At this point, I wonder if they released Highguard as a barebones game on purpose with the intention of weekly patches "fixing it" to generate word of mouth and an artificial reputation of caring about the players, or if they are desperately cannibalizing whatever content they had set aside for the upcoming Battlepass seasons.

Well, they copied a bit of every other game into it (but badly). Now they're also copying the Arc Raiders launch plan (but badly).

Arc launched with 4 maps, they released the 5th two weeks afterwards. They clearly had it finished at launch, already on the roadmap. There was a community event and minor story addition to unlock it, kind of similar to what Highguard is calling an "episode". I think this makes exactly 2 weeks after Highguard's launch as well.

Company men didn't tell the artists to make Mary Jane look like the lead writer.
Executives, managers, and directors approved it.
Neil Druckmann is a dev, not a company man.
Neil Druckmann was a creative director up through 2018. He approved shit. He became VP of the studio in 2018, again approving shit. He became co-president of the studio in 2020, again approving shit. He was a creative head in 2024, again approving shit. Nothing at Naughty Dog from most of the past decade including up through today gets out of that studio without Neil Druckmann's approval. You're right, he's not a company man. He's a soy faggot elevated to his position by his predecessors leaving, which is exactly what I said. If Neil Druckmann decided that Naughty Dog would no longer hire danger hair gender special retards, he could make that decision tomorrow and have it implemented(since all you've got to do with these people is tell them "sorry, but we're looking at other options for the position" and never state why.

The underlings are not some sort of automaton without free will. The successes and failures of a team are principally attributed to the leader, yes, but the individual members get their share of the praise.
I never said they were automatons. But the decisions of the underlings when it comes to gameplay elements, art styles, and shit like that do not get implemented without approval from above. If management doesn't approve, it gets rejected. If the employees continue producing shit that gets rejected, you replace them for failing to do their work.

I'm sure you have no problem with devs putting games on their résumés to make them look better to prospective employers, and you ought to realize that it goes both ways. You might ask what kind of blame do they deserve? Well, the answer is pretty simple, either they didn't know the game was bad and so they can be excused, or they knew but they wanted to keep their job, or they were okay with the state of the game. Ignorance is not plausible for any members of the dev team. Wanting to keep their job is fairly likely, but game dev is a job that people take for creative fulfillment, so staying with a bad company for this reason is not much of an excuse. If they were okay with the state of the game, then they have about as much blame as the leadership. The people who complain about the chuds on social media trashing their game fall into this last category, by the way.
Devs putting games on their resumes is not the same as devs with 15 flags on their bluesky profile screeching into the void about chuds. A normal human can accept that the final product is shit, take the paycheck, and move on. That doesn't mean they have to publicly state the game is shit and they knew it was shit, that would be idiotic.

The hiring of trannies, the approval of soy slop character designs, deciding on shitty gameplay elements, approving crap dialogue. This is all decision making that is driven from the top down. Not the bottom up. It's not any different in Hollywood either. If studio executives just said no to the faggotry, they could put a stop to it very quickly.

Honestly, you'd should have included the investors who are in on this. But in this case, Highguard's blandness started with the creative design team and ended with the execs who blindly greenlit this.

"decision makers" can definitely include investors. Again, that's why Ubisoft had to assign their biggest IPs to a spin-off because the chinese investors demanded it. That being said, I doubt mos investors would actually give a shit if the executives/directors/managers quit hiring retards and started producing profits instead. But when it's only faggots lining up to accept VC money, the investors are still going to gamble.

Uhhhhh, okay.

The worst part is that much like someone with locked-in syndrome, there are hints of a good game in here, screaming to get out.

I've played a bit more, and the servers seem to be evening out. We're probably around the numbers they'd actually prepared for now. Kai is fun to play, he's grown on me (plays similar to Ramattra from OW but if nemesis form was an ult, if that makes sense to anyone here.)

But it's still got insane issues- the maps are still too fucking big and things bug out at random. This update added ranked, and a dude who appears to be a werewolf. I... thought we had that. With the first dude. From the tutorial.

Ah well, time to go check out another shitty game I was waiting for updates for.

I just don’t get how ever consumer can almost always accurately predict a failure but studios and investors seem incapable of it.
The same reason someone watches a dozen other people lose at roulette before walking up to place their own chips on the table. You only need to get lucky once.
Neil Druckmann is a dev, not a company man.
He also doesn't believe video games need to be fun, so nothing he says or thinks should matter.

I’ve wondered if it’s self funded, depending on how good the pre-EA purchase stock options were some early Respawn members could've made millions off of the acquisition.
Yeah but even if you have the money you shouldn't fund it yourself, you get other people to chip in.

To add to this: when you're being hired by these creatures, you understand what you're being hired for. If you "always wanted to work in gaymes" and there's a DEI statement on the site and the manager is a tranny, you know you'll have to compromise or go work in trades. And unfortunately, getting paid to learn to program games is how game dev skills are acquired. If you are a based and redpilled producer in need of 50 skilled devs for your based and redpilled AAA game, you're not getting 50 conveniently freelance CrunkLords, most of your hires have to have gone through the woke company gauntlet colon.

I think we have a good chance to see the game dip into triple digits by the end of the month. I think it'll have another 3-5 weeks of support, then we'll hear about it going into end of life for a few months

High PIMP of the Internet Fleekazoid has dropped his Highguard review. If you're familiar with his content you won't be surprised how he feels.
I think this line accurately sums up the last 38 pages of the thread:
Games can succeed in a saturated market, but the incumbent has to fuck up and the other guy has to understand what hole he's filling. Arc Raiders is Tarkov for VR Chat players. Marvel Rivals is for people who are tired of looking at Overwatch porn. Highguard is a nothing for no one.
