They'll say things like "my dumbass thought you said [something]". What makes it especially annoying is how obviously wrong it is when you sound it out. Dumbass and dumb ass are said differently. The slight pause is a hint, you see.

I'm guessing some retarded zoomer influencer said it and made it a thing that people parrot unthinkingly.

I don't think it's due to any sort of influencer, but rather just the general decline in English proficiency by native speakers (as well as the massive influx of ESL speakers all over the internet.) I notice a lot conjoined words get posted a lot when they should be separate. Examples include:

• as well becoming "aswell"
• a lot becoming "alot" (this is probably the most common one)
• using "apart" in the context of belonging instead of being its own thing
• "bestfriend" suddenly becoming its own word like the way you'd talk about your girlfriend or boyfriend

I see all of these used way too often for me to chalk it up to being the occasional typo or brain fart. It's like how so many people don't seem to understand that "women" is plural or that you're not "chocking" on your food.

People use "password" and "passcode" interchangeably. That gets confusing when I try to troubleshoot. I wouldn't know if they have problems with the phone passcode or account password until I see what they're talking about.

A passcode involves numbers, a password has letters, numbers, symbols.

I LOVE homophones. They're often misspelled because people use the wrong word. Especially they're/their/there; your/you're. Texting has ruined the English language.

I blame schools. They beat it into your head that writing assignments and lab reports need to reach a certain amount of words or pages. Hate it with a passion, I remember having to regurgitate what was already said multiple times, but reworded again and again until they were satisfied. It was annoying and mind numbing.

I hate that with a passion. Isn't the goal of writing to write LESS to make your point?

Might be repeating myself but this is a big peeve of mine: using breath/bath for breathe and bathe. It's sad but I see it everywhere and I feel like it's a tell for people who don't often read books. I assume spell check saves a lot of people from telling on their own lack of literacy.

I'm also assuming the uptick in incorrect pluralization such as "Infos" and "proofs" is from an increased number of brown people online.

Spelling errors caused by carelessness or laziness are understandable since we're just in a gossip forum and not academia, but these make it seem like the posters don't read and it seriously hurts their credibility if it's obvious they don't read often enough to spell basic words.

Another language peeve: "In and of itself".
It's confusing for people who aren't aware that it's supposed to be a figure of speech because it's not clearly defined what "in itself" and "of itself" are supposed to mean and how they're different enough to justify being placed together as if they're different things. Just say "alone", "by itself", or "intrinsically".

This is pronunciation rather than grammar, but it annoys me when people stress the "in" in insurance instead of the "sur".

- dk if this is a legit trend or specific to my household, but pronouncing "asparagus" as "aspaRAgus" instead of "asPAragus"
- mistaking "bought" and "brought" (something I was guilty of in kindergarten when it came to school lunches)
- pronouncing "accept" and its variants as "assept" instead of "aksept" (and the people who do that often fail to carry it over to "accelerate" and "accent")
- algospeak (which makes me wanna "unalive" myself)
- any "hot words" (especially the US politics-related ones and "gegagedigedagedago")
