Also, I've seen an anon bring this up on /hhg/, but I feel it's worth mentioning how the leaks paint Alastor & Vox's rivalry in a new light – a conflict of hard work vs nepotism
To start with, let's look at the nepotism side, represented by the Radio Demon:
- the leaks show that Alastor's strength wasn't "earned", but rather, handed to him through a deal he made with Rosie
– this deal was for him to become the strongest Sinner in the Pride Ring, in exchange for an unspecified favor (which he failed to fulfill because he died like a bitch lol)
– naturally, when Al gets to Hell, he immediately starts running wild with his newfound power, like a kid playing around with cheat codes
– however, he eventually starts getting bested – Vox beating him led to Al's seven-year absence, and it only gets worse from there
– Alastor gets effortlessly felted by CHADam, and cucked out of most of his power, as it was contained in his broken staff (the fact Al had no precautions for this means he must have been taking his power for granted)
– the S2 leaks show that Rosie has him running errands for her, then Lucifer basically bullies Al out of the Hotel, only for the Radio Fraud to get caught by Vox once again
– also he's a black man (possible subtle commentary on diversity hires getting jobs they aren't qualified for?)
Meanwhile, the leader of the Vees represents the hard work side of the argument:
– had a similar occupation to Alastor, being a popular media personality that charmed millions across the nation and/or world
– presumably had no outside assistance when he got to Hell, and had to use his natural cunning & charisma to ascend to Overlord status
– has a bond with Valentino & Velvette that may or may not be genuine, in comparison to Alastor being an autistic wannabe "lone wolf"
– Vox' hard work is shown to pay off, as he bests the Radio Nepo-Baby not once, but twice
– also he's (presumably) a white man (continuing the "diversity hire" analogy, Vox is the employee that earns his position through merit and is actually qualified for it) plus the leaks show he breaks in the zesty Radio Buck
Based on this information, I can safely conclude that Vox is going to be the real hero of Season 2 (and so will Lute, but that part is obvious). Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Enjoy these memes:
