Ok after dealing with it for a few days with Brave and no additional adblocks besides the default, I've noticed that it randomly pops up and at worst makes me wait like 5 seconds before I can close the window and I've never seen the strike system. Kinda annoying, but essentially ignorable for me. Are other Brave users experiencing this or is youtube blind firing the features and I just got lucky?

Also I do use the youtube app on my phone when I'm out and about so my account does technically get ads which might also be a factor
You really ought to consider ReVanced if you have an Android device.

For the moment the standard free "AdBlock" is trying hard to block.
Currently I will see the spinning wheel (as in a loading attempt) while in lower left corner the timer looks like " 0:00/0:30 ".
I've watched 6 vids this morning randomly choosing both creators I usually watch and small never heard ofs trying to see if it has to do with a sub list, high sub numbers etc. I have a "live" on right now.
So far no actual ads but on 2 of them I got a brief glimpse of the "skip ad" button before actual video started.
No ads have broken through mid-roll.
I'll let you all know if this changes.

Tried this, purged the cache and updated, video playback still blocked. Guess I'm using Freetube until there's a fix.
Ah shit, sorry to hear that. You should look into pihole, you don't need a raspberry pi to use it, and it'll at least be a useful stop gap measure until a more reliable fix is found for youtube anti adblocker

I've only been hit by messages on Firefox so far. For some retarded reason I only had Ghostery installed, nothing else. That was apparently enough.

I tried this and it is working, at least so far. Removed Ghostery, installed U Block Origin, etc. Probably one of those things that'll work until it doesn't. 🤷‍♂️ But for the moment, I seem to be good.

YSK: New method to bypass youtube's ad blocker detection / https://archive.ph/EWQos

Why YSK: To not waste time on advertisements

As you probably know youtube has a new method to "detect" the usage of adblockers. And since everyone wants to waste their time on videos and not on advertisements, follow these steps to go around youtube's new method and use adblocker.

Step 1: Turn off all browser extensions (which are related to adblocking and/or youtube) and remove (or disable) any ad blockers. After that restart your browser.

Step 2: Install the browser extension ublock origin.

Step 3: Go to ublock settings interface

Step 4: Click on the tab "My Filters"

Step 5: Copy and paste the following code and save the changes.

youtube.com##+js(set,yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)

youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

Step 6: Restart your browser and enjoy ad free youtube.

Extra notes:

If this doesn't work try the following:

Uninstall ublock and reinstall.Check for interfering extensions (youtube enhancers / adblockers)Empty cache

Enjoy :)

I do use Brave sometimes, will be interesting to see if you have to mess with their shields to get this to work, if it continues to work.

bizarrely, i use proton's netshield and i get the warning and I'm told playback won't continue until I "allowlist" YouTube, but then I just tap the spacebar on my laptop and it plays and the warning disappears. might be worth trying on other blockers too?

I think eventually it shifts to a message that you only have 3 videos left, something like that. That's what people seem to be reporting, I personally haven't seen it yet.

They seem to be fucking around with the release, only hitting some people on some browsers, I guess they didn't want the internet to explode if they'd done everything at once.

Has anyone else tried blocking the warning that pops up? That's what I did and YT has been fine for me besides having to manually start videos like in the old days. I'm using Thorium with uBlock Origin, Decentraleyes, privacy badger, and Enhancer for Youtube.

I've been using Brave on Windows 10, and if I just use the in-built Brave ad-blocker, that blocks the ads while bypassing the blocker. Turning on uBlock Origin blocks the videos, so I've turned that off for YouTube.

This seemed to work perfectly for me.
The fact that these codemonkeys put so much effort into blocking ad blockers and not fixing the multitude of problems with Youtube is one reason why Google will never see a red cent from me and I will continue blocking ads wholeheartedly.

Ive been using youtube enhancer and adblock plus, i havent had any issues since adblockplus updated like yesterday or something.

I wanted to look up a live webcam of Shibuya crossing in Tokyo -- without using YouTube -- but all the alternatives I could find are either down, embed from YouTube, or are the crappy older kind: still images. Seems that is usually the same with other cams as well.

All this shit started when people wanted everything online for free, basically selling their soul for things like a free email account, giving these companies vastly disproportionate influence while destroying their competition who didn't rely on scummy practices but weren't free because they needed to turn a profit and pay their bills somehow. Starting to pay for google's et al services won't even unfuck this now because they're already effectively monopolies and will keep the scummy practices, so voting with your wallet isn't even an option. Still, even to this day people rather deal with being anally probed for an gmail account instead of paying a buck or two a month for a privacy respecting service that won't ask you for a phone number and even would let you pay in cash. Don't call it a grave, it's the future you chose.
