Just to follow up, when it comes to last names, absolutely not because Arabs it's very important to keep track of your lineage so the only time you EVER EVER EVER change your last name is when you convert to Islam, this is why Muslim wives don't take their Husbands last names.

Now when it comes to first names, yes absolutely, most Twelver Shias generally avoid naming their children Aisha, Omar, Abu Bakr, Uthman, or Osman because they were the original major figures of Islam who went against Ali, the first Shia Imam so they curse them regularly.

It just occurred to me what kind of commentator Hasan is. He isn't Joe Rogan for the left; he's their Rush Limbaugh. Rush operated the way Hasan does; he had a radio show as platform for his views and he carefully avoided debating anyone or participating in any forum he didn't control. He was able to spin all kinds of absurd propaganda and never get called on it. This worked great for Rush in the 90s media landscape, but it's harder for Hasan when the Internet makes it simple to call him out for lying. People can debunk him without going on his show.

The amazing thing is that there's even a discussion about how much a media figure can rip on Jews before they get deplatformed. "Elon's Roman salute wasn't, like, a full-on Nazi salute." It used to be that anyone who crossed the tribe in the mildest way was banished from public life.

That said, I kind of think that banning Hasan could lead to more violence from the left. The big left-wing personalities could be acting like the control rods in a nuclear reactor, holding the rank and file leftists back from wanton fedposting. If big leftists get banned, the movement will have less and less guidance from people who have to worry about ad revenue and lawsuits. The Discord groups and polycules will go into an extremist purity spiral fueled by the dread of Trump and the suspicion that they may not be the inevitable victors of history after all.

Rush had at least one thing different from Hasan; he was able to interact with people who had opposing political beliefs. He played himself on Family Guy and allowed the show to make fun of his politics.

Hasan wouldn’t be able to handle minor jokes at his expense without throwing a fit.
