Lake chip. The RAM is low at 8 GB but apparently expandable to 64 GB. Is/was $400 for Sam's Club members.

That's the kind of price I would aim for if you're not sure. If it breaks, or you want to retire it in a couple years, it's no big deal. 1235U/1335U can play some older games and emulate a bunch of stuff.

Weirdly, there are a bunch of ~16" 2-in-1s. I don't see much in the 11-13.3" range.

I did post a ~$500 Lunar Lake deal earlier in the thread, but it was a laptop with no touch.

Hey boys, I picked up a ryzen 9 9950x, 64gb ram, a ton of storage (nvme, ssd, and 2 spinning disks), to build out my home server/AI lab.

Bros, I did not know the GPU situation. I thought I did, but I did not. I'm going to set up kube and plex, immich, and I'm going to get deep into a bit of networking, and all that good stuff until I decide which GPU to buy.

I'll probably pull the trigger on a renewed 3090 from Amazon, but I wanted to throw it by some knowledgeable guys first. It's really for learning. I run the gamut at work from app dev to deployment, but it's a) proprietary software (even the custom solutions where I get to be creative are limited to that) and b) not as deep as I would like. So this is all for learning and fun and to eventually get the Coolsixtyniner crew totally off Google.

What do you think? Pull the trigger on a renewed 3090? Go to microcenter every Saturday in the morning and see if get lucky for a 1k over msrp 5090?
You can get your money back from the 3090 by selling it if you can get a 5090. I recommend getting the 3090 now.

Looks like a decent direction to move to. I'll probably try to find something a little stronger in the specs, the more it's like a laptop, the more I just want to go full computer. Was hoping to find another thing with a detachable keyboard but that doesn't seem to be doable below a bazillion dollarsand boatloads of dubious features. Really don't want to go back to an android tablet

EDIT: Wait the Asus zog flow might be just the thing

Hey, it also adds some special effects to Teams chats!

A few years ago, Morgan Stanley (IIRC) analysts valued Tesla's aircraft division at $100b or something. They just decided on their own that it made all the business sense in the world for Tesla to start making airplanes in the next 5 years, and that Tesla would quickly become a top aircraft manufacturer.

Im looking at buying a surface pro business tablet/laptop for a compact pc/tablety thing on the road. I drive a truck most days but go home weekly, and even though theyre fuck huge expensive, I could really use the ultra compact design with the pc x86 compatability. Now I intend to do some gaming, but I'm mostly expecting to play old/ niche shit/ emulators and it looks like the intel i5 business model might be able to pull that off, plus the integrated ai could be useful for doing research about authors that I'm reading via audio book, before I go to bed at night. I dont really use any normgroid or professional software, seeing as i'm paid to sit on my ass and piss in a jug all week, so it seems a bit spensive, but the snappy tablety thingy combined with pc functionality can save lots of the logistics and time of dealing with a laptop in an enclosed cabin. It also opens the door for me to do less nigga tech shit in my downtime on the road. now is this kind of computer a ridiculous boondoggle for me, and i should stick to a laptop, or is it neato and potentially more enriching to my vanishingly sparse downtime to have such a thing on hand? This is a stupid question.
If you're willing to go used you can get a ThinkPad X1 Yoga gen 6 or higher (11th gen or higher Intel CPU) for relatively cheap on eBay, as companies buy them in bulk and replace them every five years even if they're still on very good condition. I got one I use as a backup computer and it runs really well and uses a standard type-c port to charge so I can use its charger as a rapid charger for my phone. ThinkPad have really good keyboards (even the Yoga). It's a 2-in-1 where it opens 360 degrees into tablet mode which I feel is better then a Surface where you have to fiddle with a stand and a floppy keyboard if you ever what tintype anything, and it has a stylus bay that keeps the stylus hidden and protected when not in use.

Got the 2023 zogflow with 16gb ram and the 4050. A bit pricy but I wanna try this type out and when they're common, try the newshit for less than my soul costs. At 1700 bucks did I do good?

I don't see any active deals for it, but this is from February:
(Open Box - Good, Pickup Only) ASUS - ROG Flow X13 13.4” QHD Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS with 32GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 $1105.99

The only ROG Flow 13" I see at Best Buy right now is the Strix Halo flagship at $2400.

I don't think a 4050 at that price is good. ZOG got to you. I am a cheapskate that likes to use $100 computers though, and at some point you have to pull the trigger and enjoy it. Plus tariffs could fuck up the prices even more for all we know.

thats ok, im just gonna use it to play gamecube and combat mission black sea, and It's a few hundred more than I had in mind, but Im really excited to try this form out, and this thread really save me from a 2200 dollar cope machine that I thought was alone in its class, and would have probably shidded and farded if I tried anything fun with it

You could have spent $600 and played those.

As much as I despise Apple and what they do, buying an M4 Macbook Pro would've been a way better decision.

What an amazing use of nearly $2,000
