I had been telling people privately there's no fucking way they didn't have some big money backer given the size of the team, the project scope, the way this came out of nowhere, and so on. I figured it had to either be the Chinese or the Saudis given the way Wildlight was so hush-hush with who was bankrolling this multimillion dollar endeavor.

At least we now know how they got that VGA spot.

I was going to say, is this not deliberate at this point? Are they not also pouring money into games (there was some random MMO from ex-WoW devs I think [this was NetEase pulling funding, are they actually different?]) and ripping it away and scuppering teams etc
Is it sabotage to make sure gachaslop stays winning? Is it deeper than just money? It still makes me laugh at least.

Maybe one should start asking questions about how much money these different games journo outlets are taking from Tencent considering how many tried to circle the wagon here. PC Gamer had, what, six different articles defending Highguard.

China funds bad, DEI games in the west while creating good appealing gachashit games in the east, making Chinese culture and output look more appealing in comparison simply because the Western video game apparatus is extremely unprofitable to begin with.

I can't, no. It's all been shit for the past few years every time they get defensive. I've even seen old-school deevs come out and criticize these clowns now. It's pretty bad when Soul Reaver devs aree bitching them down.
 
This is the source which supposedly broke the news first. The bulk of the article is hidden behind a paywall (AFAIK there's no way to circumvent a substack paywall), so there's really no way of knowing what other information is contained within.

Games journos continue to uphold their reputation of being slimy faggots.

Here's a summarization via another outlet, which doesn't add much but mentions TiMi Studio Group as the main subsidiary backing the game. A cursory search for their other projects is unsurprising.

I wonder when they'll realize that they could just pass Quinn a few hundred to suck off a handful of guys every few years to keep overhead low. It'd accomplish just about the same thing.
 
I just remembered that in 2024 the game awards featured a sand nigger named Amir Satvat and portrayed him as a poor, lowly guy trying to get those honest, hard working game devs (who were activist fucktards being laid off from their shitty games failing) back on their feet by finding them jobs in the industry.

After the show, people did some digging they found out he's actually a Tencent exec who staunchly pushes DEI. For the Tencent sand nigger and Highguard both getting free publicity at Geoff's industry circle jerk, I'm now wondering if Tencent is directly funding his game awards. I have a feeling Geoff is bought and paid for by the chinks.
