Much as I'd like to celebrate the fall of games like theses, I'd like to remind you all that everyone who worked on this travesty will fail upward. We will continue to have games like these, but if it means these retarded companies get laughed at and lose millions each time, I'm all for it.
This is why the AAA industry has taken so long to crash.

The fact the gaming community literally coined "Concord-Likes" to describe these sort of games that all seem to oddly resemble each other in essence and game design is a sign on the pitiful state of gaming. Where they dump millions of dollars and years of time only to show off something that doesnt match all that investment, thus raising the question,

"How?"

And the harsh truth of the matter is that the fault is both the higher ups and the devs, the former for using this as a money laundery scheme and the latter for being a bunch of cheap talentless losers, a lot of them hired to meet diversity quotas to get checks from you know who (yes, it is ok to hate on devs too, anyone that says you cant is an idiot).

And at least Highguard was free to play but others sure arent. Who the fuck is funding these games?!*

Seems like Marathon will be the next "Concord like", even worse maybe that this is riding off the name of a classic shooter from the past, really showing that the industry failed to grasp what made Doom 2016 (for over a fucking decade mind you!) work and how we likely wont be seeing more classics being given a new life in modern times and...maybe it is for the best.

This industry didnt earn the 70 dollars price tag

*Dont answer that, there are only those that know and those that deny it, thats it.
Ironically both highguard and concord were entirely the fault of their developers. It’s not like what EA sometimes does where they force a boutique single player developer to make a live service game (Anthem)

These games are to my understanding the result of a bunch of at best upper-mid team members from big name studios breaking off, making their own team and flaunting successful games (Firewalk was made up from destiny era bungie people, Wildlight from Apex era respawn). Again these people weren’t the core members of the team that made those games. The game director on Highguard was a fella called Chad Grenier. Grenier previously worked at Infinity Ward and later Respawn as a level designer/code monkey. Same with rest of the leads. Missing is of course the late Vince Zampella. These were the grunts just fulfilling the vision of the actual visionaries at the helm.

They usually have connections that give them easy access to investors. They pitch their game that follows current market trends, get the cash and get to work. Concord tried to mix overwatch with destiny and was late to the party, Highguard tried something even more retarded which was to bring Bed Wars out of Minecraft. Four to six years later the game comes out, the trends it chased are gone and the actual game lacks vision/soul as a result of lacking people who can rotate a photorealistic apple in their minds eye in lead roles.

Yeah, and the heroes need to be more racially ambiguous. Except the black ones.

Also the voice lines need more personality. Something like

- "Let's get it done, peeps"

- "Booyah, whaddap folx!"

- "Buttload of damage, coming up!"

- "Now THIS is e-sporting"
-" erm, THAT just happened"
-" did I just get a crit??!!"

Damn it already Concover. Now we need to know the most important stat. Who made more money Highguard or Asmongold?

Who was the former ign fag that was shilling for this trash
It's at times like this, when people are getting together to really rub their noses in their obviously shitty shilling and wrongness, that a person who didn't know better might feel a tiny smidgen of sympathy for journoscum. But I know better. So I join the gleeful rubbing-of-the-noses-in-the-shit-stained-carpet party. They deserve to be called out and mocked for lying so openly and brazenly. Again.

Copied because Blizzard is popular or copied because every faggot getting hired farted in Blizzard Entertainment making cartoony shit models that are parody even for World of Warcraft
Blizzard aesthetics are to vidya what CalArts beanmouth aesthetics are to contemporary animation.

Just give up and stop making these shit games
Making good games was never the point. Making profit was never the point. The point was to piss away money, let some retards play game dev for a little while, and shuffle everyone around to new projects and new companies to burn. It's destroying trust in American media so that westerners have to look overseas. If China is responsible for making all your video games, zoomers and millennials are going to be extremely hesitant to favor any kind kind of sanction against China. The average American wont give up League of Legends or Genshin Impact even if China has missiles on their doorstep.

As for the devs... they were absolutely talking this up as incredible. You have to understand that the western gaming industry is completely delusional, and is entirely divorced in what they think gamers should be vs. what the reality actually wants. they unironically tried to frame dissing the game as 'stifling innovation' when the only innovation is that they get paid more of the profits.
This, and this is the big difference between them and the Nips, they generally have at least a handful of people going "and make Dante do the cool thing" or "lets make an incredibly autistic Mech building and merc work simulator series" or w/e shit they think is cool and usually is.

I just can't understand how these devs can't even be FUCKED to just update game with the basic LAN support of games of yore after they make it so abundantly clear the only reason the game exists is for the fucking MTX store. They literally don't even care about their own game mechanics and art enough to preserve it. And this isn't even an MMO from what I understand, neither was Concord? Just team based FPS? It just exposes how soulless the games are.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're using some janky third-party (licensed) software for their server-side junk such that even if they yeeted the bullshit microtransaction garbage out of it, there's probably some faggy "legal" reason they're not allowed to distribute server binaries capable of running LAN-only. I don't doubt there's some kind of off the shelf junk for matchmaking and leaderboards and such, with their "secret sauce" mixed in as game rules logic (and of course cash shop API keys :story:).

This is one of the (few) semi-reasonable concerns (not really "objections," just "stuff wot might make compliance hard") people could have raised against Stop Killing Games if the greedy cunts opposing it had stopped counting shekels long enough to just point out "well, this soulless cash-grab is so tightly-integrated with payment processing, time-gating, consumables and monetization bullshit that there really isn't a separate 'game server' component so much as a 'store server our cash shop client connects to for transactions while periodically exchanging ancillary data like player position, etc. and making bang-bang-boom sounds when they don't click on a BUY NOW button' component." That's not a condemnation of SKG of course, more that modern games are designed with planned obsolescence in mind -- they die unless actively maintained by the owner of the cash shop.

There isn't LAN support. They never wrote it. It's literally a cash shop first and a light show second. And you're right -- it's pure cynical cash grabbing. They give zero fucks about this thing's preservation. They never gave a shit about anything but making some cash.

This is why the AAA industry has taken so long to crash.
But crashing, it is. I've never seen so many AAA devs struggling in the way they're struggling now. Before Concord, I'd literally never seen a big name console multiplayer title shut down so quickly, and now it's happened 3 times. The fucking Family Guy MMO lasted longer than Highguard, lmao.

>always online

More like never again online lole

Every concordian flop is a deadly nail in the AAA and this rotten fucking industry. I hope many more come.

This, and this is the big difference between them and the Nips, they generally have at least a handful of people going "and make Dante do the cool thing" or "lets make an incredibly autistic Mech building and merc work simulator series" or w/e shit they think is cool and usually is.
Nips are also actually willing to see that they fucked up and course correct while western devs are on that bossman grindset.

See Ubisoft vs. Capcom (Japanese Ubisoft). One is crashing and burning while the other is currently celebrating what might turn out to be the most successful AAA launch in recent memory.

This is just the video game equivalent of The Producers with embezzlement isn't it? Where these companies dump shit tons of money in the game, but secretly shuffle money away into hidden accounts and gobble up tax dollars.

It has to be at this point. I can see no other reason for this mass burning of money in what appears to be a cargo cult ritual to try and make money.
