I would take Quest 2 with bobovr head strap over og vive. The wire and basestation things are the worst imo
I really liked the basestations myself. Mainly playing multiplayer shooters because I could whip the controllers behind me to shoot and it wouldn't lose tracking. With camera tracking being so popular now I get accused of hacking by retards so it's funny to dunk on them with older and superior tracking hardware. I'm a little disappointed it's been waysided.
It was also way better for swordfighting games.

You could probably find a used headset for 100 bucks or less, then sell it again once you are done
I was thinking about that, too, but prices range from around 250€ for a HTC Vive and 450-600€ for a Valve Index. Of course I could sell it again, but I'm not sure it'll be worth the hassle.

There's this thing where you can rent VR headsets, it's like 25€/month for a Vive 2. Maybe I'll just do that.

There's also a metric fuckton of porn.
I would consider that if I was still single.

Index probably isn't worth buying if you don't already have a basestation setup as those are the majority of the cost, I already had 1.0 stations from my vive so I found knuckles second hand and a standalone headset. But again, look for Rift S or OG Rift, or a WMR headset (you need third party drivers for those now, I think they are bundled with SteamVR), or a Quest 2 since there are a billion of them from Covid. The future of basestation headsets is up in the air now that valve has said they are discontinued and nobody else makes basestation controllers that are actually good other than the index knuckles, so the prices are way up after the Frame announcement from people panic buying, as the super high end headsets like the Bigscreen don't come with stations or controllers but require them to function.

So I decided I actually would like to play Half-Life: Alyx, but I obviously don’t want to buy a VR headset for just one game. Can anyone comment on the NoVR mod? Is it worth playing the game with that?
Me and my friends played it with the NoVR mod and liked it. Obviously it isn't the same experience or as good as it would be with an actual headset, but we figured that for a Half-Life fan, it was still a compelling and fun novel experience. If you can pick up HL:A on a sale, I'd say it's worth it. It's also compatible with several fun workshop maps.

HLX IS NOT HAPPENING TODAY - Reacting to TGA

I bring this up because McVicker's Discord jannies seem to have actually set up a contingency just in case HLX actually does get announced:

Which means that they (and McVicker) think there's enough of a chance of it happening to even entertain the idea. Of course though, they don't want to get people's hopes up.

This gave me a good laugh.

Thats exactly what they'd want us to think as to lower our guards so they catch us with our pants down harder than a white woman among illegal immigrants!!

IT HAS TO BE HAPPENING!!

Going to wait for Crowbcat or someone else to make a supercut of the highlights and cringe moments of TGA 2025 as watching the live stream on 1.0x speed is just a waste of time.
Unrelated but did Crowbcat recently delete some of his videos? His catalogue seems smaller than I remember.

Im starting to think the Steam Machine isint even real at this point.
When the GabeCube, headset and new controller start getting shipped, Valve needs to drop another banger of a video like they did when they made the Steam Controller.
The portal music and SFX just fit so well.
