I see even this place has its fair share of "shut up and eat the slop", "ignore the propaganda" and "people noticing is the WORST THING EVER!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" types too. We even have unironic balling over how much worse talking about woke shit is than the woke shit itself or its defenders. I mean this is too spot on to even be a good parody! It's like dealing with the shills and ideos on GameFAQs or the comment section at lolygon! :story:

that's a tough ask in a thread about a company that has been making the same game for 25 years

And doing a worse and worse job of it each time.

Making fun of American culture was easier in Bush era America, they're not going to make fun of stuff like what the "American culture worships the Negro" copypasta talks about. They're not going to satirize LGBT activists. " They're not going to satirize fat women.

Sadly this is true. Old RS maybe, but not this new one.

As the game gets closer to release there will probably be arguments online about that, considering what happened on Twitter earlier in November.

A lot of stuff will realistically probably be buried in the hype campaign for the Grand Theft Auto game of the 2020s though.

This is one of the things AI should help with in the future. I hope devs take advantage one day. This and the big empty world problem in open world games.

What did people expect. It was clear that the same type of people taking over the industry and media, whining about "sexism" and other nonsense, were also "uncomfortable" with violence in general. It's only a matter of time before a true push begins.

I'm literally going to be an old ass man before they ever make the airports functional so you can visit multiple cities. Only real blackpill

Feels on that. We can only hope AI helps speed up that level of content.

Can't wait for a blacks retextured to be white mod to be released that will get fifteen gorillion articles condemning anti-LGBTQBIPOC+ and white supremacy and praising how black woman twerking on car is ackually good

LOL Assuming any modern mod site would ever allow it. Mod sites are woke and have been policing anything media and ReeeEra screeches about for a while now.

It's such wasted potential that they are STILL recycling Liberty, Vice, Los Santos, Liberty, Los Santos, Vice, over and over after all these years. The GTA world feels very small and creatively stale at this point, and some interesting new cities and locations could have injected some life and interest back into the series. Why not somewhere based on like, Dublin? Shanghai? Mexico City? There are so many cool cities with their own criminal underworld and subcultures. Why does Rockstar keep going back to the same well? Vice City was almost entirely a homage to the show Miami Vice and was heavily defined by it's 80s setting, I don't really see the appeal of 2020s Vice City with phone videos of twerking and le funny Florida Man (a meme current on reddit 10-15 years ago). Based on the trailer alone it seems soulless and uninteresting to me, granted it's just a trailer but its purpose is to get me excited and I'm nodding off.

Another city could be nice, but the real issue is the era's and style of games they are trying to turn the games into.
The bold part is the biggest issue for me.

>complaining about black people in GTA
How in the FUCK can you out yourself as a tourist for one of the most normie games of all time?

Because they made sense there! I mean one of your biggest examples was a game based off of the 90s LA gang wars for fuck sake! And in the other cases it wasn't in unrealistic or ridiculous ways. Most importantly though everyone knows what they are fucking doing with this and it has nothing to do with being more realistic!

Yeah she's noticeably uglier since the leak.

Also got no tits, so lol at everyone going "OMG HOT LATINA" like she's fucking Selma Hayek or some shit.

This is just where I'm at. Modern America has so much to satirize and yet you won't see any of it here because Cockstar said they won't be 'punching down'.

Like Joe Biden legit sounds like the president you'd hear about in GTA IV's radio, sniffing girls and being crooked as all fuck while Hunter is strung out on coke.

Is that a shop job? She looks like a troon in that second pic!

It's not 'knee jerk' because you weren't paying attention. Rockstar said in an article that they won't be doing satire like before, that they won't be 'punching down' on 'marginalized communities'. If you read the thread since the trailer they've also said they cancelled a Cops vs Robbers mode because of George Floyd.

Kneejerk is defending it just because.

Half the people angry at nogs being nogs. It's not the nogs themselves, it's the attitude portrayed.

