What are they?

People go where the content is. I don't want to go to some niche platform that all the folks that got banned from YouTube migrated to. I want there to be a genuine competitor to YouTube, but YouTube is so massive I just don't see how that can happen.

It's the same for wannabe content creators; while there is a lot of competition on YouTube, it's where the most eyes are too. Why would you go to one of the other sites, unless what you're doing is frowned upon by YouTube?
there is literally two issues but nobody can figure them out and solve them its simple

1 lack of content
2 lack of mobile app

all you need is to reupload all of the none far right content music videos cooking etc normie stuff to it and regularly update it then make a mobile app that is functional meaning not crashing every 5 seconds thats all you need but it costs so much to host i think a torrent based site could fix that issue but so far nobody has tried

There is no incentive for most YouTubers to re-upload their content to any much smaller platform though, so how can you create such an incentive?

Sometimes they will pay a decent-sized content creator to jump ship, but that never works in the long term.

im saying reupload them without their consent host it in some shithole like bulgaria that does not honor the DMCA
I just browse the main youtube page and watch all my videos with mpv.
oh i see i might try that once im switched over to linux

The dumbest part about Youtubers is that they still haven't figured out that most of them are not liked by YouTube and that the Algorithm is actually Susan Neal deboosting their stuff and not some little accident made by some clueless software engineer.

YouTubers get abused by YouTube the most and they just keep taking it, even though other platforms would welcome them with open arms.
YouTube is a deviously optimized skinner box designed to keep content creators there while at the same time influencing their opinions.

What do you actually want from a video platform?
If you follow just a few YouTubers you could pester them to mirror their stuff to Odysee or Rumble. There is no excuse Odysee syncs their YT channel, all they have to do is link it once.

Nigger, how do you think genuine competition starts?
Either you are a lazy cunt and stick with YouTube and tolerate getting abused by them or you take a little bit of personal responsibility and start using alt-tech platforms, because that is the only way you make them grow.

Unless you bend to the demands of the google store, not like they would try to sabotage a competitor or anything you can only create apps normies will never install.

Odysee did exactly that they marketed heavy to normies and promote normies on their frontpage, and jounros simply keep pumping out how it's the far-right, ultra-nazi site. Jeremy Kaufman CEO of LBRY is a libertarian Jew. The CEO of Odysee is Pajeet.

They did everything to look normie friendly.
Alphabet can just make journous write an endless stream of hit pieces on them and promote the slanderous articles via Google.

LBRY has a file sharing torrent system built in, but they still rely on severs because people just don't bother to install LBRY and sneed.

There is no amount of banning and complying with the demands of app stores and jounros, because their demands are meant to destroy alt-tech.
D-live shot itself in the foot by complying and becoming censorious.

Yeah its easier with linux but it works with wangblows all you need is python and lua installed and I think mpv on windows installs lua. The scripts you wanna use are play-with-mpv for whatever browser you are using and mpv_sponserblock and add this to your mpv.conf
ytdl-raw-options=sub-format=en,write-srt=,cookies=Downloads/youtube.com_cookies.txt,mark-watched=
script-opts=ytdl_hook-ytdl_path=yt-dlp
if you want subtitles and you want to use yt-dlp

I am not a mobile user, so I can't comment on how good that app is.
You are right, I remember Jeremy talking about the google store fucking with them but he managed to solve it.
I am sure with all the goings on around Odysee there has been some delays, but the creation of a better app was in the works.

With that deliberate 5 second delay for non chrome users using YouTube being a thing. I wouldn't put it past Alphabet to not ban apps of competitors out right, but simply sabotage them.

im not a mobile user but back when i was i tried my hardest to use their app cause i wanted to watch edgy content and no joke it was a hassle to get it past a 10 minute video it was the worst experience using a video site ever their website great but with an app like that even a dedicated alt tech user is turned off also they had to remove pepe videos on the apple version to keep it on the store no joke also if they made the torrenting automatic by viewing kinda like peertube instead of a seperate LBRY app thing it would be very useful

No, I go to alt-tech platforms, see that the content selection is very limited, so I stick with YouTube where I have to make minimal effort to avoid their anti-adblock bullshit, but in return I can watch the content I want to watch.

I subscribe to hundreds of YouTube channels and I can watch all of their videos in one place. A handful of them upload their videos elsewhere. Me leaving comments saying "please mirror your videos to Odysee or Rumble!" isn't gonna do shit.

Even the YouTubers that whine about YouTube can't fully make the move over to another platform and it's obvious why. For example, Louis Rossmann's recent "New York Swings & Misses" video has 301K views and 1,781 comments on YouTube, but 194 views and 1 comment on Rumble.

Huge platforms do sometimes die and get replaced, but there has to be a certain combination of factors for that to happen. There are zero signs of that happening with YouTube.

I have pestered at least one YouTuber into creating an Odysee account, maybe I have contributed to more.
It does work if just keep bringing it up.
The alt-tech sites make it extremely easy for YouTubers to mirror their stuff and it's really low effort for them and has no downside at all.

Anyways this is derailing the thread so fuck YouTube with it's shitty ads and if you have to use it use Invidious

Ironically, for my usage patterns I use Youtube over alt-tech platforms because I don't want to harm alt-tech platforms.

I've grown to essentially treat Youtube's bandwidth as unlimited, so I'd set a script to auto download new uploads from my subscriptions list at 4k60fps and sync it to my phone overnight.
That way, throughout the day I get full-quality videos without ever needing to buffer or burn through my data cap. As a very nice bonus, grabbing the video the moment it's released means I would still have an archive even if the original gets taken down for whatever reason.
Do I particularly care that I'm wasting hundreds of GBs of Jewgle's bandwidth daily, only to realistically use only 1-2% of it? Not really, given how readily they're willing to fuck their users over. But I wouldn't really say the same for alt-tech platforms, especially since when there are platforms more deserving of such treatment.

For those allergic to the command line, a similar effect can be achieved with Tartube.
Restrict downloads to the past day with:
Edit > General download options > Advanced download options
Code:
--dateafter now-1day
--break-on-reject
Then set the download schedule and bandwidth limit to whenever you won't be using your PC.
Since it's essentially a gui wrapper over yt-dlp, it includes sponsorblock, format conversion, subtitles, chapter markers etc. and a gorillion other features that clutter the menu to the point of absurdity.
Pair with something like Syncthing to sync the downloads folder to your desired device.

heads up: YouTube is now starting to block Invidious instances
They are slowly moving towards forcing you to be logged in to watch videos. And trying to disrupt things like Invidious, Ublock, or Youtube-DL. Most of these things are far too difficult for the average internet user to figure out anyways. But they are becoming increasingly obnoxious for literally everyone to use.
