That being said, they could take me completely by surprise and pivot off the goblin uprising to having an incredibly insightful game about the negative impact of usury.
Canonically the Harry Potter universe is on the gold standard. Harry's got a vault full of gold coins and he's the closest thing to wizard nobility you get in those books. There's even a scene where a scamming wizard gives out a bunch of fake gold coins that disappear later on - a clear criticism of fiat money.

Rowling is clearly following in the tradition of L. Frank Baum and her children's books are actually treatises on monetary policy.

I'll give it a fair shake, but I don't have high hopes for anything this high-profile. That being said, they could take me completely by surprise and pivot off the goblin uprising to having an incredibly insightful game about the negative impact of usury.
Basically this. Considering the state of Modern AAA Video Games, I’m not holding my breath on Hogwarts Legacy being good - figure if I keep my expectations low enough, I can only be pleasantly surprised.

That said, watching the usual suspect Ree-ing is tempting me to buy the game entirely out of spite, my own soft spot for Harry Potter aside - I’ll keep saying it, a proper open world Hogwarts game is basically a license to print money with how many people now have grown up on/with the series.

This sort of looks like the Witcher 3 in the Harry Potter universe. Unfortunately, what made the Witcher 3 interesting was the story, while anything that comes out of WB is surely going to be the most generic white-bread garbage to ever grace this world as to not offend anyone.

We'll battle the goblins to save Britain and lower interest rates.

Harry Potter and the Fair Lending Standard.
Can't wait for the articles cancelling the game for literally being about a race war against pseudo-jews

just started playing nine parchments and had more fun than I expect to have with this.

Looks like it's got potential to be a decent action-RPG, not really into the Harry Potter franchise anymore but I'll probably buy it just to support the trans genocide.

What would be the plot of this game? There are no more world ending events or factions and voldemort is dead.
it's set before the Harry Potter series during the late 1800's and the main spur of the plot seems to be the Goblin Rebellions, which were mentioned in the books but never really expanded upon. The most we know is that Goblins essentially want equal status to wizards in magical society, particularly when it comes to the right to own a wand, which goblins cant
I would call my wizard Vladimir Putin or my witch JK Rowling
I'll see if I can make Null in the character creator when it comes out and post screenshots lol

EDIT: Also to give some idea of the sentiment/hype for this game at the time of writing on the official Playstation youtube channel the reveal trailer for Hogwarts Legacy has 28 million views, 772k likes and 14k dislikes. The game hasn't even come out yet and its trailer has more views than God of War 2016, Spiderman, The Last of Us 2, and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

The gameplay trailer that came out a little over a week ago now, meanwhile, has just under 7.5 million views, 285k likes and 5k dislikes. I think its safe to say it's gonna be raking in the money this christmas.

Gee, I wonder how that's going to end up.

Got recommended this retarded article by vice about Hogwarts Legacy

"There are plenty of relatively small details like the depictions of goblins that can sour a reread as an adult. If it’s not that, then it’s the sanctioned slavery of the house elves, or the fact that girls can go into the boys dormitory but Hogwarts castle physically repels the boys if they try the opposite, or the pointed way that Rowling refers to tabloid journalist Rita Skeeter’s big hands, or even the fact that the only canonical gay person also canonically fell in love with wizard Hitler and never loved again, or the fact that in Rowling’s World War II narrative, there is only one Jewish student at Hogwarts—Anthony Goldstein."

A bit OT but literally every single one of these "offensive stereotypes" are just projections from these so called woke fans. Goblins are regularly portrayed as greedy shady creatures in a lot of fantasy worlds, not just in Harry Potter. House elves are supposed to resemble housewives in the 1800s, with SPEW based on "Society for Promoting the Employment of Women". What's wrong with boys not being able to get into the girls dormitory? Is this braindead writer okay with teenage boys going into girls' bedrooms? Don't worry, transwomen are women so nothing should happen to them you bigot! Why do you assume that's the only jewish person at Hogwarts? Anyone could be a jew, not just people with "-stein" in their last name, and maybe Rowling didn't wanna make them all have stereotypical last names because you all complained when she did that with Cho Chang.