None of the other trailers had this issue though. And given articles and interviews stating R* is done with their liberal approach to games and instead adopting more progressive stances and practices with their staff and games, why are you surprised that people are looking at this and being gloomy at it given the gaming industry's track record with being progressive and shit games?

See above. A company committing to kowtowing to tumblr politics never ended up improving their products. I guarantee you no one but the most committed racists would find as much negativity if this game were still lead by the same guys who made GTA 2 - V.

Take that shit to the tourists; R* keeps saying they're a progressive company now with modern sensibilities, have made many diversity hires, and purged the toxic "frat boy" culture out of the company. FFS they bragged about it on Forbes and sites like Kotaku did victory laps around it. Look at GTA Online from 2018 onwards. If you genuinely believe there's no reason for people to be alarmed or cautious, you're being incredibly naive.

/

For anyone who doesn't believe just look up a few quotes for a whole list of article pics.

All I want is a mandatory 1:1 version of the helicopter construction mission from Vice in 6. I want the young to experience my pain.

lol hard agree!

I don’t get it why are people actually surprised that a GTA game has black people in it?

Also, I STG this account is some sort of social experiment.

Because political tourist schizofags from either /pol/, /int/ or even /v/ claim they've played San Andreas or Vice City but they have not, and even if they did, forgot that there were black people.

*bawling

And I wouldn't say it's worse, but culture war faggots have become insufferable and, dare I say it, more annoying since they're invading my spaces more than woke faggots anymore, and they offer no meaningful discussion and simply just flail their arms around bawling about how things were back in the day (when it's obvious as fuck they weren't around back in the day) and that they'll totally never spend a dime on this shit (even though they always seem to be the first ones who are giving the most seething analysis on every new piece of Disney or AAA slop that hits the market)

I can see why Null gets so fucking pissed off these days. The second this thread got featured it got completely shitted up by people who have never said anything in the GTA thread who felt an insatiable need to get their "there's niggers in them there hills!" comment in. Not even a joke or anything, just "I'm mad cause niggers in GTA"

The least they could do be is funny.

He's definitely white:

>have her ankle tagged so you’re limited in where and how you are able to use her

I will remain optimistic that they can do some interesting story telling with this couple. I’m hoping it becomes a matter of he’s doing it for her and wants them both out of the game while she’s got this idea of a big score. In addition seeing a story through a just recently paroled felon who has to try and juggle the difficulties of navigating the outside sounds way more interesting that just another “thug on the streets.”

Part of the reason that people like CJ is because it’s a story you don’t live. I’d be willing to bet the majority of GTA players will never attempt to boost a car in real life. Niko benefitted the same way: the average player isn’t going to identify with that idea of coming to America for a fresh start just to see you aren’t going to get your American dream. It’s why from my understanding people preferred Michael to Trevor or Franklin: Trevor didn’t live up to the insanity hype since every other character could be just as weird as him, and Franklin felt like a bit of a retread with CJ. I imagine most people at KF have not had to deal with the paper trail that follows someone post incarceration and how it essentially makes your punishment for your crime permanent in a lot of ways. If they can make the dynamic between the two new characters engaging enough then I can see it being good.

This thread has turned into shit.
The curse of whenever a thread gets featured.

Whoever screamed at Jersh to feature this thread, I remember someone did it - fuck yourself.
Anybody else kinda wish video games would stop improving upon graphics? Probably me just being an old fart, but if they put half as much effort into the story as they do the graphics, maybe most games wouldn't be piles of steaming shit. Eh, plus I actually find older graphics charming...
The biggest downside to games having this obsession with "ultra realistic graphics" - nothing stands out anymore among most AAA slop, because all of it is in the exact same style. Shit, it's been years, and I can still remember parts of Okami, solely off of it having a unique art style.

It feels like we've reached the point of diminishing returns on graphics though - there doesn't seem to be as much room for "improvement", especially with how compression and file optimization seem to be dead arts. Everything being ultra realistic probably doesn't help how fucking bloated modern Game Sizes are...

