I dunno, I don't think providing a alternate product really counts as bending the knee to anyone. Its just a different design; it doesn't contradict anything established about either character, and if some sped wants to buy it over the regular one because the regular one "isn't affectionate enough" or whatever the Hell their problem was then like, who cares?
