Helldivers 2 - Hell is more diverse than ever as PlayStation's demographics continue to grow and change.

Bought the game tonight, watched Steam struggle for 4 hours to download and install 20gb, got in with my friend who's on PS5, and couldn't add him. Tried playing, after 15 min, got a server DC. Utter shit.

Yeah, it seems they're running some tranny servers that decide to randomly die out. Hope this issue gets solved soon.
Beside this, the game is genuinely fun, more so then I initially thought. When the servers work, I'm having insane amounts of fun and in later missions it feels like some scene from Starship Troopers or some WW2 movie where you storm the beach.
Add to this the occasional goofy ragdoll or funny physics like a grenade getting ricochet off an aliens tail animation and you have a recipe for lots of fun and memorable experiences.
I'd say try it out at least, and you can always refund if it's not up to your liking.

The social media propaganda worked on me for the game so I gave it a try. I call it a typical bubblegum-game: Very tasty at the beginning, but it gets chewy and grindy quickly. Like with all Co-op games, sessions depend on your random teammates and are therefore very hit-or-miss. There are no dedicated single-player instances except the low-difficuilty missions missing the more interesting enemies. Objectives are stretched out on a way to big map for that patented thrilling SHIFT-holding gameplay when running from place to place. The gameplay loop contains the typical mechanics designed for addiction: Unlocking things through rewards and fake liberation progress bars are supposed to entice the player to play more (in contrast of just playing for fun).
What baffled me the most are the time limits. What do they add to the game? Like always, the artificial pressure of a clock causes players to speedrun objectives as fast as possible, skipping the actual meat of the game: Shooten' shit and blowing stuff up. Get rid of them. Time limits always suck.

I feel this game would have made a better impression on me if it was more like a PvE-Planetside 2, having a very big map for every planet containing key strategic positions to be conquered or defended by a thrown-together group of self-organizing players. At this point, I feel already pretty over it.

What are the best ship modules to upgrade first?
I went with the one that augments the eagle strategems. They seem like they’re by and large the most effective options early. The ones that make the turrets have more ammo/have better tracking are probably very strong as well.

As for the maps being too big as someone further up mentioned, I feel like that might be addressed via the game adding combined arms over time.

I was dealing with a ton of crashes after the update whenever like anything dropped down, like a hellpod/support pod or even a big explosion. Turns out it was my graphics drivers.

Only had one case after where we sat during the dive loading sequence for like 3 minutes before calling it and alt-f4.

As for bile titans I had a fucking rough go of one but it may have been because it was specifically the elimination mission to take one out. I was on difficulty 4 and that fucker took several strategems and hits before dropping that it was like 4 minutes of kiting it.

Otherwise with the exosuit it seems 2-4 rockets to its face takes them out, variance likely based on if it's spitting or not with an open mouth. That was on a 7, so I'm thinking they're gonna tone the rockets down massively even if you only get 28 over a mission (after the temporary permit expires you get two suits per person, 14 rockets a piece)

I only have unlocked, so far, the ones that offer faster deployment and cooldown.
Eagle cooldown, faster Orbital, faster Sentry deployment, Emplacement (sentries, mines) cooldown

I'm still experimenting with stuff and I'm holding on upgrades until I either decide I really need something or settle on a preferred playstyle and loudout.

erm dumb question, how do I get strategems back after using a mech? seems like i lose the ability to call them

Currently there's an event going on where everyone no matter the level of stratagem loadout gets 1 mech per mission for free. You call it in and that's it.
If you have the mech stratagem bought and equipped, you can call it in three times total (currently, with the event gone it'll be 2 times).

That said it's limited to those amounts of call-ins per mission. There's no mech re-arming like how Eagle-1 rearms. So once you use up your mechs, you're done.

If you mean you can't call stratagems in at all, this is a bug I've seen every now and then. Open and close your map a few times and tap on the stratagem key, whatever you've bound it to. Once you hop out of one it just takes some finagling.

Like most thing in HellDivers 2 everything is a risk/reward. You can pop a titan with one shit of a overclocked railgun shot if you it hit it in the mouth while its spitting/mouth open.

Mechs can apparently also walk in deep water to help cut through the map....just don't get out of it.

Trying both enemy types I find robots so much more fucking boring then bugs. Feels like every game just does robots as an ez second faction.

I am going to remain a bug purist for now
What mission difficulties are you playing?
The factions require different playstyles and loadout. I find that when I'm up against the bots, I need to be more methodical and when I fight the bugs I'm like "AMERICA FUCK YEAH" with explodes and incendiaries everywhere.

Your post illustrates why bugs are more fun. I mean more methodical gameplay can be fun when your in the mood but covering the entire map in fire, shrapnel and the enemies squishy bodies is extremely fun

Also fucking assault rifle always seems to have 1 less bullet then I NEED

Again, it depends on what difficulty you're on.
There is a certain satisfaction in downing a Hulk in a single well placed shot, something you can't really do with bugs, since the fights usually devolve into pure chaos.
There's also the fact that you may like certain stratagems, that are usually dogshit against bugs, but work wonders against bots.

Not seeing my medals for either of the last two major orders I took part in, what the fuck is with this game? The gameplay itself is fun but I wish they'd get their shit together with the game service itself.

I only got paid for the orders once I had done a mission.
