Valve will never release Half-Life 3. As in, they will never release a Half-Life game by that title. Beat that name out of your mind already.

Do a little mental exercise: what do you expect from a game with that exact title? What technical revolutions do you expect to see? What graphics do you expect to see? What level of imperfection would you be willing to accept? What story do you want to see? Whatever it is that you've conjured in your mind around this title, Half-Life 3, do you really expect that it's something that Valve will ever release? And most importantly: do you think that by calling HLX "Half-Life 3", you're not holding it to the standards of that conjuration? Because you do, subconsciously you do, and that way you're setting yourself up for disappointment. And if you keep holding every new Half-Life installment to that standard, you'll burn your interest towards the series out, and by extent, Valve will lose interest in keeping the series alive if nothing they release lives up to fan expectations.

Just let go of that name, leave it be, it died 17 years ago. Instead, be happy that we're getting a new Half-Life game, and expect just that, a new Half-Life game. Not Half-Life 3. The sooner this name is laid to rest the better for Half-Life as a whole. There have been enough examples in history how expectations around a brand name that people held were the bane of new products that were otherwise fairly decent, just because they didn't live up to the predecessor's name. Learn from them and forget about that name.
The one thing that does make me wonder if it'll actually be called HL3 is that the codename is HLX, and Valve has specifically used "X" to hide the three before, visible with the old datamines regarding L4DX(3). Otherwise though, yeah, makes sense.

One thing that I would like to see for a future Half-Life game, is to have some use for the pheropod for more than just a specific area. You would have to balance it to where it is not overpowered, so how about only being able to summon a set amount of antlions in an area?

I would also like to see a return of some of the previous weapons in the first game in future installments, like the Hivehand.

I want the portal gun back from opposing force. That shit was silly fun. Oh, and snarks, despite how much a meme they were.

I just want them to make the Tau Cannon an actual gun again instead of mounting it on the fucking buggy. Aside from the Gravity Gun and the AR2 HL2's weapon roster is just boring compared to HL1's.
I'll also add that I hope they give us new weapon designs as well, I know it wouldn't really make any sense for us to not see the USP or MP7 given the proximity to Episode 2 on the timeline but I just want to see some new designs. At least outside of the classics like the Spas-12, AR2 and the Gravity Gun. Maybe even import some designs from Alyx like the Pulse SMG.

I'd like to see more original sci fi weapons be added to half life in a future installment. Maybe they could finally have a militarized version of the portal gun and find it on the Borealis? Since that was a goal aperture had.

Not hl3 related but I just got to xen in black Mesa, it’s pretty cool. I like the ost to the game. The shotgun sounds nice but is weak against anything that fires projectiles at you, damage seems undertuned.

Hl3 related: I’d be cool with just a good FPS with valves penchant for leve design and set pieces. We’re beyond the point in gaymin where stupid mind blowing leaps happen any more. We will never see anything like the hl2 tech demo again. Graphics is a dead horse.

I’d love to see a new half life with some imsim elements. Maybe not the rpg elements of it, but the multi-avenue linear level design. I hope any new hl game is linear and has the traditional hp/energy system.

I don’t care enough about video games to need it to be some transcendent masterpiece. I just want it to be fun and interesting.

Fuck yes.

For how long though? Still doubt it's coming out. You can bounce back from losing part of your mod team but the odds aren't good and those are exceptions.

What happened again? Knowing its modding teams, Im very sure it had something to do with trannies...

You are right, they will call it

"Half Life 1.732 "

That will get the nerds talking

Mod lead, one of them at least, had some alt-right opinions that the majority of the team did not agree with. Obviously this lead to a good chunk or so leaving the team over it. So now we're left with a half-team and a new lead. They did give us a gameplay teaser atleast. But who knows, maybe they did that so people will obsess over that and leave them alone for the time being.

Also I should note that this all from my own knowledge and what I've hear so do your own research about it if you can. I know I sure didn't, because quite frankly I don't really care.

Isn't HLX/citadel a spinoff game? Not a mainline entry like a half life 3 would be? Or am I thinking about two separate projects.

Citadel was the original/dev title for Deadlock, from before even Neon Prime
I have no proof of this but I imagine the process went something like this:
>Valve creates a new multiplayer game using assets from Alyx as placeholders
>Devs start making a story around it and an identity starts being formed
>However, the HL IP just doesn't fit for what they want so they start going off towards Neon Prime's design
>Neon Prime design also doesn't work
>starts morphing into current day Deadlock

HLX is presumably titled like that because of how they also titled the ill-fated version of L4D3, which in datamining was named L4DX iirc. However I could honestly see them naming it HLX to both distance from HL3 and because it could be standing for Xen. The full title presumably would be Half-Life: Xen.
