The majority of people who play Half Life games now probably never played the original or Opposing Force and Blue Shift. They want stuff with the Half Life 2 characters, enemies, and world. And more stuff like Portal 2 and other spinoffs or VR games. So any game that is called Half Life 3 will be catered exclusively to them and the original fans (and even creators of the actual franchise) will be nothing more than afterthoughts.
I think the more instrumental people realized the powder keg they had created and decided to play the long game and make it an unspoken reason to keep using steam.

It just occurred to me that it's kind of a shame that there's no single-player campaigns for Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat in the vein of Half-Life (as in the player remains in constant control, there's no fancy cinematic cutscenes and or dumb QTEs automating everything). It'd be a nice change from the likes of Call of Duty or Battlefield which currently have a monopoly on those kinds of games.

Like a DOD game where the main campaign has you playing over a period of 2-3 days from the perspective of a British or German soldier that is just trying to survive the clusterfuck that is the war in general.
Sigh. There is so much lore behind this franchise that needs to be explored, but Valve is probably going to not do anything for Half-Life for years if ever as it has already been four years since Half-Life Alyx and they have been completely silent on the future of the series.

One interesting avenue would be something like an expansion of an existing Half-Life game that takes place shorty after the events of Half-Life 2 where you play as a Combine Overwatch soldier that has been cut off from his own unit and is basically trying to save his own ass as the Combine have largely withdrawn from the area you are in and have basically left the stragglers to die.
Lore always seemed to be the least important part of Half-Life so I don't get people being particularly interested in it being expanded. Combine are a big, evil alien empire that are somehow too lazy to reinforce their Earth colony with anything beyond humans with fancy machine guns and minor genetic modifications. Half of Black Mesa's staff that somehow know Freeman personally also magically survived getting purged by Xen aliens or US marines and now lead the human resistance because...reasons. Even Valve apparently agrees with me since they casually retconned a major cliffhanger of Episode 2 just because.

My only hope for Half-Life 3/Half-Life 2: Episode 3 is that it's not just a lazy tech demo but there's an actual solid game behind it.

We don’t talk about Condition Zero in this house.

This whole time i thought the Crowbar Collective were behind the upcoming remake of Opposing Force, but its Tripmine Studios? So it is in no way related to the Black Mesa remake? nigga wuuuuuuhhhh?
Operation Black Mesa is pretty much the Half Life 3 of mods, it's been in development hell since 2010 or so, and I'd imagine that Black Mesa coming out in 2012 didn't help. At least there's a couple of HECU themed Black Mesa mods, unfortunately none are Opfor remakes.

I predict a new Unreal game will come out before Half Life 3.

because Unreal was always better than Half Life

a demo for a roguelike version of half life has dropped called Sourceworld.
Link to Moddb Page.
edit: forgot to add this autism as well.

Is the Blue Shift stuff that the Black Mesa team keep posting on Steam any good? And if it is good, do you think I should wait for it all to be finished before I play?

sprays were originally supposed to be animated in the first place it seems. Or they were testing to see if it was a good idea.

official reloading sound for a grenade launcher, could have been standalone at first before the mp5 addon.

Reload Sound

Heres the full sound
