So if Chai's to be believed (Which I'm inclined to say they are, considering they've been pretty credible before.) HH's finale will be handled by Spindlehorse while the animators get paid $35 a second. I'm not sure if "final episode" means the SEASON finale or the SERIES finale, but if it's the latter, then I think we can assume the one season got split into two if it's really getting 2 seasons.
Considering people are getting paid just under 3 bucks a frame, it's actually a minor miracle the animation looks as good as it does, since that's just a notch or two above 'produced in a Chinese sweatshop' tier.

Now imagine if Viv only used Broadway VAs for singing segments and used that freed up budget to make the animators feel well compensated for their work and more inclined to do a good job as a result, the end result could be something legitimately great. You could even use the supporting cast more often because they would be voiced by actors who could be inexpensive when they're just talking normally.

On the finale note I'm pretty sure they're talking about the S1 finale, Viv and Adam are definitely the type that would be huffing Copium that Hazbin will be renewed for a third season.

Probably because Viv is part of the Tumblr generation that made Lucifer into a uwu boi who did nothing wrong to get back at their parents for taking them to church on Sunday and the 2000s era evangelical Republicans. I will take a wild guess and say that this "root of all evil" character will be the actual tree of the knowledge of good and evil from the Old Testament that causes Lucifer to trick Eve into eating the fruit or tricks Eve and Lucifer takes the blame.
I am still catching up wi the thread, but I feel that, in the above context, Viv will make God, no the tree itself, the bad guy. One popular idea that comes up every few years is that God, by creating the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, telling Adam and Eve not o eat from the tree, creating the serpent, and letting the serpen temp them, all while having the knowledge tha they will choose disobedience, is the true originator of sin and is ultimately at fault.

Here is the lates twist on the idea:

An anonymous ask on Chai leaked the song titles for Hazbin Hotel:
https://www.tumblr.com/chaifootstep...han-public-song-information-from?source=share (archive)

While not a leak, I think this post is quite chilling. It explains how Viv will always have an onslaught of young naive animators who - as the Anon states - have recently turned 18 and have not had much experience in the industry, thus allowing her to further exploit more young animators by paying them pittance. I recommend reading through this account if people want to see anonymous users dig into Viv's psyche. It's kind of interesting (if not a biitt reaching sometimes).

my God, they actually look like....fantastical creatures from Hell, and not Hot Topic Tumblr Sexyman rejects?!

Goat Charlie is honestly such a missed opportunity.

Charlie and Nifty are the leading designs I like from that list. Having green Vaggie as a main character might be too much, though. Perhaps having her be blue or purple would've worked better to match the environment more; I think it would fit her personality and aesthetic more. The direct complementary color (red/green) could be nicer to look at, It needs more of a buffer to pull off, like perhaps more whites or even soft pinks/grays for all that vomit. The moth idea is cute, though.

They look more like fairy tale creatures than demons to me. Mainly because these designs aren't intimidating in the least.
They look more like completely generic furries to me. As samey as the designs can be, at least only the hellhounds are blatantly generic furry design.
Am I the only one who shudders at how much these looks like fursonna?

Regardless of what anyone here thinks, you already know Vivzie's gonna throw a fit over this. At least AD's redesign makes me feel slightly less uncomfortable.

Since I look at this thread frequently enough and have a strange fascination to see how Hazbin turns out, I'm finally taking the time to get through HB when I previously stopped after the CHERUB episode released. I'm now through with season 1 (not including the weirdly-offset episode 8 ) and am feeling indifferent overall, possibly because I'm already vaguely aware from this thread of the eventual emphasis on gay drama. Knowing this, it seems to me that the dramatic shift starts right after where I stopped before with Striker's scheme and the fight against him being portrayed very seriously, and then the following two episodes making their "big moments" about drama. It is a bit strange to have this in the same show as wacky cartoon hijinks and violence with such ridiculous-looking characters, especially Blitzo as somebody else here recently pointed out. Thinking on cartoons from twenty years ago that I'm guessing Viv was similarly raised on, I don't recall cartoons with a comparable level of wacky comedy like Powerpuff Girls and Fairly OddParents ever delving into drama, leaving that for cartoons that are more down-to-earth like Hey Arnold or Doug.

It's also peculiar how I look back at the reception here to the latter season 1 episodes at around page 100 to find people being generally positive about them.

Lastly, I'm definitely getting the impression that I should assume every male character to be gay unless shown otherwise. Striker remains unclear, but there were definitely gay vibes going in that close-contact scuffle with Blitzo.

Definitely an improvement but good lord, you just can't make Angel Dust look good, that motherfucker will always look like a fag no matter how you slice it

The biggest problem is that not only is there drama, its romance and sex drama.

