They're not grunts, but they are just normal guys. They have no fancy special super soldier enhancements, they are just the most fanatical and suicidally brave Super Earth has to offer. In 40k terms, they are something more like Stormtroopers/Scions. In real life terms, they're the SAS Commandos/Navy Seals or whatever.

The difference is that Super Earth doesn't create these guys with intensive training, it just allows people who are crazy enough to volunteer. That self-selects for dangerous bastards. Every single time you die is canon. They have a pretty much 100% fatality rate.

Helldivers can also be recruited from the SEAF if they distinguish themselves. Also SE military doesn’t have much training mostly because most citizens learn how to shoot from a very young age and most jobs have something to do with arming the military. And the Helldivers are the most loyal and elite of that lot

It's funny the game is still so fucked after all this time. I had a lot of fun with it but their social media/whatever you wanna call the people who deal with the public are beyond retarded. I remember them dropping these very important missions and updates that had, AT LAUNCH, 100% failure rate because of very obvious bugs. It was clear they weren't even basic but testing their own updates at all before dropping them. It was so strange, I've never seen anything like it.

As for Arrowhead, the developers of the game, they have only responded with the generic "we don't condone harassment and are monitoring the situation" corporate talk.

They should be taking accountability, because fostering a community of mental patients is entirely their fault. People have been commenting on their unhinged community managers for years now and very few of them actually got fired. Realistically this is only the beginning. There's thousands of games with Discord servers such as this, both big and small, and the devs all partake the same parasocial tactics that promote the toxic positivity we see here.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if the DRG faggots end up assassinating a content creator for saying the rockpox update was AIDS (it was).
