Half Life Alyx and Boneworks - The two VR games that dare to be different. Okay maybe just one, but still. AKA Floop’s shill thread.

What a coincidence! So did Valve:

If my memory serves they previewed it at GDC before dropping the project. Modders have since come in with Portal 2 VR content to fill the gap. There might be more to the story but I’m at work and can’t research right now.
They never abandoned that. It’s in the lab. I don’t think it was meant to be a full game, just a cool experience meant to show off the vive.

So, anyone want to discuss theories about Half-Life's story?

The G-man is some type of alien being who is playing 4D chess and using humanity as a whole and Gordon Freeman in particular to take down the Combine.

But why the hell did he release the combine?

He saw potential in humanity being the ones to take them down, which is why he drew their attention to us.

But to be clear the G-Man is not a good guy either, humanity is just pawns to him, it may be a case of he wants to simply replace the Combine as supreme ruler of the multiverse, not free everyone, the final boss of the series will probably be the G-Man himself.

I also think that Gordon is actually possessed by some other alien entity, which is why an average Joe can take down armies and why he never speaks, this other entity is good as a counter to the G-Man.

Basically the whole series is about a very complicated 4D chess game between very powerful, very old alien entities with humanity unluckily stuck in the middle.

Sorry I deleted that comment because I realized “wait no he didn’t”

Well The G-Man is who caused the Resonance Cascade by giving Black Mesa that crystal, which in turn brought the Combine's attention to us, so in a way he did.

G-MaN iS GoRdOn FrOm ThE fUtUrE

Honestly I don't want them to reveal a whole lot about the guy. Him being mysterious is what makes it interesting. Exposition can easily ruin that

I definitely don't buy that theory because he's pretty clearly supposed to be a sinister figure.

But yeah, there should always be an element of mystery.

Didn't the Vortigaunts basically chase him off at the beginning of HL2E1? Now, call me an easily charmed fool, but I liked the Vortigaunts. They were friendly, personable and genuinely seemed to be on our side. I mean, they got their asses conquered by the Combine and were used as shock troops against us during the initial invasion, but quickly began defecting once it was clear that humanity might actually be a legitimate threat to the Combine's power.

Either they drove G-Man off because they didn't want him yeeting Freeman into stasis for another 20 years, or they're legitimately afraid of the fucker. I mean, remember what he was saying about "employment opportunities" at the end of HL2? Creepy shit, and very ominous. Something tells me that fucker does NOT have our best interests at heart. Fuck, even Breen was aware of him pulling Freeman's strings.

I trust the Vorties a lot more than I trust some dimension hopping suit with a speech pattern irregularity.

Always put your trust in interdimensional Jamaican space aliens

MFW I take an extended vacation and eat meals out of a tube to play the new half life non stop

Well it definitely won’t be an hour and a half! That would be unacceptable for valve standards!
Half life 2 is longer than an hour and a half? You clearly haven't been watching the runs I've been watching.

So anyway I pulled the trigger on Index. 1300 canuckistan kopecks but my autism for finger tracking is too strong.

I think explaining whatever he is will actually ruin his character. The big mystery surrounding him is part of what makes him interesting.
