Half Life Alyx and Boneworks - The two VR games that dare to be different. Okay maybe just one, but still. AKA Floop’s shill thread.

Is VR the big gay?

. Blade & Sorcery's weapons have a great feeling of weight to them, the claymore and maul will twist your virtual wrist if you try to 1-hand them and require you to take big swings and work up momentum to deliver optimal blows, while the dagger and buckler will move just as fast as you can move your controllers. In Gorn, the weapons all sorta behave like rubber, the handle moves 1:1 and the head lags behind. They'll bend if you swing them too fast and again won't deliver optimal blows.
Gorn was a great experience that I’ll never forget, but I really wish I got Blade & Sorcery instead.

Shit's been worth every penny, it gets real crazy once you start using slow motion to punch dudes across the map, sprint over to where they're about to land and catch them on a spear.

And from what I’ve seen it’s got a big modding community.

My favorite part of this new Half Life coming out is the salt pouring in from /v/. I'm trying to trawl some threads every now and then to get some that could be edited and be decent copy-pastas for the future.
This was my favorite one:
>Industry and buyer feedback will decide whether or not they focus more on Half Life in the future

They can go fuck themselves. They haven't taken any fucking notable feedback on any of their other titles in my memory. They've let everything get fucking rotten to the point where "Valve" doesn't mean shit to me anymore. The bar is set so fucking low for Valve to do anything decent and they can't even hurdle it. And let's be clear, the bar is anything that's more thoughtful and structured than some random employee waking up, reading (exclusively) Reddit, and fixing a drip in the sink while the basement is flooding.
I'm sitting at TI wondering, "why the fuck am I here over doing literally anything else in this city". Every time I saw some DotA celebrity doing anything, and it was always badly whether it be clowning around or interviewing, it took away from the experience. It was like going to Disneyland and every time you saw a mascot they were taking a piss in the bushes. Food was shit, swag was shit, lines were monumentally long even by con-standards. I unironically had more fun sitting at the mall with friends gorging myself on chowder than any of the extra content to be found wandering TI. It's one thing to neglect your fucking games; it's another thing to utterly neglect your goddamn premier gaming event.
Don't know what TI had to do with anything, but I'm sure with a little tweaking, this same thing will work when Portal 3 or L4D3 eventually gets announced.

L4D 3 was cancelled and the dev team are at Turtle Rock making Back 4 Blood instead as a succesor.

It's VR. Nuff said. Not gonna put any money to anything on that. Was initially excited, though, which makes the fact it's platform is VR a real shame.
Now I just want Valve to update TF2, since this is presumably their excuse for not giving us shit for years.

What Everyone is gonna be using the vive for after they finish playing half-life: Alyx (2020)

I have a suspicion that HL Alyx is a test. They know the consumer base doesn't just eat shit up excitedly like the did 10-20 years ago and rate it 8/10+ by default. They probably do want to make HL3, but don't want it to get obliterated like Mass Effect 3 did.

If Alyx underperforms, hl3 is canned forever

On the one hand, there’s a certain wisdom to not jumping back into things cold. It’s been over a decade since Valve made a single player, narrative-based game; I could see why they’d be hesitant to have their first shot at a new one be something with as much baggage as a true Half Life 3.

On the other hand, HL2 was a bold evolution of its predecessor with refined art direction, solid storytelling, and an engine that Valve literally built its empire on. This follow-up is just a lady version of shit we’ve already seen.

There’s a chance that this ends up being the premier VR experience that pushes the technology over the tipping point into ubiquity, but I’m not sure I’d expect that from a company who brought us Artifact a year ago.

That’s the sad thing. Valve is talented, but their legacy is permanently tainted by a fucking card game.

While obviously Half-Life is more important, it also sucks that Left 4 Dead's story line was left hanging as well.

They did release a comic that brought some closure to the original cast, but none for the sequel's nor for the world as a whole.

But I'm just so glad Valve is back to proper game development, they were the best thing about the 7th gen, I mean they were just on fire.

I also just realized, wouldn't VR be perfect fit for Portal?

If I can rocket jump in VR without getting sick, I sure as hell can jump through some portals at 70 mph

Honestly, does anyone else plan on buying a copy of Alyx even if they can't play it?

I mean I want to be able to play it eventually, so why not go ahead and buy it? And I want to support Half-Life as a series, no other game has me made want to buy it even though I can't play it, but that's just how special Half-Life and Valve is to me.

I'm not about to buy a product I can't use just to "show" support. That's gay corporate dicksucking. Make no mistake, Valve might be a benelovent master but they're still a corporation at the end of the day.

Well, I should clarify that I'm thinking about buying it, 60$ bucks is still nothing to sneeze at, so we'll see, depends on what else is coming out in March I guess.

I don't think it's "gay corporate dicksucking" to support one of my all time favorite series, I've been very upset and critical of Valve over some of their decisions in recent years, believe me, but if they're going to put effort into doing better, why not support that?

Because it's the same as pre-orders. You're putting in money because they promise to give you something, not because they already have. Shit like this is why Star Yiddizen, and a metric fuckton of other Kikestarters all failed. You're essentially letting them fool you into "supporting" a brand with no guarantee on their end on actually delivering.

Now, I'm well aware this is Valve we're talking about, and there's a higher chance they might actually do something with the series now if this actually takes off. But the principle of the thing applies: give them money only if they make something you want and can use. No sooner. All this "brand loyalty" bullshit is just marketing and social engineering at work.
