I think the idea is cool, but you can only do "Half-Life 1/2 but X" so many times before it gets old. I'd take a custom campaign any day of the week. Granted I know the idea is that its like HL1 but like completely different/HD/new/etc. but Black Mesa did the idea better like what? 5 years ago now? Longer if we count the mod version.
I think the idea is "Half Life 1 as I remember it being 25 years ago" but as I said, it just does not work. Granted HL1 levels are a bit sparse with the limitations at the time, but Extended feels more like Abiotic Factor.

Could you survive Black Mesa? I could, I would simply avoid all the monsters and calmly exit the facility.
>gets on an elevator
>dies
>walks on a catwalk
>dies
>walks down a random hallway
>vorts spawn both in front and behind
>dies
>tries to get saved by the military
>gets shot and dies

it's hard being a black mesa scientist

Just follow the evacuation plan, the red emergency lights, and the fire exists. It's literally a skill issue. Almost all workplace accidents are self inflicted.

which leads you right into the military's hands where they will promptly dome you, because no way in hell they aren't guarding all the remaining entrances that haven't been destroyed, by their hands or the xenians.

Also, even IF you escape you better bet the glowies are coming once you leave. So you'd better apply for asylum in a neighboring country. I imagine that's why Eli and Kleiner are in Europe before HL2.

As a well respected scientist and highly educated man, I would simply flee to Eastern Europe, get a cushy job, ride out the combine occupation as a collaborator, and then apologise to Freeman with a firm handshake. All will be forgiven, it's that easy.
