Sorry for the double-posting, but I think found another plot-hole in Hazbin. In the first episode, Charlie is confused when she realizes that Adam isn't actually down here, he says "no, you'd think I come down here" and then expresses how much of a bummer Hell is.

To me it sounds like Adam doesn't go down to Hell at all, but then in a later episode we see in Vaggie's flashback that Adam is there during the exterminations. I don't know; maybe I'm overthinking this, but it does seem contradictory.

I think there's a distinction between Adam going down to Hell when he can't even kill people compared to when Adam goes down to Hell and enjoys killing people.

It's like forcing a hunter to go to a game preserve but they aren't allowed to hunt. So it makes sense to me.

The bigger plothole from that is the implication that Lucifer has regular meetings with the people of Heaven who decide the exterminations yet never once questioning why in 1000s of years.

Now, I would agree with you except for as I mentioned, the line when Adam says "you'd think I come down here?" It very much implies that Adam himself would never go down to Hell whatsoever.

If they just reworked the line itself or removed it completely, I probably wouldn't be so hung up on this issue. But this is the case for a lot of the dialogue in both Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. I could probably make an entire list of characters saying things that don't make sense based on previous or future things that happen.

Yeah like it wouldn't even be a big fix just add two words

"You'd think I would come down here now"

Since it sets that he only comes down for the sake of killing, but a lot of lines in Vivzie's shows would either not make sense due to just sounding awkward, contradicting later scenes, or rely on pre established lore/Vivzie's Twitter to make sense of the actual intent

Reminds me of Lucifers fucking line something like.. "Charlie, Heaven isn't entirely as carefree as you might think"

Such weird and clunky dialog.

One of my favorites is when Blitzø sees Stolas going to the hospital and then says "he can get hurt?"

...

BLITZØ! You know Striker has an angelic weapon on him that can kill Stolas. That's why you stopped him in the place. Do you think Striker just kidnapped Stolas for shits and giggles?

Alright, this is probably a stupid question, but it’s been itching at me for a bit. I’m planning on playing Borderlands 2 very soon, which absolutely has a lot of violence, vulgar humor, etc, etc. I just keep thinking…why is it that when, say, Handsome Jack is a foul-mouthed asshole I think it’s funny and endearing, but when Vivzie’s characters do it, it’s just annoying? There has to be some kind of formula here, right?

I think it's because it's Repetitive. Like all the characters into Viv talked the same/ have the same voice (writing wise) Jack is made by several other people so they all balance him out and make witty dialog.

I think its because Vivzie has almost every character do it and swearing is pretty much the punchline since Vivzie thinks saying fuck is funny.

It makes characters like Charlie, Emily, Alastor, and Satan stand out more as while they have the occasional bit of cursing, its rare that it makes them stand out more because they don't curse as much.

Some of her characters cursing works yet doesn't, like Mammon and Adam are both intended to be pretty repugnant assholes so them swearing like sailors is fine, but everyone else also swears like a sailor which makes that trait not special.

To keep in short, basically Vivzie sees curse words as punchlines as people think just shouting racial slurs is the punchline since it boils down to "TEE HEE, I SAID NAUGHTY WORDS!"

Ultimately he kind of did considering he could just be called off like a misbehaving dog. I think the Striker from his first episode would have just said "okey then I'll do it for free."

I wish all of Mammons swearing got censored by clown horn honks like how it does when he says "cunt", that would make it actually funny

That made me laugh just imagining it, that would have been way better. Like how Metalocalypse is even funnier with the swearing censored out by that abrupt guitar riff every time

1-Jack has actually well written dark humor. The stuff he does has setup, pay off and real "edge". At one point he says "I'll literally pay you to kill yourself. Either call the suicide prevention hotline or jump off a cliff and be my bitch." and then an npc hears that and jumps in lava in front of you. If you call the hotline Jack calls you a coward and if you suicide he calls you a sellout. It's one of my favourite videogame jokes and only works in a videogame.

