Literally the only reason people have for being against homeschooling for the most part is "homeschooled kids are weird".
That's true in some cases, where the families of homeschool students have the necessary skills, appropriate resources, and hours of open time available every day to be able to add "teacher" to the already challenging list of roles they have to play for their children. Many families are completely unable to do that, though, and even most of those households who technically  could really, really shouldn't, for one reason or another.

Public schools might suck in most parts of the US, but pulling your kids is a decision that requires you to carefully weigh the risks and benefits, and it's usually only the right one in extreme situations. Unless you have a family with highly educated parents who have the ability to either balance the workload or have one of them stay at home, then it's really better to avoid it unless the local schools are either heavily affected by gang violence, or the child is being bullied so severely that it's a truly dangerous situation.

I'm sure this is true, but I just think it sucks that my mom had all the time and money to properly school me and sign me up for sports, but she didn't.
What's with the weird autistic obsession with sports in school? They're fine, but what profound affect do you believe they have on a person that you missed out on?

Honestly I found that as a kid I never had as much of an appreciation for competition that I do as an adult, so a lot of the time I spent in sports was spent fucking around and never truly applying myself. I'm sure that's the case for probably the majority of kids who play sports in school. It's nice being on a team and having something to do, but it's really not that big a deal.

Also loads of people have mothers who are a little weird, the fact your mom was even there and feeding you instead of being off all day getting high or bringing around weird men already puts her above lots of the mothers featured on this website. You've got greener grass syndrome and should chill out.

Maybe I should chill out. I just have a major sense of missing out. I just don't know how I can get those life experiences that other kids did. I mean, I'm sure there's a way, but it might take a ton of effort. If there's a way to play sports and learn as an adult, then I think you're right; I'm just being a whiny bitch. If not, then how do I turn it around?

Edit: I just looked up what greener grass syndrome is, and this describes me to a tee. Maybe that's what's wrong with me.

Ok, sorry for the double post, but I decided I'm going to improve my life. I'm going to get a job, I'm going to start doing lessons on Khan Academy to catch up on learning, I'm going to look into recreational sports leagues to play in, and I'm also going to keep attending community college.

Come to think of it, I didn't even get into the other stuff I missed out on, like having a girlfriend and other childhood experiences. I think I am either autistic or unschooling made me maladjusted socially. I don't think I have a chance to right these wrongs. I will always be a worthless retard. There's no point in doing anything.

A lot of kids who attended public school didn't have that either. Media and people who peaked when they were 16 make it seem like high school is the greatest time of your life when that's not the case for probably 75% of people. I don't regret not being more active in extra curriculars. I don't reminisce about high school in general. To be fair, I am also an schizo autistic retard so take that with a grain of salt.

Homeschooling and unschooling are different things, though. A lot of homeschooled kids also get socialization from their family, neighbors, kids at the park, sports and activities not organized by schools, and a lot also use small groups. Many utilize tutors and online high school programs.

Not everyone can or should homeschool. But unschooling isn't even that. With so many online programs and how much computers are utilized for everything it's a lot easier than it used to be too.

You wouldn't have been draft picked even if you did go to public school btw.

truth bombs I should change the thread title to Unschooling Recovery Thread. homeschooling is good Unschooling is bad. Mom should have let me play sports even some top college football players were homeschooled.

Oh I m gonna regret doing this

@hothead how old are you?

People think I m an autistic weirdo because I was sent to a private school ran by a fucking cult, where I was basically emotionally abused, or some fucking faggot thing like that.

What happens in school is basically socialization you learn how to read the room and talk to people.

You re not really fucked up if you basically get out of your own way and understand what social ques are and shit.

Also you need to not be on the internet bad socialization and brain rot internet will turn you into chris chan

I'm 20, and I hope I can find a way to socialize, like working a job, but I don't have a driver's license or a car.

You know, I'm just thinking about how rare being unschooled is. Being homeschooled is already a small number of people, but being unschooled is a very small portion of people, usually only like celebrities and hippies who are unschooled, so it's extremely rare, but I was the unlucky bastard who was unschooled. Why couldn't some random retard get my mom some retard who puts no effort into school? Why did it have to be me? Why couldn't' my mom let me play sports and teach me? Now I feel like I'm truly screwed: no driver's license, no job, no education, no experience, no future.

You two should battle
