Been seeing a lot of the "I play GTA for the satire, unlike the heckin' chuds who have no media literacy" bunch who are either saying "I hope the new GTA includes things that make my enemies online ANGRY " or boo hooing about how they think there will be hurtful trans jokes in GTA6. Or alternately crying about the juvenile humor of the previous entries and then going on about how the whole point of GTA 3-6 is to showcase and satirize American culture, only a moron would "play games" to "have fun".

When I got Vice City, the first thing I did was run down the street and steal a car and get killed. I wasn't thoughtfully pondering, "Ah yes Pastor Richards is quite the biting critique of televangelists". It's there but it's not the main point of those games.

I could tell it was going to be bad when 1. You play as a fucking stupid spic woman and 2. The trailer is extremely bland and has no actual jokes in it. GTA V's first trailer had a tranny joke (Post-Op being the UPS parody). Where was the humor in the new trailer? It was 80% Instagram reels with text that looked like something a narc says. Anybody else kinda wish video games would stop improving upon graphics? Probably me just being an old fart, but if they put half as much effort into the story as they do the graphics, maybe most games wouldn't be piles of steaming shit. Eh, plus I actually find older graphics charming...

graphics is the easy part because computing power keeps increasing anyways. There's not much to it when it comes to grabbing a 3d model and subdividing it more for extra resolution, but creating unique art directions and making sure everything follows consistent style guidelines is much much harder. Focusing on pure realism is much easier, every single asset that needs stylization is extra work and know how that would just make a bloated game extra unfeasible, realism just averages everything for everyone.

We do the same thing people do when they get called out for their bullshit: make excuses to try and downplay our mistake.

To me it's precisely why games and other media are able to get worse: because the exact die-hard fans who claim to be supporting a product are actually the very idiots enabling these products to continue to get worse by playing nonstop defense for them, never stopping to ask themselves why they care so much about defending the "honor" of a fucking product.

"Too early to call," to be fair, but there's also reason to be critical of those who are defending it a bit too hard as well. "Too early to call" works both ways: fucking nobody has any reason to claim this game will be good.

Honestly the realism of IV was a huge draw to me, it felt like the logical next step at the time and the only thing I remember being let down by was the limited character improvement stuff, which they sort of brought back with the stats.

The physics from RAGE makes IV unintentionally funny. Jump out of a car in high speed and watch your character just frail around with momentum. I never expected IV to be like 3D era games with arcade first gameplay, so I treated it as such. Damn those flying pigeons and phone calls.

Personally I can't imagine being some bootlicking faggot for a brand or corporation. If it fails it just fails. I used to like stuff that I dropped like a brick once it started sucking and I feel zero shame for it or a need to rationalize it. I have a friend who gets fucked in the ass by Apple literally every time yet he still bugs out and buys their stuff. I can usually put myself in the shoes of others decently well, but for the life of me I can't fathom the concept of blind, idiotic faith, and much less in something as rigorous as current year companies.

Don't know if it was mentioned, but there's a guy I follow on youtube and on one of his recent streams he mentioned something I didn't knew, about how on earlier versions of gta 5 there were troon hookers and how basically everyone comitted TTD on them and then later, since people started complaining about troonphobia, they took them out of the game. I wonder if they're gonna add like a moral system or something similar to punish players who eventually will commit TND. The biggest downside to games having this obsession with "ultra realistic graphics" - nothing stands out anymore among most AAA slop, because all of it is in the exact same style. Shit, it's been years, and I can still remember parts of Okami, solely off of it having a unique art style.

It feels like we've reached the point of diminishing returns on graphics though - there doesn't seem to be as much room for "improvement", especially with how compression and file optimization seem to be dead arts. Everything being ultra realistic probably doesn't help how fucking bloated modern Game Sizes are...

No gamer you WILL buy the new NVIDIA VTX 5080 Founders Edition OC 36 GB VRAM coming out in the next year or two and you WILL have multiple 2+ TB SSDs and you WILL have at least 96 GB of DDR6 RAM in your system JUST for 1080p 60 FPS in the newest titles and it will only cost you as much as it would to mortgage a house.