Meanwhile you can obviously tell Vox is not allowed to use the words "Kill yourself" to Pentius because it would be offensive. Every joke has this everpresent safe edgy aura that makes impossible to immerse.

2-Jack doesn't even curse that much and his cursing is not the joke. For vivzie cursing IS the joke or at worst the cue for you to laugh. And like other said, that simply never works because everyone swears in this show.

It's always unfunny swearing too like every spanish person yelling "CARAJO PENDEJO PUTA MADRE!" like it's her version of a laugh track.

If Vivzie wants every character to swear but wants to emphasize how more foul certain characters are going to be, this feels like the way to go since the censors can leave it up to the imagination on what vile shit could be said that it had to be censored.

Unlike that lame penguin "Slurs" joke she made in one of the shorts.

Speaking of the shorts, pretty telling that she considers the insane fujoshi girl's wattpad fanfiction to be foreshadowing with how it plays out straight.

Yeah, that and him having characters with differing personalities to bounce off of really does help a lot, now that I think about it. I just kept thinking about how stuff like the spoon story is infinitely funnier than Blitz yelling “fuck me in my tight fucking little asshole!”
Wait, I think you’ve got another point with the “cue to laugh”. There’s so many points where the swearing could be an arguably more immature version of that laugh track that so many bad sitcoms loved to spam.

Andrealphus: He ploted to have Stolas assassinated!
*everyone gasps*
Vassago: PUTA MADRE!

Blitzo: If i wanted to kill Stolas i would do it my FUCKING self!
*everyone gasps*
Moxie: We are going to FUCKING diiiiiee!
Blitzo: Wait all i'm saying is that i could totally FUCKING kill Stolas myself! But i didn't want to!

Satan: Axe the mouthy one.
Blitzo: Well moxie i did the best i could-
Moxie: You know he means you right?
*executioner appears behind blitzo*
Blizo: Oh FUCK me!

This is what i mean as "laugh track", you can't just have a joke you need the swearing to remind you to laugh. It's the FUCK version of marvel slop. Might as well say "He's right FUCKING behind me isnt he?"

I think what also worked about Jack is that he was intimidating actually. Like, ask yourself outside say Satan, Vox and Adam being 50/50, are any of the villains in Boss or Hazbin an actual threat?
Those three are probably the only ones that are allowed to still be actual threats even with their more laughable moments (Assuming Satan will remain consistent in future appearances). These are the only ones that at least feel like they are or can be real threats whether it be in the leaks.

But the only other ones I can think of that were actual threats that actually worked are Striker in his first appearance, John Waters in Ghostfuckers, and maybe Lute.

Then there's Valentino and Alastor who intimidated Angel Dust and Husk but either are a complete joke otherwise (Valentino) or spend their screentime trying to show off how cool they are (Alastor). Mammon also has a scene like this with Fizz but his threat pretty much diminished given Fizz just got out of the contract and has Asmodeus to protect him so Mammon becomes a comedic villain.

So really its only a small minority of villains, though there are villains I forgot to mention who are in Helluva Boss since that show has a more expansive rogues gallery and it became a soap opera so Vivzie tries to make these villains intimidating but it fails, and these are all the overarching villains in that show:

- Crimson who is hard to take seriously at all between his voice and how he got his ass beat in a later episode in a humiliating fashion while also being outsmarted by Chaz in his first appearance. We're meant to see him as this abusive father figure that overwhelms Moxxie yet he is a dumbass. This is probably going to be the template for Blitzo's Dad and Paimon later who are probably going to step up into villain roles.

- Stella whose more comedic and just a jerk who is unintentionally more sympathetic than the supposed good guy Stolas. However, we are meant to see her as this gaslighting evil woman who wants to ruin Stolas' life.

- Andre who is meant to be seen as this big brain mastermind yet is pretty pathetic and has plans that are stupidly convoluted that somehow work out. He's even stopped from killing the cast because Octavia threatened to tell Stella that Andre got humiliated.

- Vivzie somehow still tries to make Striker intimidating yet she also wants him to have funny moments in every appearance in Season 2.
