It really bugs me that the series kicked off with Adam almost immediately halving the extermination clock. He had a cause and a motive to do that, but I feel like that kind of "ticking clock" sensation would've been better off at the end of the season instead of the start. That way, they could've actually had time to introduce each character, their flaws, and their possible pathways to redemption (if they choose redemption in the first place). It would've also been the perfect way to introduce side characters to the main cast, by having them resolve individual conflicts (Angel vs. Val, the one-sided bond between Alastor and Husker, Vox and his obsession with one-upping Alastor, etc.) from episode to episode, in anticipation of a grander followup season where we get to see ALL these characters put through their paces in lieu of the incoming onslaught.
Also, if you're going to make Vaggie into Little Miss B-Plot, give her a single episode that goes over who she is, and why I should give a shit. Don't just squirrel it into an already established plotline when it's convenient; watching her uncomfortably trot through the pearly gates would have a lot more oomph behind it if we knew prior that she was angelic. It would also be interesting if Velvette had an actual introduction, and was the self-proclaimed "backbone of the Vees" while simultaneously backstabbing Vox & Val in order to give Alastor (who doesn't necessarily need/want the info, but appreciates the gesture) and Angel (desperately trying to get away from Val at any given opportunity) intel on what the monitor and the moth are doing so they can carry out their respective goals. By extension, this also would've meant she contributed to Angel's possible redemption as well as assisted everyone during the final battle by cockily coaxing Carmilla into giving up angelic weaponry.
For whatever reason, it blows my mind whenever women fail to write women, especially when we've SEEN Viv is willing to write most of them as conniving and two-faced. It's weird and overdone in HB, but underutilized here.
