Hey a mid PS2 game beats a mid 6th gen and beyond game any day, just because there was still plenty of experimentation happening. You won't find another game like The Warriors. There are many games like Dying Light.
The only 3d brawler I've found that feels as good as The Warriors is Sleeping Dogs (and that is a great 7th gen title).

The warriors is fucking great. The beginning hour or 2 has nothing to do with the film, you're just a gang in coney island, beating up other dudes, robbing people, participating in riots, then you get into the story. Then there are stories of how each member came to become a Warrior.
As far as rockstar "bonus" games go, The Warriors is the absolute fucking best.
Don't take it from me, take it from this delightful zoomer.

ETA: As I'm typing this I'm downloading The Warriors on my PS5, I remember on the PS4 I had some buggy issues with it the color was fucked up like nothing was the right color, apparently they could be fixed but I didn't get around to it.

It was my favorite fucking game when I was 12. Let's see how much I love it in my 30s.
The Warriors is downloaded, immediately hit with "This ps4 game might experience difficulties on your PS5 console".
Considering this is a PS2 game and not a PS4 game..

It looks janky, but that's more for it being a 2005 game. The mouths moving look almost like Robot Chicken skits. But it included Ajax calling the gang faggots so that's pretty cool

Just started in. It's Rembrandts initiation, he's gotta beat up a bunch of bums.
Holy fuck the the shit is flickering. You can probably play through it just fine, but anything that has letters, is having an anuerism.

The bum as I'm beating him in the tutorial: "Hey hey! Lay off the liver, it's got enough problems!" :story:

I still have a PS4. If it's still available for purchase, @Hey Johnny Bravo suggested that to me a while back. Or just emulate it accordingly. And it's a PS2 game emulated for PS4, which is why you're seeing that message.

Did Saints Row 2 come out before or after GTA IV? I ask because SR2 had a zombie minigame. If GTA IV had a zombie horde minigame, would that be in reaction to SR2?

Conclusion, if you don't mind the flicker (it's not that bad, maybe slightly annoying just because of the fact it SHOULD be better.) The Warriors PS2 is as fun on the PS2 Slim I grew up on as it is on the PS5 I sometimes regret buying. I mean if you have severe epilepsy then maybe use caution but honestly the flickering isn't that bad. I've been on the pause menu and it's only the top words on the screen flickering. You won't notice it after awhile I bet.

The quality on the PS5 is the same as it was on the PS4.
If you can emulate it awesome, I don't at all advise more money to Rockstar, but I won't deny that Warriors is a fucking awesome game.

And Saints Row 2 was after GTA IV and the gameplay is so different I don't understand why people acted like it was a competition. GTA IV was probably the best game narratively they ever made.
Saints Row 2 was "What if GTA but we didn't take ourselves so serious??"
SR2 was perfect. You could be a fat little clown midget and if you equipped the pimp cane it let you walk with a pimp lean AND it was a shotgun, all while yelling at hardened gangbangers with your orange hair and fat titties hanging out.
Or you could play it super serious. I made my character look like The Crow, 2Pac, Hulk Hogan, the only thing I wanted to change was the gang color at will.
It wasn't until SR3 where it went to shit. They took their "We don't take ourselves seriously!" thing too seriously. SR3 was their t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m moment.

Where's Chinatown Wars on the poll, i had a blast with that game
I should replay that. Controls are a bit iffy, but I loved the 2.5D isometric design and comic book aesthetic.

Speaking of GTA IV, I just noticed that the tw@ Internet cafes play The Journey radio station there.

Definitely sounds like you're traveling in (cyber)space, one website at a time.

I really really liked the mechanics of Chinatown Wars. They really made the most of the touchscreen features of the NDS. From hotwiring cars to everything else

I sank a lot of time on the drug dealing aspects of the game, not many games from this franchise allowed you to make meaningful quantities of money on your own. Cop chases were fun to with the gimmick of totaling cars against obstacles

Just beat GTA 4 for the first time in like 15 years since the 18th anniversary of the game is coming up. It's crazy how well the multiplayer still holds up and that you can even still play it online. 4 is better than 5 in pretty much everyway in my opinion, especially the story. Long live Niko Bellic.

Kind of waiting for this game Samson, releases pretty soon. 3D brawlin'n drivin! (since you were talking about 3d brawlers and GTA-likes, although I doubt this will be the latter that much)

I get the feeling that it's small and focused enough to probably pull something off. Haven't done too much research but to my surprise it doesn't look awful.

Here's the trailer from the official game channel, plenty more footage to be had there:

"As far back as I can remember" oh I see what you're doing there fellas

Not just that, that dev console was at a flea market, sold for $6. Just think about it: a company as secretive as Rockstar Games, one of their dev consoles with invaluable information is sold off for SIX DOLLARS. Diamond in the rough.
Some people are speculating that this was actually Leslie Benzies dev console based on some file names or something.

What I wouldn't give for a sequel to that game, or hell even another entry to the series it was originally supposed to be part of; True Crime.

The company shutting down and the game being left as a standalone still bums me out.

Idk, sometimes franchises can just die, no need to keep making new releases forever.

But, they should all be available to buy, and at minimum have a good pc port.

Especially in this day and age.

I would have loved a Sleeping Dogs 2 release in 2015. In 2026? I think I'd pass on that. Likewise for a new Splinter Cell. I've lost all hope and desire to see a new one. Ubisoft don't have the wherewithal to put out a quality product anymore.

And on topic I'm not even going to buy GTA 6. I don't like the direction R* has been heading for years now and I don't have high hopes at all for the franchise anymore. My favorite franchise at that.

Well yeah that kinda goes without saying. I can't think of a modern studio that I'd even trust with it, let alone a modern publisher. But I'd have killed for a sequel back when the original was still fresh.

Personally I despise the "release one game every 10 years and milk that for a gorillion dollars" businessmodel over the multi-releases of the past.

Even if you didn't like GTA:SA you still had like 5 other R* games to pick from around the same time, now it's either GTA6 or jack shit.

I've beaten San Andreas and V (I haven't played any of the others).
I want to pick up another GTA game, what would you say is your rec?
Playing through IV. It’s a lot of fun and feels more like the GTAs on PS2. But I highly recommend FusionFix since it fixes some problems on PC. One that is very noticeable is the cut scenes were wonky with some of the scene cut out.

Also makes the game look better.
