lol I dodged the bullet with the Aorus Elite AX.

Mobo manufacturers needs to face the wall.
Gigabyte were the ones to get exploited this time, but all vendors have this bullshit “install our spywaredrivers automatically” thing. They all snuck the same “let’s actually verify it’s our own executable first” fix into their next patch, it’s just Gigabyte were the only ones who had to admit it.

I’m using the B650I Aorus Ultra right now, top notch ITX board with all PCIe lanes the processor provides in use (as M.2 slots, but still), and I don’t think it was that very expensive. Worth looking into for you maybe?

Anyone have an RTX 3060? How are they holding up? Wife is dipping her toes into gaming, so I built a PC out of older parts, and all it's missing is a gpu. There's an rtx 3060 12gb on newegg for $300 that seems pretty decent.

What games does she want to play?
My main experience is with Counter Strike 2 at 1080p, where the 3060 will often drop below 144 frames but a Radeon RX 7600 XT (same price point) handled it just fine.
However, I've only ever used those cards and that game under Linux where nvidia drivers don't support things like DLSS and allegedly have a bigger overhead than on Windows.

Right now, she's playing hogwarts legacy, but she's not chasing ultra graphics, real high framerates, or 4k. She just wants games to run. I was also seeing 4060s around the same price point, but they have 8gb of ram instead of 12.

The 4060 is a significantly more powerful card, and IME any game that can actually make meaningful use of more than 8 GB of VRAM needs a significantly more powerful card than a 3060. On that note, my laptop has a 3050 Ti Laptop, and I like it. Zero trouble with 99% of games hitting 60 fps at 1080p (Helldivers 2 was kind of challenging, but I think that's because it only has 4 GB of VRAM). A proper desktop 3060 is a lot more powerful.

oh ive had one for a bit. does alright for 90% of the games im playing, though some of those are older titles, i do play the newer games too and they do rather well

That B650I isn't available on my place. The only closest is an MSI MPG Edge Wifi and a Gigabyte AX Ultra. Fuck it. I'm going back to the Asrock HDV/M.2.

What I would like to see is mITX board with more than 2 M.2 ports, for lots of storage, or off-label uses. Right now all I can do is split X16 into x8x4x4 for example. I know that bigger boards exist, but that would be cool.
B650I Aorus Ultra. Three M.2s is the feature I bought it for.

No idea if this is the right forum to ask this, but I'm selling my old PC (built in 2017 lmao) and it has an i5-8400 and a GTX 1060 (6gb). I haven't been in the loop on this shit for years now so I genuinely have no idea what they're worth and what I should sell it for. The PC itself works great and I'll really miss it for all the memories

For future reference, just search for your computer on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4432023.m570.l1313&_nkw=i5-8400+1060&_sacat=0 The answer is, "about $300."

Realistically speaking, where will we go with the 5000 series? Everything since the 2000's feels like dimishing returns.
Only thing I can think why I'd want to upgrade my GPU is to run more local AI models and maybe Helldivers, since that's the only game I struggle to run. Everything else is just mediocre and most games I play are older than 5 years anyways.

So I got Cyberpunk. It's running my i9 12900k at 90% a lot of the time, with the 4070 super roughly at 70. Ram is interesting, out of the 64gb of DDR4 3200, it's usually only dipping into 12 ish gb. It's also on a m.2, a Samsung 990 2tb. Output is 1080p at 60fps on a 23 inch screen. Settings are stock, which I'm guessing are overkill for my screen.

Thing is it runs REALLY well. It's just hogging a lot of resources. I don't dare open youtube on the second monitor lol. Any thoughts anyone? Is it the settings running on autistic turbo, or is it just that heavy?

I'm sorry. I hope you've either cracked it or got it heavily discounted.

It's not really running well then, as optimization wasn't something they did on this game. I still recommend this Big Boss' video about Cyberpunk.

The game is a mess, that's the gist of it. Try to see if you can put lower textures or disabling anti-aliasing, for some reason, it did fixed stuff on my end, mileage may vary.

Steam sale, half off for both the base game and expansion. For the fun I've had so far, it's fair.

I watched that once but I'll check it again. You're confirming what I guessed, the settings are in turbo mode, my rig is just beefy enough to handle it (barely).

Thing is I like how it looks on my old Dell 23 inch monitor. It's not nice where it has Oled and all that fancy shit. I'll try, but I also don't want it to go full potato on a monitor that already is getting pushed.

DLSS + FG on?

DLSS + FG on?
No clue lol, but probably. I didn't touch the settings. I plugged it in and it ran and ran WELL, just hot. It doesn't stay at CPU 90% all the time, but a concerning amount. I'm going to test it more after work, see what Task Manager says, but I probably am going to tweak the settings at the end so it isn't a firework show.

As you mentioned, turning off some of the fancier graphics settings will probably fix a lot of my issues.
Cyberpunk 2077 was the first and last game release I felt hyped for.
I'm actually having a lot of fun lol, but that's after 4 years of patches

Advanced graphics settings will impact your GPU. DLSS + FG will significantly reduce their impact by reducing the total number of pixels directly rasterized. My guess is a lot of high CPU usage comes from decompressing assets as you roam around the game world.
