Now that you mentioned it, Alastor being a wolf or fox is more fitting since both are predators and the fox is depicted as cunning in stories. Maybe Viv made him a deer to invoke the wendigo only to realize that mythical creature is not part of New Orleans folklore and had to make up the "Alastor was mistaken for a deer by a hunter" explanation to fix it.
Im pretty sure the Wendigo thing was on the table, since the guy was originally a serial killer and canniball (which I wonder even if that thing was kept or was removed. Since, sure we saw him eat the lonesharks, but I dont think the canniball thing was ever confirmed, hell we even see him eating a deer in his room)

But do you guys think that there is a general hatred for being human in either HH or HB?
I'd say there are definitely traces of that in Helluva, given how the main characters (minus Moxxie) seem to look down on humanity and see them as monsters – I think it was in S1E1 where either Blitzo or Millie tell Moxxie that "all humans are fucked up, so it's okay to kill them" (roughly paraphrasing). Then there's the first Verosika episode, where innocent people are killed by the dozens.
There's also the way DHORKS – by all means, heroic characters with the respectable goal of protecting humanity – are treated as disposable antagonistic mooks (with the exception of Agents One & Two, but they don't fare much better).

Hazbin, in comparison, presents a more balanced view on humanity – sure, Adam is presented as a genocidal psychopath, but there are a myriad of reasons as to why he could have become that way; also, Sinners are technically humans too, just transformed by Hell, and many of them are treated by the show as (theoretically) worthy of redemption; with the exception of the biggest assholes like Valentino, Vox, etc.
Besides Adam (and Saint Peter, I guess), though, we haven't really seen any human characters yet, so we'll see.

Considering how much people were going “meh meh muh closed religion” over Alastor using voodoo, I can only imagine the backlash if he were canonically a wendigo. Thanks to so many misconceptions, such as thinking it’s a sacred spirit or mixing it up with a skinwalker, or just plain being a Native American thing, a lot of people will jump your ass for using one in your story.

I'll just be glad when these are done and over with and Viv burns every single bridge. I'm tired of my normie online peers gushing about this show, when really, it's just one big gay bore now.
In my artschool it was like that too. Everyone loved Viv and would use her as inspiration. We had a guy come in use to work for Disney and made his own short that recently got really popular and used Viv as his inspiration and said they were friends. I was the one that got alot of peers disillusioned of her work and showed them videos and art she stole as a wake up call.

I guess why she got so popular at my school is because of all the LGBTQ+ themes. For some reason in my school it was heavily pushed as tons of peers just wrote cute gay fluff or their own gay stories like them coming out to their parents. Which in my opinion is overplayed nowadays.
My work on the other hand was very hetronormative, with realistic issues and was especially dark, which made my professors uncomfortable I think. As I was exploring the inner turmoil of humanity and the human condition.

Really, you can make a list of things that were scrapped or removed entirely. Alastor using voodoo and being a Wendigo; Angel Dust being in the mob and serving in WW2; Baxter drowning on the Titanic; Vaggie being from the slums of Rio...or was it Mexico; Nifty being Japanese; Husk being Russian; Vox being a former televagenlist type or something to that extent, Adam as a motherfucking DRAGON.

That's funny because it's the opposite for my art school where it seemed like everyone, including a few of the professors would openly shit on Viv's work. I remember when the Hazbin trailer came out with Charlie's "Happy Day in Hell" song, and a group of us were making fun of how terrible it looked. One girl couldn't even watch it because the camera work was that nauseating.

And it's not like this school was any less progressive than the other art schools. Many people there that are LGBT+. It just shows that having those themes in your product isn't going to be the sole reason why you stay afloat. Maybe at the beginning, but it won't last.

I want all of those things...

It's mainly the peers who were into it. None of the professors had known of it till their students mentioned it. I feel like my school it was very extremely progressive, which is saying alot because it's a blue state (and always has stayed on regardless of elections) it's a very white school. And as a minority alot of my work was criticized because it dealt with issues of race and prejudice and professors told me it might make others uncomfortable, which was saying alot because it's not like the words or anything really hurt them as a white person. My work often dealt with trying to keep historical timeperiods accurate and how people were treated in early America.

