he bumped it from three posts above you
it's confirmed now faggot
nobody knows when it will be announced or what it will look like but a new half life is on the horizon
When I said "nothing ever happens" I was refering to his checklist of events/when he thought HL3 was going to be released. No shit its going to be released, I just dont think its going to be in the big 2025.

I'm going to be honest, I think that killing Gordon would be a pretty shit idea. It makes sense from Valve's perspective (actual closure and maybe an intention to deliberately subvert what I'm going to mention) but Gordon has essentially become a larger than life character due to his inclusion in millions of mods and fangames.
It feels a bit like what Disney did with Luke Skywalker and the expanded universe.

G-man saying Alyx is so heckin kewl she could replace Gordon had all the meta subtlety of a brick. A sequel post-HLA was always going to be about getting rid of Gordon for the "superior" protagonist ala Last Jedi. Seeing as HLfags are so desperate they accept any fucking trash, case in point HLA turbo retconning Eli dying, which is as big a fuck you to people waiting for Ep3/HL3 as it could possibly get, they will happily lap up any slop that shits all over Gordon as long as they get a new game.

I half expect the Borealis to be the tutorial level that never gets mentioned again, just to get rid of that vestigial plotline as fast as possible.

Thankfully Epistle 3 isn't gonna be canon

I think it would really depend on execution. What Disney did to Luke had zero dignity- I think Valve could theoretically make it work if they wanted to, while retaining the player's dignity. Make it some grandiose thing where you have to sacrifice yourself to save the planet or something, and not something like Joel in TLOU2. I don't want this, but I think it could be done.

G-Man's interest in Alyx wasn't an HL:A retcon though, it was the seemingly natural continuation of plot firmly established in Ep2.

Didn't they only do this because Laidlaw published Epistle 3 in 2017, which spoiled story broad strokes and they wanted something fresh?

epistle 3 hinted on them passing the torch while ep1 and ep2's commentaries revealed that devs liked alyx, such faggotry was to be expected.
but if the devs at valve refuse to see the unforseen consequences that making half life not being about gordon after a few franchises tried to do the same fucking thing and failed miserably, not my problem and i hope they get fucked and fail miserably as it will be extremely well deserved.

I wouldn't mind if Alyx takes up Gordon's role and the price of Eli's safety is her lovers demise but that sounds way to cliché for Valve. As long as they get Merle Dandridge back to voice her.
