I was thinking about why Adam and the other exterminators have such blatant demonic designs, and came to the theory that perhaps they were all initially cast out of Heaven, but were given a second chance of sorts by being assigned the duty of killing sinners. That'd be my best guess, anyway.

I do think it'd make sense for Adam, at least, what with him being kicked out of the Garden of Eden in the original myth. Which brings me to the question of whether Eve also exists in Hazbin's universe, and if so, what role she'll play.

To be fair, Viv did note that Adam is supposed to be immature and cringeworthy, but I definitely don't blame people for not liking it. Pretty uninspired decision to make him a sleazy dudebro type to subvert expectations IMO. If Viv is really gonna lean this hard into the "Heaven bad" message then hoo boy.
They're going to be hard-pressed if that is the route they're going, because the alternative, Hell, has vending machines full of drugs and a news show apparently has a cannibal cooking segment. Even if Heaven were corrupt, it would be hard for Hell not to be magnitudes worse, and from what has been shown so far, they seem to trying to portray some of the denizens of Heaven as jerks. It makes me wonder if they might not realize the implications or if their moral compass are that misaligned, "Sure cannibalism, murder, and drugs are bad, but a misogynistic attitude is worse!"

Am I the only one who actually kinda likes Deerie? Not morally, necessarily, but just personality-wise.

Why would you like her? She's PURE EVIL! You weirdo!

She's literally Bill Lumbergh as an angel. What is wrong with you? I demand an explanation.
Deerie is "likeable" in that she's kind of an archetype of that catty passive-aggressive DMV employee/HR bitch many of us had to work with. Deerie is a low-key insidious evil character who's also banal on the surface compared to the more explicit evil seen in the HH/HB universe. I may be giving Viv too much credit, but having characters act like evil bureaucrats with passive-aggressive faux-politeness is kind of a subtle-cleverness and makes me think of characters from 1985's film "Brazil".

Whether Viv meant to make Deerie this clever or if Deerie is just an unapologetic self-insert she sees no issues with changes nothing. If it's the latter, that would be hysterical to be honest.

Yeah Deerie is very Brazil esc a stereotypical bureaucrat who dresses up their obstinate actions with smiles.

That also undermines the entire point of Hazbin Hotel, that being Charlie trying to redeem the denizens of Hell so they can go to Heaven. Having Heaven be just as bad, if not worse, just undermines the entire storyline, making it pointless. It also means we have nothing to really contrast hell with; every place sucks in this universe, including Earth. And that's just boring.

Unfortunately, I feel like that may ultimately be the point, if this is indeed what Viv is working towards. Charlie will find out that Heaven isn't what she imagines it to be and become distraught at how corrupt it really is, then realize that redemption is meaningless/Alastor was right all along and everyone is probably better off in Hell.

I hope I'm wrong, but...

The reaching continues.

EDIT: image loading is shot atm but someone is accusing the show of being antisemitic because there’s a short fat character who’s greedy.

Seriously.

It's just like looking at monkeys and immediately jumping to ANTI-BLACK RAYYYYYYCISM. If you look at a a short fat character who’s greedy, and immediately jump to anti-Semitism, maybe YOU'RE the one who's being subconsciously anti-Semitic? Just sayin'.

I'm kind of surprised Viv let Blitzo call Moxxie "retarded" in the HB pilot. I wonder if there were takes that had other word choices in case she decided to change it in post-production or wants to stealthily edit the existing video.

It reminds me of the nutjobs on rpg.net who claim orcs are racist because the first thing they think of when they see an evil, rage-filled subhuman monster is black people.

Since Eve is also the original sinner, she'll either be an AngelDevil like Adam or be a dollfaced puppet keeping shit together like Charlie.

Seriously.

We're recycling old stupid nitpicks now? Damn enviromentalists. 🚬

They are not wrong to make that connection, but its still shows how these "progressive" types are far more racist than those they call racists.
Obligatory Stonetoss comic.

my disappointment is that it looks like Heaven is not going to be very interesting to explore, it's implied that it's just a boring place with lots of rules and not, you know, THE Paradise of eternal bliss that everyone wants to go to. And end up making the argument that despite all the violence, rape, torture and murder on every corner being inforced by its Aristocracy class, Hell isn't all that bad.

besides the fact that the only recognizable name of Heaven is Adam being an archangel, and the other angels' names being generic or sexual puns. while Hell has all the Princes of Sin and The Demons of Ars Goetia as major figures.

Another disappointment is Lucifer who seems like he's just an awkward father with an unhappy marriage trying to get closer to his daughter (sounds familiar) who instead of trying to conquer Heaven and take God's place he just tried to change things, and got kicked out without cause a war.

you have to wait for the final product, but having a story about redemption where the lesson is "you don't have to change you're fine the way you are" in Hell would be something very problematic

If you've ever read the Divine Comedy, Heaven is the absolute dullest part of it. I can't think of a single fictional portrayal of Heaven that sounds like anywhere you'd want to be.

Although it doesn't depict heaven directly, I think the preview given in The Great Divorce makes it sound not so bad.

In THIS context though, I actually think there's a way to do Hazbin heaven and make it interesting. Think about it in terms of Angel. What's his main problem in hell? That his pursuit of freedom has actually made him a slave to his vices. I think what heaven needs to be in the Hazbin universe is a place of REAL freedom. It can still be sweary and funny and full of energy, but without the conflict and power struggles of hell. It needs to be a place where people can be what they really are without being bound by sin. It's a tricky balance, and based on CHERUB I don't think that's what we'll end up seeing, but I think it could work.

The only example that I can think of at the moment is the second Bill & Ted movie. I wanted to show the scene of where they find Station but it seems the only clips on YouTube are when they enter Heaven and talk to God.

Edit: Another one I just thought of was "The Hunt" episode from the original Twilight Zone. I apologize for the colorized clip. It was the only one that had the ending in full.

I should rate you a fedora for being one of those people who move the Bible to the fiction setting. :semperfidelis:
It is more referring that the bible is the original source of what Heaven can be like, the rest is fanfiction. And the bible is not even descriptive, it is just a place of eternal happiness with everyone close to God

we already have a depiction of Hell being just Earth but shittier, but not that much and getting out of Hell is relatively easy
now we have Heaven being Earth, but more boring with no incentive to go there beyond having no exterminations.

in HH when someone dies they don't go to a place that reflects their actions in life, they just go to another world by arbitrary rules so the incentive to change places doesn't have any weight. even the exterminations have no weight since no one but Charlie cares and everyone mocks her for it, and demons take advantage of weapons left by angels

demons have more problems with other demons than with angels, so it would be a better option to change Hell rather than leave it. or just go to Earth with disguises since Heaven doesn't care

It's because I specifically said "fictional portrayal of Heaven."