I don't know if the studio that makes GTA has ever had power autists of RDR extent working there long term but if they did we'd have that and more. GTA IV I think felt more alive than V, it felt like the world was actually moving and you were just a piece in it, which was especially impressive given the hardware limitations of the time. You could be driving along the bridge and spot cops searching cars, or have actual police encounters happening, etc. The NPC cops had better AI and instead of just gunning at randoms they used cover and avoided shooting if possible. Street vendors, pedestrians, etc all seemed to just be going about their days in a way that V tried to mimic and it just came off as fake and as though they're all performing for you.
Imagine a world like that set in Vice City with the attention to detail that the RDR spergs had and the story writing of the classic games, it would be the actual best game of the decade and not just "well at least it's not another remake"

In all honesty, even though IV is better in terms of simulation, I enjoy V much more.

For starters, the gameplay is arcadey and snappy, the characters are goofy and jell way better with the wacky gameplay than Nico.

Also, I feel Bellic was more suited for a game more introspective in the vein of Max Payne 3.

Finally, RDR 2 is a masterpiece in terms of simulation, but the game can turn into a slog at times, dragging everything down with the weight of "realism".

And that's fine for RDR, but I like my GTA's to be set practically in Toon Town.

P.S.: GTA stories are supposed to be about antisocial psychopaths consistently taking bad choices. And spics and niggers are the epitome of that.

There's a grinding of gears and incongruity between the tragic story of Niko Bellic, a Serbian war veteran who committed horrific and violent acts trying to escape his past life and start a new life in America, getting sucked back into a world of violence and revenge and its commentary on the failures of the American dream in post-9/11 New York and the game still trying to retain its "GTA" identity, where the radio ads and presenters is over the top and satirical and all the side characters who give you quests are colourful and eccentric.
Niko expresses that he "deals in death because it's all that is open to him." Funnily enough, if you cause havoc as Niko when you work for ULP, he'll berate you through a couple phone calls. The suspension of disbelief with that is that they make the world feel alive even AFTER you stop playing. Serious stories CAN have funny moments; that's up to pacing, writing and characterization.

That said, I have felt that way with how serious GTA IV is portrayed compared to previous entries to causing reckless abandon. Not in a sense that it makes me uncomfortable, but just asking what is the point. In GTA V's case, it's mainly because of how unfair the cop AI can be.

To each their own, everyone has their own thing. Honestly the realism of IV was a huge draw to me, it felt like the logical next step at the time and the only thing I remember being let down by was the limited character improvement stuff, which they sort of brought back with the stats. I guess they were just selling it with the story that since Niko was a hardened war vet from europooria he would be in decent shape. But I loved the physics so much more than the arcade feel of V, the story felt more mature and impactful, it felt like the culmination of a series I'd been playing since childhood and now felt was grown up. What I really did love about V was they made effectively the best in game sandbox for arcadey type play yet but that is more of a "play when I feel like it" perk vs a note on the games depth.

As for RDR2 I can't help but feel autism was involved. You don't get a team that cares so much about realism they put like 20 types of bird sounds, temperature affected horse balls, accurate decay patterns etc unless there is weaponized autism afoot. I see what you mean though, a GTA with a full level of RDR realism would probably involve having to fill gas tanks up or something lol

Those three in combination are a massive red flag screaming that the woke writing crowd might've taken over the studio. They're still just red flags, so anyone freaking out saying "it's too early to judge," fine that's fair, but I also fully understand why people are incredibly skeptical.

There's more red flags in this trailer than there are fat asses, and that's a lot.

I've been in multiple fandoms saying "it's too early to tell, give them a chance". It is now Current Year, and all the benefit of the doubt has run out, in every media or hobby. Charging at red flags shouldn't be criticized, it should be normalized. Finding a good product on the other end is now a surprise, instead of the rational expectation of cooler heads.
