Weird thing about modern R* is that both the story modes of GTA5 and RDR2 and their multiplayer components are polar opposites.

Their single player player components have a lot of detail, writing, gameplay systems and depth put into them and have monetization models on-par with 7 gen games, just preorder bonuses (fancy vehicles, fancy guns, extra cash and throwaway side missions) that all have zero bearing on whether or not you can get 100% completion in the story and can be easily outclassed by shit acquired in-game.

Their multiplayer components on the other hand are the epitome of scummily designed, nickel and dimed, barely functional multiplayer dreck.

I don't think R* knows how to properly do multiplayer in their games. It's not as well designed as their single player experiences. At best, it's average fare with a few twists R* adds.

And I get the feeling that most of the shark card shit is Take Two’s doing more than the Houser brothers, the Housers were surprised that GTAO even took off

In RDR2 it seems like all of the modern politics/modern cultural jabs are mainly in the background in favor of delivering a good story set in fun playground full of likable side characters that wound up being liked by many demographics ranging from the leftist Polygon and Kotaku to more right leaning guys like TheQuartering, NoBullshit, and fellow Kiwi Sophia Narwitz of NicheGamer...why do I get the feeling Volition will learn nothing from RDR2 and go full TDS with the next Saints Row?

I can already see the Drumpf and “Johnny Gat says Trans Rights” cringe appearing in SR5

I love Saints Row 2, it was the perfect blend of goofy over-the-top open world shenanigans, and without being too much so, but man, 3 and 4 did very little for me. The series just went too over the top and lost sight of what it originally was. Even if the new one isn't preachy or full of BS, I just don't see it pulling me in. I don't think they can tone it back, at least not to what it was pre-3, so it more than likely won't be a game for me.

2 is undoubtable GOAT, but I liked 4 as its own game (due to my love of chaotic superpower games like Hulk Ultimate Destruction and Sunset Overdive), but 3 felt like a confused 4 prototype and AoM looks like a trainwreck.

Aside from idpol, I’d also be concerned about an SR5 becoming “Ubisoftized”, it apparently sorta happened with Gat Out of Hell and AoM was supposed to be a confused mess that tried to be a soft-reboot, a team-based TPS, and a sandbox and failed at everything

I recently began GTA online because I just needed new GTA content.

Not too appealing to me yet but I just need a safe house and set a VPN so I can use the new casino. Lo and behold, what finally got me to start is banned in my country.

Fuck Take 2’s paypig MMO, just play RDR2 SP and pretend it’s GTA5.5.

Also, fuck Take 2 for getting rid of “Night of the Living Gangstas” for more paypiggy MMO shit

I fucking hate GTA Online just for screwing single player fans over, makes me feel vindicated that RDR Online's flopping.

The sooner nonsense like Shark Cards go die in a fire, the better.

Sadly it'll never happen. As long as it pays more than just making a good online experience, it'll never come to fruition. To be honest, you'd rather play more well-crafted online experiences than a company who honestly had no right in making online games (Except GTA IV's multiplayer, but that was honestly just an era that will never come back)

It’s sad because the SP campaigns of RDR2 and GTA5 are so good

I loved The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Driving and walking around Springfield and its interiors was a dream for me made into reality. During its good seasons too no less.

The Simpsons: Hit & Run was totally based as fuck. The only truly good Simpsons games were that and the Konami arcade game from the early 90's.

The Simpsons: Road Rage was decent but not great and I kind of get the feeling that it was more of a way to test the waters for The Simpsons: Hit & Run since The Simpsons is rather infamous for its low-quality licensed games.

What I like the most about it is that it was essentially a PG version of the PS2-era Grand Theft Auto games and was still a fun and entertaining game despite being relatively family friendly compared to the game it was trying to cash in on.

I can't think of very many open world sandbox games that are not rated Mature.

Especially the ones released on the Sixth Gen consoles, which were mostly just clones of GTA III to varying degrees, it was similar to how so many FPS games in the 90's were clones of Doom.

I have to admit, I do miss the days of the old-school "GTA Clone" games, my favorites being The Godfather video game for the PS2 and The Simpsons Hit & Run.

I think Saints Row 1 would be the last of these "old-school" open world games since it pretty much was originally meant to be a cheap clone of GTA (San Andreas in particular) but then Grand Theft Auto IV went all grimdark and Saints Row 2 was created as a more over-the-top alternative.

Another interesting GTA Clone from the PS2 era was GUN, which was Western-themed and was very fun, but is totally forgotten nowadays.

GUN was honestly more of a forerunner to Red Dead Redemption than Red Dead Revolver.

VC was the game that made me a fan, just reading Vice City makes me remember the trailer with "I Ran".

San Andreas was just insane, kept discovering new things all the time. Collecting airplanes, modifying vehicles, even playing with mods and trainers that allowed me to modify unmodifiable vehicles.

I despised IV, from its tech demo aesthetics, its story, its characters, its themes, its limitations to its awful boatlike driving physics; its GTA, its supposed to be an over the top game, not a realistic sim.

V was a huge improvement over IV, but the three character system got old fast.

Can anyone confirm if Rockstar gimped the PS3 version of the GTAIV soundtrack?

I just picked up the complete edition for 3 bucks on PS3 to play the expansions and I'm worried it's gonna have the shit soundtrack update the PC version had. Should I keep my PS3 offline while I play?

Yep, R* removed a ton of songs from IV.

PC versions of GTA are the ultimate versions of GTA. Keyboard and mouse/controller support and modding.

The modding community in GTA is very talented. Not just with replacing existing assets with real life counterparts, but revealing archival data from development. GTA 3D is one such example; literally using pre-rendered and handmade assets to replicate alpha GTA 3.

Not to mention fixing San Andreas with a fan made patch that R* couldn't be bothered to do, AND circumventing the "Cold Coffee" patch, which disabled modding. My personal favorite is the PS2 on PC for GTA SA. Basically, PS2 textures on PC.

I'm aware of the songs being removed. You're link doesn't specify if there was ever an update released for the PS3 version of the game. Some links online say console disc versions are unaffected, some say console and PC are all affected. There is only this one vague comment about the ps3 in your link:

"That said, I'm extra curious now if disc copies of Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 work on Xbox One X without the need for any update. If you're on PlayStation 3, oddly enough, Rockstar apparently sent out codes for the lost tunes as some sort of weird workaround."

I can't seem to find anyone talking about a Rockstar GTA4 music code, a PS3 update to GTA4 messing up the songs, or talking about any updates in 2018 or 2019 on the PS3 coinciding with the song removal update on PC. Probably because I'm one of the only people on earth playing GTA4 on a PS3 in 2019. For the time being I have been playing with my PS3 internet connection disabled as a precaution.