It's autistic to get mad about this lmfao, but I'm really done with seeing people project their abysmal opinions onto Rowling when the woman did nothing. They're all such joyless tards that they'll throw away nice childhood memories of enjoying this series with their family for the sake of being the best trans ally. anyway i love harry potter and hopefully this game will be fun and make rowling a lot of money kek

Theres honestly alot of material for a robust combat system. From what we've seen of the broomsticks it looks extremely basic but updates could bring on Quidditch as a solid minigame/feature.

Because WB is a monster company there is no reason why it should suffer due to lack of ideas because there are a host of examples of harry potter games that individually have fun/interesting parts but failed when played as single games.

Anyone could be a jew
Severus Snape, perhaps? Wizard mother, muggle father... hates his own identity, tries to reinvent himself as a "Half-Blood Prince", wants to be the hero and get the girl, takes it out on the girl's son when he can't have her. Classic Jewish temperament and behavioral patterns.

Severus Snape was a thin man with sallow skin, a large, hooked nose and yellow, uneven teeth.

There you have it.

or the pointed way that Rowling refers to tabloid journalist Rita Skeeter’s big hands
This one made me laugh because I don't even know what this "journalist" is saying Rowling is implying with this.

Watching the gameplay trailer, I'm wondering how Hogwarts in the mid-1800s managed to be more diverse than Hogwarts in the 1990s.
I could sort of understand Indians being in Hogwarts due to India being british territory and maybe Indian wizards had to go to Hogwarts, but it still feels like a stretch, especially when the most likely explanation is "Hogwartz was always diverse you biggot, Hermione was black and Ron was a muslim-nonbinary pansexual and Harry a white supremacist"

Stumbled on this tweet that I got a kick out of. It's a cutoff reupload of a tiktok, so I'm saving the tweet and keeping a local archive of this version. If someone wants to grab the original from tiktok and local archive it here for thoroughness' sake go ahead. Original tiktok is from i_am_a_toad. Check the replies to the tweet to farm salt.

There's a lot of dead fish tier attempts at humor in here but my favorite part has to be his zero effort to look even remotely like a woman. Not even a token attempt at the nasally tranny voice. The shitty hair and the huge Avengers Tranny flag (or whatever that is, troons must consoom etc) in the background is all you get. Really digging the permanent AGP/autism smirk too. Dude might as well audition to be a Dreamworks character.

It's really weird that this guy has such shallow criticism of the game. It's all 'problematic' and 'muh slavery.' It's the 1800s English fantasy wizard magic game, you can be turned into a slug by any random passerby if it's accurate to the books or movies, of course they have slaves. If they didn't have slaves they'd just have enchanted shit that did all the work for them, and that would just get boring when everything is automated by characterless floating objects. At least house elves can be empathized with and possess some characterization on account of being able to display emotion. You won't catch me remembering Floating Soup Spoon #382.

Strange too that he references the old tiki torch rally. You know, the one that happened in 2017? 5 years ago? I forgot that even happened until he brought it up. Is this all they've got? Old events no sane people remember nor give a shit about? I do appreciate that the video cut off before he hit us with a slam dunk of pure unfiltered facts and logic though. Don't know if I could've survived a lecture about enduring a minor inconvenience to stop trannies from roping because JKR continues to exist.

Anyway. Ignoring the still seething troons, I'm fairly neutral on the game. It looks like it'll be a standard western open world which is about the most middling thing that can be developed these days. I'm expecting it to be received very well financially though. This is one of those games that will be a nice surprise if it turns out great but otherwise I'm not expecting much.

Laughing at the troon response is already a good start for the game. Even if it sucks when it releases at least it gives us that.

barring the whole SJW spin...

game looks sweet AF. I feel like theyre the ones with problems if they suddenly think 'Goblins like money' = 'Jews' and suddenly 'Wizards' = aryan white race.

TBH it seems like a pretty solid concept regarding Harry Potter that would make sense within canon while also expanding on the fact the central banks are controlled by one race and yet everyone uses it. Definitely power struggle happened and the fact SJWs take this to mean JEWS AND WHITE PEOPLE is equally hilarious.

"Do you remember that slavery exists in the world of Harry Potter? Do you remember that slavery wasn't solved in the story of Harry Potter? That's problematic... Because."