A bit of drama in wacky cartoons can work. Gravity Falls wasnt perfect, but the romance drama was usually comedic, and it didnt go much deeper than 'kid has unrequited crush on teen'. The drama the beanmouth gremilns had was mostly family drama or 'oh no something is trying to kill us' and it basically always stayed at least a bit comedic, usually a lot comedic.

Danny Phantom had some more serious moments, but the series only went to shit once it really started focusing on the romance drama.

Avatar was a pretty good mix of funny and serious drama too, but then the sequal sucked, for a large part because it had way to much romance drama.

Severe Romance drama is almost immediate cartoon/character death in many cases, its very hard to actually pull of.
Its just that Vivzie has basically no restrictions and no one telling her no, so she goes wayyyy overboard and in not very smart directions, and tbh shes just not very funny.

This writing style is very typical for tumblr girls, they're just now reaching the age where some of them can lead big projects like this. My dear homestuck may not have been a cartoon, but it started it very whacky, and when the author emotionally checked out and hired a bunch of tumblr chicks to finish it for him, it suddenly became very serious relationship drama with some attempts at humor. Looking at Owl House, you can probably expect to see more and more of this in mainstream animation, as severe shipping becomes less and less niche.

A lot of kids cartoons have humor that is way more clever than that in adult ones, because they actually have to work around restrictions and make actual jokes rather than just inserting a direct reference or some offensive shit and expecting you to laugh, also

Oh there were definitely modern cartoons that started comedic/action and took a turn for darkness and/or drama hard, especially post gravity falls. Adventure time is the most obvious one, owl house, amphibia, other gravity falls clones, Korra (compared to aang), Star vs Evil (huge offender), Steven universe, etc.

The difference is that those shows at least built something before they started shifting focus, while HB barely setup the groundwork and retconned the little it did, with viv revealing the pilot isnt canon anymore. You know shit is bad when fans considers the only episode that lives up to the title (cherub) to be "filler" since it's not about twinks being sad or traumatized.

I didn't start posting here until Season 2 came out, because I didn't get into the show until then. I remember seeing the pilot when it came out and thinking "this could be fun", especially since Richard Horvitz and Erica Lindbeck were voicing in it. Then I completely forgot about it until an acquaintance from one of my animation classes said that I should send my portfolio to Viv since she was hiring around that time. I watched the first season and thought it was decent. While I wasn't a big fan of the more dramatic parts, I could ignore the issues I had and put it up as either being a simple web series, or simply not fitting my taste in media.

Then, when I watched the first episode of the second season, I guess you could say my eyes truly opened up to the garbage before me. I realized that this show was going to focus more on the drama instead of the initial comedy, and that the person behind it was taking the story more seriously than it needed to be. And who would have known? I've been right ever since.

Oh, and if you want to know what happened with that acquaintance? I told them that I was too busy with my class work to take a job right now, (which was partially true. The other factor being that I didn't want my name tied to this show, but I didn't tell them that part.) I don't know if they're still working for Spindlehorse or not, cause I haven't talked to them since. But I will tell you, the people in my classes have poked fun at both Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel, including some of the professors. So, I think I made the right choice in that regard.

Could you elaborate on this?
Sure. It's hard to go down in specifics, but many of the common complaints for Helluva Boss was that the story devolved, the characters aren't very engaging, the jokes aren't funny, and that a lot of the character designs themselves are just too complicated and ugly to look at. We really took the piss out of Bee's design especially. One guy said he refuses to watch the show, cause even though the animation is good for the most part, there's just too much "gay drama". And I have to agree with him.

When the first trailer with Charlie singing came out, one girl said she couldn't finish it because she got nauseous from all the camera movement. We all thought that the camera work was probably one of the worst we've seen for an animated show in a long while. One of them theorized that the animation may have been stiff and subpar, so that's why the editing was so wonky so it could appear that there was more fluid movement in the characters themselves.

Professors wise, I can remember two specific instances. One professor, who is more of a comic artist than an animator as he works for the Sonic comics and has done a lot of cover art for them, talked about it because someone in class brought it up when we were discussing on style for certain series. This was before we got any reveals of the new trailer or screenshots of the show, so this was still based on the pilot's art style. One of the things he mentioned was how complicated all these character designs were and he pitied the people who would have to animate them, because it would be difficult to keep them all consistent, even if it was done in a comic.

The second one was more recent with another professor. I showed him a couple of character designs for the assignment I was working on and he told me to desaturate the colors more. He said that you don't want the audience's retinas to burn out and that "this isn't Hazbin Hotel".