But others could draw explicit gay porn and things of the LGBTQ nature and the professors wouldn't bat an eye and praise it for being nuance. We often had reading of just queer perspectives, with little unique perspectives or something created for the sake of just and entertainment/ technical standpoint. Which would be infuriating at times.

All of this could've likely been brought into fruition if Viv didn't have the unfortunate habit of slapping faggot labels on the characters. From a general audience standpoint, it's not surprising that they're concerned about how it's gay people in hell getting the focus. Had all of them been straight characters, no one would be having a problem.

I believe both Viv and the complainers in audience are both wrong, because in fairness to Viv, she has already clarified they went to hell not for being sexual or lgbt (not sure, but I think she said it) but because they have done something seriously bad. Makes sense. You think a mafioso that has killed innocent families, regardless of gender, should go to heaven? You think a man who is constantly bad to others, drinking, and gambling should go to heaven? You think a FUCKING SERIAL KILLER should go to heaven?

Also, what these people are missing is that 2 of the main characters are addicted to substances: Angel Dust and Husk. In the Bible, there's a teaching saying "the body's a temple" or something around those lines, generally saying we should care for our bodies. Those two failed to do that and walloped in self-destruction and did bad things to others. That's why they're in hell.

Hard to believe it's been almost year since the series came out. I still vividly remember checking this thread and /co/ for all the leaks. It was crazy. At this point, I feel it's for the best that I move on from following Viv's stuff for now, especially given her show ultimately didn't really make the kind of dent I thought it was going to 5 years ago, and honestly, I feel that's for the best.

Its kinda funny how Husk seems like less guy who should be here, like even in the new version he was a gambler and drunk but because he lost his wife'n'kid in a hit and run, the old version I think he was a small time loan shark or something (it was def something to do with crime, as one of the removed episodes was him, Charlie and Nifty going to a carnival and Husk admitting he forgot how to even have fun, since he did so many crimes before), but when it comes to others -Angel Dust being a mobster, Alastor a serial killer, Cherrie Bomb being a mad bomber (FYI I think she was supposed to be former IRA originally)- the guys entire apperance there makes ya go "Wait, WHY are you here?" Kinda how with Pentiouses current backstory.

It'd have made sense if Husk was a gambling addict who was so addicted to the point of extreme violence like BossManJack (a gambling YouTuber who keeps on raging and is so rude to his parents and I think he actually got arrested) and he has realized too late what that violence has led him to - Hell. So now, he just prefers to yell or mutter because he's so jaded.

Like, ok, the hit and run was bad, but what? Does that compare to the magnitude of Angel being a mobster who killed and tortured rivals or Alastor being a literal serial killer?

BTW, I don't know, but Cherri was not IRA. I think she was Australian and was protesting in a riot then died in an explosion.

Pretty certain that all backstories, with the exception of Pentious and Alastor thanks to the leaks, and broadstrokes to Angel, are little more than fanfiction. Don't know where people are getting a hit and run being tied with Husk's backstory or Cherri being killed in an explosion during a riot.

Also I'd put money on Angel's Mafia ties being extremely downplayed whenever his backstory plays out, because we can't have the audience remotely feel that he's getting his dose of karma with how Valentino treats him. I'd also put it to a coin flip if it's revealed all of Alastor's victims had it coming for mostly the same reasons.

Just look at what Pentious' backstory is, instead of him actually being a scumbag who earned his spot in Hell, his big Sin is that he didn't snitch on Jack The Ripper because reasons.

Viv decided to make Cherri shortly after her pilot VA already recorded her lines. The initial plan was to have her do a light accent or to have slip out on occasion to explain why she didn't have one in the pilot...

*Australian. My apologies. Though I wonder if she's supposed to be an Australian Latina now given her series VA is Latina, seeing how one of the reasons Viv gave to the pilot cast on why she replaced them was because of the characters' diversity.
