Which begs the question: which brand is now the premier go-to for geforce cards and power supplies? I wanna get a 4090 and a 1000+ watt psu but I don't wanna buy dogshit from someone like gigabyte.

don't know about now, but seasonic was the among the best pre-corona. you can check if they still do 10 year warranty, which is usually a good sign they trust their product. can't remember the price, but I don't remember anything egregious unless you wanted to go all out with certificates and efficiency. also quiet (important for me).

IME, midrange hardware gives you a good, solid four or five years now, and can be stretched quite a bit longer than that if you're willing to fiddle with settings to keep it going. The machine I replaced had an i7-7700 and a 5700XT, and frankly, it was fine. I just thought the NUC was cool, so I bought it. What I have now is an i9-12900 with a 6700 XT (the 5700 didn't fit). That smaller model pictured has an A770M 16 GB.

I agree that cpus and gpus can be used longer, it's just I couldn't upgrade my ram without having to basically buy more than I need because the board has only 2 slots instead of four. Also the lack of usb ports was an issue and it sucked not being able to add in a usb3 card. Similar situation with being limited to 4 sata ports (2 of them were only SATA2).

One thing I like about the NUC line is the gaming-oriented ones have plenty of ports. 6x USB 3.2, 2x Thunderbolt 4. There's also space for 3 M.2 NVMe drives, although if 4 drive bays wasn't enough for you, yeah...

If you download the drivers directly from Nvidia's site rather than through GeForce Experience, you can update without an account.

Just be wary of some companies (Western Digital *cough*) which downgrade to SMR without changing the name or branding.

AMD will let their software package automatically download and prompt you to install updates without you having to regularly check their website to download updates, sounds like Nvidia's making it a hassle again.

Yeah, I ended up doing the website way, back when I was on a red card I would routinely disable "synapse" which was their streaming bullshit panel. I don't stream.

New driver didn't fix my issue either.

your other option is looking at upscalers, I'm fine with FSR since for me fps > fidelity (which is hardly noticeable anyway), but it depends if the game supports it. no idea about DLSS and not willing to pay for nvidia's proprietary shit to sell their castrated tensor cards when FSR is open and works on both.

FSR has been a real help with my GTX 970, even if it's still not enough sometimes.

I use a 3800x with a 6700xt and I can run ultra on everything at 1440p with fsr/fsr2 - it doesn’t quite get me to ultra 4k 60fps on newer games, I should have gotten a 6800xt, that extra 4gb of memory really makes a difference. If you can afford it, grab a 6900/6950 and you should be fine

I found a pajeet youtube video that fixed my problem. Specifically, some videos and websites would crash the display driver, and when it recovered it was washed out and shitty.

My temporary fix was the old ctrl shift windows B graphic driver reset, but I was sick of that shit.

I had to use the Nvidia control panel to adjust desktop color settings to "desktop app" and dynamic range to "full"

None of that would make any sense to a layperson.

I remember when I was a teenager I found shit like that exciting. As an adult, it's just annoying.

My first Nvidia card was a geforce2go.

I legit am not sure why you would buy an NVIDIA card for gaming unless you got a 4090. Rtx just isn’t there on the lower model cards yet. Maybe in a couple more generations
