I was selfishly hoping it'd be announced mostly because it'd spite Tyler and if it didn't we'll never hear the end of it, like now. I will admit, he did kind of sucker me with the megaman preamble, though the orchestra was a dead giveaway, and that one was a gut punch to other fans, sorry MML3.

The knowledge that HLX is in development is a win enough for me, and I very much doubt it wont be coming 2026. From what I can tell it was never gonna be TGA, and if it was it probably got canned again like Alyx.

The Shapiro tweet and the RTB reprint were surefire indicators that the announcement was supposed to be this year. I think @thhrang was right and the crisis with getting parts/not meeting price goals for the Steam Machine caused them to move the announcement back to next year when they can figure out, I don't even think the actual release date is changed.

Tyler is still not getting away from catching flak from this, and Gabe finder went dark a couple days ago it feels like. Boy I can't wait till its out and I don't have to get my info from cockteasers anymore.

I'm going to blame this on the RAM/computer parts market going haywire.

Mike Straw, reputable industry insider and senior editor at Insider Gaming, stated today on the Insider Gaming podcast that this is exactly what happened.

Every single Journalist and Creator who was told a date has had that date pass.
Mike was told Spring 2026 is the launch window for the Steam Machine and HLX, HLX is going to be a launch title for the Steam Machine, there isn't a locked down price on the Steam Machine yet due to the Ram price increase, and that's what has delayed announcement.

I enjoyed it for what it's worth when it released but the gameplay loop gets tiring real quick, no wonder it died completely like in a month or two.

It doesn't help that the touted fart cops mode had only one map that was so botched you could get out of it by crouching in a spot underwater, they had way too much emphasis on the chainsaw racing mode over the func_vehicle mode everyone was excited for and only one of the two or three chainsaw maps was remotely usable, the ricochet knockoff map they made for gun game was absolutely clowned on by the actual ricochet map so hard they manually removed the ricochet map from the gamemode's map pool, all the other gamemodes got left in the realm of "who cares" and within a week half the good servers went offline leaving everyone scrambling for the southern US server because the entire west coast was under the control of an absolute reddit power tripper that was banning people left and right and the NY servers that were previously the most active went down without a reason.
