Hollow Knight - Dark Souls Metroidvania... with bugs!

On April 1, 2024, Griffin posted again on Twitter/X that the Microsoft Store page is now live. This was initially taken as a prank, but Xbox product marketing manager Tao Sila also posted that it “isn’t an April Fools joke. The [Hollow Knight Silksong] Wishlist page really is up on Xbox”. This wouldn’t be significant on its own, but it has an ESRB rating of 10+. These ratings generally appear once the game enters the final stages of development. In addition, the Silksong Australia rating from the country’s government classification board has also published its rating of the game as PG (Parental Guidance) for “mild violence”.
Wtf we're back??? :stress:

>Pizza Tower released and got an update in less then 2 year
>Fnf fags finally got an update to their game after 3 years
>The only thing Silksong fags have gotten is a fucking ESRB rating

HK is a potential exemplar of Metroidvania with some extremely annoying bosses and platforming tacked on that nearly if not completely ruin the game.

For instance you go through hours and hours of a game of light platforming with some very brief sections of moderate difficulty then all of a sudden you're in buzzsaw city with entire extremely long and tedious levels navigated through strings of frame perfect special moves executed with lightening reflexes.

It's not even lightning reflexes, most of the time you pretty much can see what you need to do and just need to not fuck up the input. Those segments are basically a worse version of a QTE, but they are considered good because they give the illusion of choice

There are several places especially in buzzsaw city where you can't see where you're going until you start platforming and only have a split second to react or you have to muscle memorize it. I just barely made it through. Only to find out what I just went through wasn't the elite secret platforming challenge I heard about and was the 'easy' part.

Fuck this. I dunno, I guess my reflexes just aren't as good as other people's but I have better things to do with my life.

Nah it's mostly memorization with extra out of bounds shit you need to remember in that 4 minute of "do it perfectly or start all over". Like I said, it's just a QTE.

Is keyboard just a fundamentally bad input method for platformers or are bosses in this game hard? I found Elden Ring (also controlled with keyboard) perfectly playable and enjoyable to complete, but gave up on Hollow Knight as soon as I learned getting some endings required boss rushes and 0-hit map traversal. Positioning and timing has to be - if not perfect, then close enough to win in a war of attrition - and I only have two dimensions to position myself in.

For additional reference, I've completed Axiom Verge on normal, Bloodstained on normal (and thought it was a bit too easy), and AM2R on... I don't remember, whatever the default setting was. Also all on keyboard.

The keyboard generally is much worse for this game. It'll make some of the bosses much more difficult. Ironically though there are some exceptions where its actually better than a joystick. For example in the Trial of Fools its extremely easy to cyclone slash your way into a spike pit when you meant to greatslash because the control scheme is so awkward so discrete keys can help with this. But you might as well just use the dpad.

I have just a couple things to check off but I am seriously considering just being done with this game lol. 95% of it is piss easy but then you just get to the end stuff and the difficulty curve suddenly rockets into the stratosphere and its so monstrously sadistic its not worth it anymore. Admittedly some people seem to have a much easier time of it than I do. I guess it may be because I'm no jumpy teenager anymore and my reflexes which were never stellar to begin with aren't what they used to be. Whats a mild exertion to some is an impossible wall when your reaction time is a few milliseconds longer.

Well I've learned my lesson. No more finger olympic titles. I guess I'll just watch Silksong on youtube and stick to the hard games for out of shape people like Battle Brothers or Xenonauts.

Finally beat Radiance and did everything in the game thats reasonable easy, even gave all the optional flowers except for the Godseeker. All thats left is the Godhome crap oh and Nightmare Grimm and the higher level Zotes. So I guess thats it for me. Maybe I might come back for a casual playthrough if I'm bored but hanging up the nail for serious play. It took me multiple days on and off just to beat normal Radiance. I can't imagine the pain and tedium doing this song and dance for uncounted hours attemping hitless rushes through dozens of supercharged versions of these bosses. I have RL shit I need to get back to and its kind of hard to fit productive tasks in between nursing your sore thumb through consecutive battles.

Because it's for autists. Hollow Knight is an extremely simple and precisely controlling game mechanically (to the point of detriment, honestly) and that makes it very easy to pick up for new speedrunners. Youtube and leaderboards are jammed with very young no-names competing for times

Silksong is dead. There is no meaningful way they will ever live up to hype unless they learned from the shoddy DLC. This ship sailed years ago. Heres the most info you will ever get from the gameplay itself from 2019.
Six fucking years almost.

Not a good sign when you have to reassure your fans that it's real and it's happening.
This is gay. They don't have to (((reassure))) anyone. If someone is whining they are owed Silksong because they donated to the kickstarter with Hornet mode and Zote mode, Team Cherry should refund the faggots and get them to shut the fuck up, the whole kickstarter was 50k fake dollars, just look between the sofa cushions. Hollow Knight is not an announced book series where you're owed the rest of the story if you bought into the beginning (inb4 lmao buying new books in 2025), it's a standalone videogame.

Here's a discord post from Leth, PR for Team Cherry, I wanna to showcase that I found in this video.

People are starting to get mad at how silent Team Cherry have been all this time and they still not figured out they should say something. Are they autistic or to scared to show anything?
