This was a big reason I gave up once Toreno's missions were introduced, because now you had to travel between San Fierro and the middle of the desert for different missions. There was just too much dead air and it made me wish for a fast travel system. It's impressive they were able to fit such a gigantic map onto the PS2, but in practical terms it means that traveling between locations is a total slog.

Toreno's missions were also total bullshit which was another big reason I quit. Seriously, fuck the plane controls.
I may have bitched about this before but ever since N.O.E. R* has made sure there's always a "fly close the ground mission", those missions suck and R* needs to stop using them.

I heard that DRM protection like Denovo can be invasive to other files on your computer. Even if it does nothing to the game itself. Or that it screws with your antivirus software.

Back to GTA: my favorite feature in the GTA 3D era were the Rampages. They would be scattered around the world, usually in alleys or behind buildings, and would task you to kill X people in a set amount of time using Y weapon.

In GTA 2, they were called Kill Frenzy.

GTA 3 had the hardest Rampages, particularly ones that requires headshots. If you remember, GTA 3 had horrible, sensitive free aim on consoles. Sometimes, enemies wouldn't spawn in time either. Still, they were fun diversions.

IRC, San Andreas or IV did not have them.
The Rampages returned in GTA V and were pretty entertaining in my opinion. Sadly, Trevor is/was the only character that has access to them, which makes sense thematically, but is kinda shitty for the gameplay in my opinion.

Also, the "drive/ride across the map while you and your NPC buddies argue over stupid shit" missions. They were fine in the earlier games because of the era they came out in, were starting to wear out their welcome in V but were sometimes funny, and by RDR2 were so obnoxious some missions would just fade to black and teleport you right to the intended area after the banter was over. I don't know if that or having the mission area be where you start it is the solution, but they need to do something, because replaying the games is a chore.

There was one mission where you smoke some guy's weed and Michael hallucinates aliens to kill. More rampages like that would've increased variety.

I would say have Franklin do gang shootouts a la Rampages too, but that wouldn't make sense in context to the story.

I would've loved a Lamar story DLC with gang warfare.

These are all good ideas, having Franklin get dragged back into the whole gang warfare thing because his friend Lamar is a fucking idiot would work well and would have given Franklin more content, which he honestly needed. So much of the regular game was about the interplay between Michael and Trevor that Franklin kinda wound up being a bit of a third wheel. Now, I liked the stuff with Michael and Trevor, and the missions and other assorted stuff that Franklin gets in the SP campaign isn't bad or anything, but he really could have used a bit more.

Sadly, Rockstar has figured out that GTA Online is basically a money-printing machine now, so any future content will be online only now. ;_;

Establish it as a prequel to the main story. Or have Lamar as a playable character. I loved Lamar, he was an original, wacky character.

I'm not sure if the Lowriders DLC takes place before or after V's main story.

Why not have story DLC in Lowriders, then upon completion of THAT, discounts for the cars in Online?

I find it impressive how much Rockstar downgraded the radio from IV to V. All stations in V sound like Flying Lotus DJ mixes. Previous game was packed with boss tunes. Piloting a chopper in a rainy night listening to The Journey was my favorite thing to do in the game. Fedorable, I know, but also relaxing as fuck. And it came with a funny DJ too.

The only good music in V is the OST (which was partially or entirely produced by Tangerine Dream, I think?).
Also, I imagine that if they're picking songs for a new game they might be struggling to find someone who will still sound fresh when they release it.
If you could suggest tracks, DJs or stations, what would you suggest?

Sorry to bring this subject up again but I missed the discussion.

Even so, in the episodes, the bridges are reopened as it nothing happened. Although in The Ballad of Gay Tony, it takes place after the Three Leaf Clover mission, which the bridges reopen, so it makes sense. In The Lost and Damned, some events intertwine during Niko's initial missions. BEFORE the bridges open up.

For Vice City and Vice City Stories, it's because of hurricanes. For III and Liberty City Stories, it's because the bridge is damaged. San Andreas, you got me.

IIRC, the reason why the bridges were closed off was because C.R.A.S.H told CJ to stay within Los Santos or risk going to prison. If you swim all the way to San Fierro or Las Venturas before they're unlocked, you get a four-star wanted level.

Still don't get why they had to actually physically close the bridges and highways though. They could've just gone the Fallout New Vegas route and made the areas outside Los Santos very dangerous for a starting player to encourage you to play the story.

I wonder what the timeline is for the next GTA? TBH, I think the market is getting increasingly saturated with open-world games, though any GTA game will sell well based on Rockstar's reputation (no TLOUII/Anthem messup yet).

I could see some Take Two subsidiary/Rockstar office doing a separate GTA Online II that contains both Los Santos and a remastered Liberty City + VR integration, and the entire studio coasting on that for the next decade or so while taking their time for the next big AAA entry.

Also, isn't Dan Houser leaving? Could see this as TakeTwo pressuring Rockstar to improve its development cycle and reduce the cinematic aspect of the games. Seven on-and-off years for RDRII was a bit ridiculous, I have to admit.

There’s more rumors circulating that it might be going back to Vice City in the 70’s, since they love the show “Narcos”, but I read that they’re fake.

Not only did the downgrade the radio in V, the retroactively nuked the original radio from GTA4 in an update and added shitty replacement filler songs. The money-grubbyness of Rockstar and/or take2 is disgusting.

I think Rockstar has trouble licensing older songs now since everyone knows GTA is the biggest entertainment property they hold out for a shitton of cash.

That's why most of the online update music has been shitty no name rap. They're probably practically giving away music for exposure.

Another downgrade from IV to V, the character models. They look like they're plastic. Especially returning characters.
I think GTAIV was designed from the ground up to be "next gen" on every level. The graphics, the physics, interactions, driving, etc. Having a living, breathing city with residents who respond to weather and other conditions. Then with GTAV they cut all corners they could while still being able to release a game called "GTA" for their next batch of millions and then GTA:V online to milk even more out of it.

Dude, they make hand over fist with those shark cards alone, they can easily afford to license music for their old games.

No, their problem is that they don't give a shit about preserving their games, just look at that horrible San Andreas port.

Rockstar doesn't get shit on enough, but all gamers and most people playing these games are retards or children who don't know any better. The last few pages would get you ran off of any normalfag board. They have been coasting for almost a decade, glad I'm not the only one who thought V was a step backwards.

How come Saints Row doesn't have this problem with their music rights? And Volition is a smaller company than R*.
