Is it really that shocking for Americans to see functioning and active shopping malls? They're everywhere in Europe and thriving with business.
Actually it is. A lot of them, maybe even most, are ghost towns, literal deserts filled with empty storefronts, street people, schizos, etc. where people get mugged or worse in the bathrooms or even in the open areas, the food courts are disasters with open drug dealing, lots of cell phone kiosks where you just know they specialize in selling burners, etc.

That said I recently (for the first time in years) went to a mall that was really nice. A certain demographic was entirely absent.

A couple songs I sort of liked but then I realized I just liked the tone of the singer's voice.

Same, except also somtimes the opposite.

I liked the first half of Loser, Baby well enough, but god Angels squaky singing voice with the new va is grating.

Also, with a lot of them i liked the general sound of the song, but then every now and then there would be a lyric so bad and akward that it would just completely take me out.

Many of the smaller malls in my current area have all converted to doctor/general use office spaces. A mall I used to frequent as a kid/teen was overrun by the Latino population last I saw it in the late 2000s. It was closed to the public and abandoned last year.

Only the larger malls that have various amenities (movie theaters, casinos, arcades, sit-down restaurants) and specialized boutique stores are just barely surviving, it seems.

Dunno if this says anything about its cultural reach, but I'm at the local mall (yes, those still exist, and it is busy), and I saw someone with an Angel Dust T-shirt (it was a white androgynous woman, OFC)
I remember a couple of years ago seeing someone wearing an Angel Dust shirt in public, the person wearing it was male though. More recently, I saw fanart of Fizzarolli at a relatives middle school art show. I guess I'm not really surprised that the people watching HH & HB are children.

A family member randomly got me a Stolas T-shirt (that doesn't fit me well, so I never wear it), but it looks more like a generic Blizzard/Diablo-esque fire elemental cartoon:

Not really my thing, but there are far worse designs out there IMO.

To be honest, that doesn't look like Stolas to me, more like a generic fire demon, or the lava mountain spirit from the fire bird suite or something. Not a bad design though.

As much as Viv gets flak for her writing, the dialogue has become a standard in adult animation. Just to prove a point, I'd make a compilation of clips from R&M that go like "What the fuck Morty, get the fuck outta here Morty, you piece of shit Morty, fuck you Morty".

You could probably do the same with the Holy Grail of adult animation that is South Park. The main issue is that HH/HB bases it's entire humor on just that, whereas South Park bases it's humor mainly on satirizing American society, and since all good humor has a victim, South Park wins, since Vivz is too safe edgy to ever offend anyone.

Hell, even Kapitan Bomba has had a lot of good satire on Polish society despite being full of excessive swears and sex jokes. And the amount of sex jokes in that is much greater than in HH and HB combined.

It's fairly well-known within fandom circles, but mostly for the wrong reasons. I honestly think it's missed its intended niche.

To me it seems like Viv was shooting for the cultural equivalent of, like, Homestuck or Warrior Cats -- that is, lore-heavy series obsessed over by weird artsy kids -- but, through misunderstanding what made them actually interesting, ended up with something primarily enjoyed by greasy man/womanchildren stuck in arrested development. All the people I've seen repping HH/HB in public have been in their twenties or thirties, whereas the younger creative types who would typically eat this stuff up and keep the fanbase alive don't seem all too interested. I'm yet to come across any cringe DeviantArt-tier Hazbin Hotel OCs or fan animations online, and that IMO seems like a fairly damning indicator of failure. It could've easily been the New Thing if it was written a little more competently.

On the topic of European animations that are way funnier than Hazbin Hotel:

Note how the exchange between Maya and Coco at the beginning was able to make effective use of sound effects for comedy (the pop sound when Coco breaks her computer gets me every time), unlike the Hazbin pilot which used Johnny Test sound effects every two seconds to the point you think they were trying to be ironic or something.

Of course, which is the pilot that actually got picked up and turned into a full series
(:_(

Fuck this gay earth.

Now that you say it, on most art accounts of cringy 14-16 year olds ive seen, theres like 1 or 2 fanarts of hazbin from shortly after it came out and quickly was forgotten about again in favour of whatever else fandoms.
I think the amazon paywall especially doesnt help, ive seen a bit more about helluva boss

On the whole HH seems difficult to actually engage with creatively. It almost feels like a crudely-written fanfiction of a much better show -- as if Viv built up a genuinely interesting world populated with well-written characters, then, instead of leaving the fanbase to think up retarded alternate storylines or steamy yaoi fanfics on their own, just wrote them all into the lore. The audience's work is finished for them, and that makes the show fundamentally uninteresting, because there's nothing left to do.

Malls in America experienced a massive boom at one point which caused them to be overbuilt and now a lot of the redundant ones are dying out while functional ones are doing fine. Doing a quick search the smallest state in America, Rhode Island is 0.87% the size of Germany in land mass, and 1.3% in population, while having 81 malls to Germany's 1783 malls, which means it has 4% of the malls Germany does.

Swearing isn't new in animation, excessive or otherwise. Heck, I'm sure you could come up with a compilation of times Bender says "kiss my shiny metal ass" from Futurama. But then there are also compilations of actual funny moments from Futurama because it doesn't rely entirely on a character swearing for a gag or punchline. Even in something like Rick and Morty or Southpark, the swearing tends to have a bit more humor behind it, with the joke being "kids don't normally swear/people don't normally swear at kids" Even if it's done "right" I wouldn't exactly call it the height of comedy, but again, it's not really what makes shows like that funny. If Hazbin was funnier or more entertaining, the excessive swearing would get less flak overall, but right now, it feels like all the show really has to offer is excessive swearing or songs.

FUCK I forgot how in the South Park movie, kids swearing was the main fucking plotline of the movie and yet it's a classic because it wasn't the only source of comedy.

And I'm pretty fucking sure I already made that argument in this thread.

Yep.

I’ve seen a good amount of Hazbin fan art on Tumblr, some of it is genuinely good. Most is made by women their late 20/early 30s and there is a focus on storytelling rather than shipping, which is…unusual. Perhaps it’s because Viv left the fandom with so little in terms of characterization, who knows. Alastor is the fan favorite and there’s a little animosity towards artists who are drawing him white instead of black as tar with dreads, but the latter are actually in the minority.

But here are some of my favorites:

Delta Chinese too? Also lol stemming, but I’ll let that slide since Alastor being a sperg makes a semblance of sense.

If I were a fan artist I’d stay away from Hazbin as well. Not worth the drama considering that these sort of properties draw a specific demographic, and after the meltdowns SJWs had over Steven Universe and Owl House I wouldn’t touch this shit with a ten foot pole.

So wait, if Alastor is at least white-passing (by 30s standards too) (and most fans imagine him as just some white dude), and Husk is probably black (at least, most fans ive seen assume he is), and Alastor has Husk as a slave...

Another unfathomably based move by Vivziepop.
The funniest and most notable parts of this show are definitely her dumbass actions and the messed up adult fans (verbalase)

It almost was despite that just on the merits of the pilots. I think most people expected it to go to shit based on Vivzie's history, but not before the first "real" episode was even out.

For me it's the sex jokes feel like it was written by a virgin and swears by someone who just turned 14.

It's so funny to me how people unconsciously headcanons characters who have set of caracteristics that would be considered racist if it was canon, like Husk being black because... He likes booze, he looks unkempt and he is a slave? Same for Darwin from Gumball who is seen as black representation despite the fact that the character is originally a pet fish (and I don't care that's because his va is black).
