Why won't someone leave these poor billionaires alone. They suffered enough already
Financial markets aren't just empty numbers traded back and forth between computers. If the markets crash, no one gets paid. Fuel doesn't get delivered, so there's no way to deliver food and other necessities. The electricity grid goes down, there's no way to repair it, and without electricity water pipes don't run, goodbye to the water and waste grid. If there's ash in the sky, then even airdropping emergency supplies is out.

Once numbers get big enough they don't seem real, but every big number is made of many, many, smaller numbers that are very real indeed.

GOOD

I hope this eases off by the summer. We're supposed to be having a last family holiday on Crete this year. First time we've got together for fiveish years and probably the last time some of the oldies will be able to do more than a day trip to formby. Damn you, capricious nature!

Don't be so pessimistic! If Santorini erupts, you'll get a realistic and interactive Minoan civilization experience instead of just looking at boring ruins.

We may be related…. Drop some hints when you’re there if theres anyone who might be me ! we need a code word. Talk about kiwis.

Campi Flegrei started throwing 3.0 quake swarms this weekend. Very similar to Santorini. And they've got Volcanic gasses coming up through the highway pavement.

(Yes this Silki chick seems a nutbag. But it was best footage I can find so far) And it's next door neighbor Vesuvious is showing signs of magma movement and 2.0 quake storms. If you think Santorini lighting off would be bad, Campi Flegrei is much much worse. Like Yellowstone tier worse. If Yellowstone had Chicago sitting on top of it worse. Geologist Kiwi's, WTF is going on along that African-Eurasian plate interface? Should we be building a Space Ark? Did European Leadership put on the Magichan Amulet?

To my limited knowledge of geophysics, my understanding is that we don't really know much about what goes on in the deeper parts of the mantle. We have some general idea, but we really don't know. Flegrei waking up at the same time as Santorini could be related, or maybe not. The fact that both are now active is a concern. SOMETHING is going on along these faults, but what that something is? Who knows.

This scary music and noises documentary was posted a few months ago by PBS.

In other news, another 5.0 Earthquake at Santorini today. Things are still shaking. They had a 4.6 just 30 minutes ago.

"A second earthquake swarm has hit the Mediterranean."

Such a shame it’s not under Brussels and Geneva and CoL.

I'm realizing geophysics is dull as rocks, so the only youtubers in this particular niche are fucking insane.

On a somewhat related note, youtube must have noticed my interest and reccomended a video about the eruption of Mount Lamington.

That eruption was preceded by several weeks of moderate earthquakes too.

Off topic: I highly recommend Plainly Difficult. He knows his shit and is able to break it down and lay it out in such a way that stupid newbs can grasp. Soothing voice, no sensationalism even on very sensational topics, and very respectful to people who are injured or lose their lives.

That would be cool, the family that posts on Kiwifarms together stays together :D

It's a shame that most volcanoes are situated in countries with nice, normal people. i mean why can't this volcano be in the usa or some muslim shit hole, maybe central saudi arabia to cause as much damage and kill as many useless subhumans as possible?
I hope it doesn't errupt or if, that it's another case of "nothing ever happens"
