Jail isn't only to "punish" people, it's to detain people who are a danger to society.

Hey I was in county for a few years about 20 yrs ago and my room mate was in on murder charges, he did about 20 years then it turned out he was innocent was it fair he did over 20 yrs between county and prison because they used a jail house informant since they had no evidence no but thats life sometimes, he was on dateline not to long ago.

Well, you have to look at it like this people who could be a danger to society need to be detained until they are decided upon one way or the other, I doubt this girl ever went to prison she probably just spent a year or two in county while she was dealing with the court. If a murderer was sent straight to prison I'd really wonder how well that case was looked into before trial
