Rockstar has gotten better but they still have issues. GTA V is littered with story missions that arent fun and only there to further the story. The minigames and other side content feel limited due to over structure to fit the narrative.

Even for all the strides I feel RDR2 made with side content being fun its horribly hampered by the rigid adhesion to overly detailed and annoying animations.

The problem isnt the story or trying to tell it but the insistence that every facet of the game needs to be part of telling that story.
Rockstar's story missions always sucked.

They're either super basic "drive here and kill these people", super frustrating "drive here but don't damage the car at all", or super boring and restrictive "drive here, and then walk behind this guy, but if you go anywhere or do anything, you lose the mission".

This mission comes to mind. Using the construction equipment was so boring. It was slow, cumbersome and uninteresting.

One of the heists required you to MOP as your cover.

I understand trying to deviate from the "drive, shoot, tail" gameplay loop but some ideas work in theory, but not in practice.

I wish stealth was more fleshed out. Even if I shoot somebody in the desert, they know my immediate location. Bull.

Those missions almost feel like Rockstar trying to flex.
"Look! We can program a cargo crane!"

This really says a lot, because *everything* is a story mission in modern day Rockstar.

Tow Truck missions would be some kind of crazy taxi style "beat the clock without losing the vehicle" game in a 3D era GTA title, but in GTA V it's just spending 10 minutes listening to some crack whore bitch that Franklin isn't hood enough x5.

Honestly, I really hate how they moved from side missions to stranger missions or whatever they call them.

Vice City and San Andreas did a serviceable job adding lore to the side missions. Since you're building a criminal empire, there's a bit of backstory in-between missions after you buy the property.

Lore in side missions can work, V just pales in comparison to before.

This HAS to be a publicity stunt.

This take is worse than the "killing prostitutes" trope from 15 years ago.

I didn't even know those character models existed in GTA V. And they're attacking Vice City now.

At least GTA can still cause controversy, even in 2020.
all the horseshit going on in the world makes me miss Jack Thompson

at least in that era people knew he was a goddamn loony, whether you agreed with him or not

I had to read this shit, so you guys get to as well.

People who cry about GTA making fun of certain groups are so goddamn hilarious to me. So the wanton murder of civilians and prostitutes is A-Okay, but poking fun at women and troons is crossing the line.

GTA is a series that sticks a middle finger in the face of authority, left or right. The fact that now we have bitches whining about it being bigoted shows the games are still culturally relevant.

Remember when Jack Thompson lost his shit over Bully for the game allowing Jimmy to kiss boys at will?

Somehow, those times were saner compared to now.

I'm wondering if the lack of new single-player entry is less about making a parody of life and more because the brains behind it lost their balls when GTA: Online turned out to be a risk-free money factory

If any of you intend to play the PC version of GTA 4 install DXVK: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases
The performance issues that GTA 4 suffers from are caused by an overwhelming amount of draw calls which absolutely kills the performance due to the game only using 2 threads and it running on dx9, prior to dx12 and Vulkan all draw calls were handled by a single thread. DXVK helps ease the CPU overhead. DXVK also helps with other poorly multithreaded dx9-dx11 games

In your opinion, is GTA IV at least worth playing if you have this installed? Because frankly the performance issues are the only thing keeping me from buying it on PC.

Yes, but pirate it or downgrade it. Rockstar removed quite a few of the songs due to licensing issues.
I think I'm gonna go with downgrading it. I have no experience pirating stuff. What was the patch just prior to the soundtrack being gutted?

First off, I didn't even know there were transgender prostitutes in the game.

Second, you play as a black gangbanger, a middle aged thief, and Trevor, they're not going to be the most PC people.

Third, welcome to Grand Theft Auto, no one is safe from getting the piss taken out of them in some form.

Just pirate the game, you get better mod compatibility and more music. I would recommend you pirate the game from Ovagames, all the download links are direct download which means you don't have to worry about torrenting the game and getting a notice from your IP. You can also try the crack on fitgirl's repacks, make sure you go to fitgirl.site and not any other, which also has direct download and torrents. The only issue with the one on fitgirl's repacks that it is the 1.08 version.

From the comments on that video:
they probably spent more time and resources on these Anti-Piracy measures than actually porting the game to PC

It really seems like you're up a creek if you want to play IV on the PC. It's a shame too, because it has a great atmosphere that doesn't get as cartoonish as V. Hard to put my finger on why I don't like V as much, even with first-person driving. I tried to play it again on PC but now they want a social club login and I just want to play offline. Publishers have a shitty habit of adding launchers to games after the fact, rockstar isn't the only one.
