The DA has a lot of fucking concerns. Barb. Probably lack of a strong case.
But his biggest concern is probably Chris and the nature of the case.
There aren’t a lot of good solutions, and Chris isn’t some dangerous criminal he got off the streets. If he goes too hard on him, he’ll get flack for wasting ressources on prosecuting a gross slow in the mind.
If he goes too soft, he risks getting shat on for head patting a sexual deviant.
Either way it’s hardly something he wants brought up in the future, and combined with the gross details of the case, he’d probably just like it to go away as quietly as possible.
Tbh I don't think it's that simple
If Chris genuinely knew that plea deal means he is out tomorrow and trial means he will get 20 years. He would accept the plea. He just truly thinks this will all get sorted out if he just sticks to his guns

You know I'm starting to think that Chris knows he's screwed.

I think it may depend on the deal, if it’s something serious like time served but admitting the crime and being put on a sex register for life he may risk a longer jail term since being put on the sex register would basically prevent him from attending many of his favourite pastimes since nobody wants a registered sex offender around their kids.
