Oh wow, that animatic is fucking awful. Only one laugh and I'm sure that was canned!

Oh it was so bad! Like I said, there was only me and one other dude there that didn't come out of the back (and I'm pretty sure he was just staff taking a break). The previous talk had over thirty people, it was hilarious to watch Hayden's hopes die as he kept peaking out behind the doors and watching people filter out and no one come in.
 
Is it just me, or is the druggie not in this pilot? I mean, I might have fallen asleep during it, but still. Shouldn't she be like.. in it?
Aside from that, here are brief things I noticed from the pilot too.
-Shona is upfront the first and her personality is being trans. Like, really. She is "trans and proud" and works in an lgbt center
-Her parents, for some odd reason, seem to want her to be gay, rather than trans, instead of wanting her to be their son only. Also, what is up with the comment about her son looking better than her in a dress from the mom?
-Cameron could have a personality, but I didn't see one.
-I actually like Huey the most. He just.. seems the best of the bunch. The show should be about him.
-Mysterious voice guy is boring as hell to me.
-At least the story (aka, them moving together and being gamers. That's the story in total. Also trans person.) makes sense now, but this pilot feels more like it should have been the trailer in first place.

Few thoughts on the animatic:
  • "The Cake Is A Lie"? Really? What's the next episode going to be called - "I Am Error"?
  • Don't say acronyms out loud. Ever.
  • Shona has to elaborate on her trans-ness at the beginning of her stupid video because of course.
  • Do they not introduce Betsy until the second episode?
  • Much like Julie, Hayden uses his normal voice as Quilliam, so he probably won't get any other voice acting roles in the future.
  • I'm hoping those were pity laughs at Shona's tweets.
  • I heard no "Pew pew!"s after them. You're spoiling us, Hayden.
  • That last "subscribe to us" message seems like a failsafe if the show never makes it to TV.

Note how they had to put them into the animatic itself, because no one else would laugh at this stuff.

This one actually upset me. It has nothing to do with anything in the pilot, so why call it like that?

As soon as I saw "The Cake Is A Lie" I cringed outwardly, no cake ever mentioned in the video or references to Portal to even make sense of the reference. I suppose you could say that the "American dream" they were sold was the cake but that's stretching it.
They say in the vid that Betsy isn't introduced till episode 3.

This is the generation that thinks out of the box anyway, we wanted to mirror that with the animation. It's very subtle and I think some people who picked up on it think it's a mistake... (I can't hear this part) but it's not

The "badass" isn't allowed to say fuck? He really gets stuck with using duck instead? really? So edgy.

And did all of these people knew Hayden before they got their jobs? Were there even auditions for it then, they say there were but I don't know if I believe it.
 
@Kitlen You did a great job out there, Agent Kitlen. Was it awkward to be the only other person there, and how in the world did you manage to sit through it all without upping and leaving?

As for my thoughts on the animatic.. well, It most certainly wasn't engaging enough for me to sit through it all. I was actually only able to watch Shona's part, and I think I stopped halfway through Cameron's segment. They've just got to put more care into the other characters; this animatic makes me believe even more that they only really care about the token trans character and are doing this soley because they know a trans character will attract a certain audience. Y'know, as if it weren't obvious.

Also, I've got a rather interesting event that I experienced, but it requires coming off anon a bit; is there a place I can post it so people who aren't Kiwis involved in it can see? I was thinking of our parody group, but I didn't want to derail too much. (:_(

Those seconds of silence as they're desperately thinking of an answer was the funniest thing these people have ever put out.

Also, maybe it was because of the phone's microphone, but I didn't pick up any references to "cakes" at all, so not only is it a poorly shoehorned reference, but it doesn't even make any fucking sense.

The cake thing was somewhere at the beginning of the cinematic, iirc. The title card of the episode, I believe?

Putting it in the parody group wouldn't derail much, hell we might even work it in somehow, or you could make it super vague, but that might not work depending on the story.

Slight adjustments to their faces would work wonders with the design honestly. Because they all look like something a nub art student would do if they want to recreate Picasso's works.
