With the next consoles rumoured to be 2026/2027, it means a current gen, PC and next gen release in one year/two financial years instead of three.
I forgot about the next console generation. They did it for GTA V for PS5/Xbox Series S|X. I'm not counting the PS4/XONE ports since GTA V released at the end at the PS3/360 lifecycle. That was smart from a consumer and business perspective.

It's how they milk it. Launch on one gen (ps360) then release on PC a year later (double dippers) then releasing on next gen (triple dippers) launch GOTY edition (Consoles and pc quadruple dippers) then release on next next gen (stop buying the game sheep)

I said a while back that a gauge of the healthyness of the sales will be how quick it comes to PC. it's usually an 18 month gap. If it drops within a year, things aren't great, if they drop it within 6 months, things are disastrous.

I think we will see the PC port in March 2027 to get the sales within the same financial year, with a next gen version for the launch of PS6/Xbox5 Christmas 2027

Seriously, if you're at least mildly interested in GTA or any Red Dead, I highly recommend listening to the Dan Houser interview that @Problematic User Forever posted. Dan Houser was the creative genius of GTA that glued all those elements that you like (freedom, storytelling, satire, setting) into that perfect entertainment product.

You can tell that with each project Dan Houser was/is involved with, he wanted to make something fun, innovative and cohesive no matter what medium he'd work with. GTA itself cannot work as a movie or TV show; you need that interactivity and storytelling to bring that crime fantasy to life.

The telling part of the interview that Houser mentioned would have to be why GTA takes place in America. America is afforded to be satirized as it's a a melting pot of various cultures, characters and ideas that coexist in one massive plot of land. Of course, the synergy from that comes with conflict and ridiculousness builds on its social commentary.

With GTA VI, Houser's genius with his writing prowess will be missing. You cannot have GTA without the absurdity of creating this reflection, this slice of life, that the Americano humor thrives with its execution. House outright said that with today's social/political climate, it'd be impossible to predict or write current-day satire as real life writes itself everyday. More than that, it'd now be a victim of political pressure where its edge is diminished to not offended certain groups of people. How can you be satire of American culture when you suppress that level of satire?

It really makes me think about how Red Dead Redemption 2 was being edited and re-written and stuff was being re-shot like a month before the game launched.

With Dan Houser I 100% believe it was being done (and it probably wasn't just him making the call, but still) to try the make the best game possible.

If these delays do have anything to do with the writing, it makes me wonder if it's really to improve it or just to change something to not offend or something like that.

It kind of did work as a movie since Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was pretty much a GTA movie, even if it wasn't intended to be.

Le reddit told me the dude bro frat boy culture was toxic..........without them we get a game every 7 years bc of queers, nigs, and poojeets who cant optimize shit. Mind you these idiots think rdr2 is better then 1

I'm thinking the former option. There's probably internal conflict with HOW offensive they want the writing to be. GTA Online and by extension RDRII is writing on the wall, no pun intended, of that direction. Sam Houser is just an executive producer, well now, the president of Rockstar Games. I don't think he'd have much input compared to Dan Houser did before.

At this point I'd rather have them release it under another name and cancel GTAVI alltogether.
I think this might be the funniest/most pathetic post here since the announcement and that includes all the “it will be as buggy as Cyberpunk was at release” posts.

As previously stated, Redemption 2 got delayed a whole year from 2017 to 2018.
It was not this cataclysmic, doomer situation.
Anyone who has ever played a GTA game, or most Rockstar games in general, know that they usually come out in the fall. I knew damn well that May release day wasn’t happening, wishful thinking on their part.
This is typical Rockstar being Rockstar.

Even if it’s not, isn’t this the “grieving” thread? Shouldn’t you guys be happy?
You’d think GTA 6 being bad would be the best thing in the world to you guys.

My stance is that if it’s anything close to Redemption 2, I’ll like it quite a bit.
If it sucks ass, good! It will bring us one step closer to video game crash 2 and the bastards will all burn and someone halfway decent will rise from the ashes and we’ll be back in a position like 1985 again.

Allegedly, there were 2-3 scrapped outlines before Dan Houser actually left Rockstar.

If true it makes me wonder if Dan kept throwing the ideas away, decided he couldn't do better than RDR2 and decided to leave or if there are people above that can make that call now.

Dan never mentioned anything like it in the interviews with IGN and Lex, but after mentioning that GTA IV was dark because he was in a dark place, I can't help but think RDR2's heavy theme of "our time is over, the world has changed" did come from a personal place even if it was kind of a continuation from RDR1.

Edit: Apparently Tom Henderson believes that GTA VI is content complete at this point. I remember after the first delay I heard rumors that the major sticking point was getting GTA Online *perfect* to avoid a launch disaster like the original and now I'm really wondering if that could also be a factor in the delay.

Who is going to midnight launches in 2025+? As much as I liked them they're a relic.
I never went to any, but I guess there's not much shared excitement for queuing for a box with a download code inside.

Will the game even be playable for the first few days? Let's say it hits sales targets of 50 million in the opening weekend. The servers won't cope with that.
Just pray its not gonna be an always online game, so you can stick to the single player. If GTA6 is an always online game, its DOA. Because its gonna be monetized from hell and back, and all the snake sales man tricks in the book are gonna be used to cash in. The worst thing GTA got was the online mode, it stopped Rockstar from making new games.

When max payne 3 tanked rockstar stopped taking risks. Breaking the promise of single player dlc over half assed online dlc that shiuld have been included in V. Then there's the no effort for RDO. Bully 2 got canceled. Its crazy how every dev you grow up loving you end up wanting them to burn.
